Quantitative analysis of precious metals in automotive shredder residue/combustion residue via EDX fluorescence spectrometry

The recovery of precious metals from automotive shredder residue (ASR) dust/combustion residue is an option that is not usually considered due to the lack of available information. Therefore, before any disposal or recovery application can be considered, it is necessary to determine the significance of the levels and distribution of precious metal in ASR dust/ASR combustion residue. In the present study, quantitative analysis of precious metals (Pt, Pd, Au, Ag and Cu) in the ASR residue samples was performed using energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) fluorescence spectrometer. With the fundamental parameter (FP) method, the X-ray intensity is obtained and the quantitative analysis is performed using theoretical calculation. This method is very effective for quantitative analysis of unknown samples without standard samples. Further, in order to analyse the precious metal distribution within the ASR combustion residues, the microstructural characterisation and elemental mapping were also carried out with the aid of field emission scanning election microscopy combined with electron dispersive spectroscopy (FE-SEM EDS). Significant amount of Pt, Pd, Au, Ag and Cu element concentrations in the ASR residue were identified. Total precious (Pt, Pd, Au, Ag and Cu) metals obtainable values are representing about 12.23 wt% from its initial ASR dust/combustion residues. Considering their relevant concentrations, these metals should be properly recovered for recycling purposes before to dispose or landfill.

Two acridones and two coumarins from the roots of Paramignya trimera

Two acridones, paratrimerins C (1) and D (2), and two coumarins, paratrimerins E (3) and F (4), were isolated from the CHCl₃ and EtOAc extracts of Paramignya trimera (Rutaceae), together with twelve known compounds (5–16). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data. All isolated compounds possessed significant α-glucosidase inhibitory activity in a concentration-dependent manner, and showed more potent inhibitory activity, with IC₅₀ values ranging from 14.6 to 112.2 μM, than the positive control acarbose (IC₅₀, 214.5 μM). The biosynthesis of the isolated coumarins and acridones was proposed.     

Existence and Exponential Decay of Solutions for a Wave Equation with Integral Nonlocal Boundary Conditions of Memory Type

In this paper, we consider a wave equation with integral nonlocal boundary conditions of memory type. First, we establish two local existence theorems by using Faedo–Galerkin method and standard arguments of density. Next, we give a su?cient condition to guarantee the global existence and exponential decay of weak solutions. Finally, we present numerical results.     

Zymography for Picogram Detection of Lipase and Esterase Activities

Lipases and esterases are important catalysts with wide varieties of industrial applications. Although many methods have been established for detecting their activities, a simple and sensitive approach for picogram detection of lipolytic enzyme quantity is still highly desirable. Here we report a lipase detection assay which is 1000-fold more sensitive than previously reported methods. Our assay enables the detection of as low as 5 pg and 180 pg of lipolytic activity by direct spotting and zymography, respectively. Furthermore, we demonstrated that the detection sensitivity was adjustable by varying the buffering capacity, which allows for screening of both high and low abundance lipolytic enzymes. Coupled with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, our method provides a useful tool for sensitive detection and identification of lipolytic enzymes.     

Self-Adjoint Extensions of Discrete Magnetic Schrödinger Operators

Using the concept of an intrinsic metric on a locally finite weighted graph, we give sufficient conditions for the magnetic Schrödinger operator to be essentially self-adjoint. The present paper is an extension of some recent results proven in the context of graphs of bounded degree.     

LIOUVILLE RESULTS FOR STABLE SOLUTIONS OF QUASILINEAR EQUATIONS WITH WEIGHTS

This paper is devoted to the quasilinear equation ■where p 2,Ω is a(bounded or unbounded) domain of R~N,w_1,w_2 are nonnegative continuous functions and f is an increasing function. We establish a Liouville type theorem for nontrivial stable solutions of the equation under some mild assumptions on Ω,w_1, w_2 and f, which extends and unifies several results on this topic.
