Electrical conductivity,impedance, and percolation behavior of carbon nanofiber and carbon nanotube containing gellan gum hydrogels

The electrical impedance behavior of gellan gum (GG), GG–carbon nanotube, and GG–carbon nanofiber hydrogel composites is reported. It is demonstrated that the impedance behavior of these gels can be modeled using a Warburg element in series with a resistor. Sonolysis (required to disperse the carbon fillers) does not affect GG hydrogel electrical conductivity (1.2 ± 0.1 mS/cm), but has a detrimental effect on the gel's mechanical characteristics. It was found that the electrical conductivity (evaluated using impedance analysis) increases with increasing volume fraction of the carbon fillers and decreasing water content. For example, carbon nanotube containing hydrogels exhibited a six‐ to sevenfold increase in electrical conductivity (to 7 ± 2 mS/cm) at water content of 82%. It is demonstrated that at water content of 95 ± 2% the electrical behavior of multiwalled nanotube containing hydrogels transitions (percolates) from transport dominated by ions (owing to GG) to transport dominated by electrons (owing to the carbon nanotube network). © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. On Submanifolds with 2-Type Pseudo-Hyperbolic Gauss Map in Pseudo-Hyperbolic Space

In this paper, we study pseudo-Riemannian submanifolds of a pseudo-hyperbolic space \(\mathbb H^{m-1}_s (-1) \subset \mathbb E^m_{s+1}\) with 2-type pseudo-hyperbolic Gauss map. We give a characterization of proper pseudo-Riemannian hypersurfaces in \(\mathbb H^{n+1}_s (-1) \subset \mathbb E^{n+2}_{s+1}\) with non-zero constant mean curvature and 2-type pseudo-hyperbolic Gauss map. For \(n=2\), we prove classification theorems. In addition, we show that the hyperbolic Veronese surface is the only maximal surface fully lying in \(\mathbb H^4_2 (-1) \subset \mathbb H^{m-1}_2 (-1)\) with 2-type pseudo-hyperbolic Gauss map. Moreover, we prove that a flat totally umbilical pseudo-Riemannian hypersurface \(M^n_t\) of the pseudo-hyperbolic space \(\mathbb {H}^{n+1}_t(-1) \subset \mathbb E^{n+2}_{t+1}\) has biharmonic pseudo-hyperbolic Gauss map.     

Novel silver(I)N-heterocyclic carbene complexes bearing 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl group: Synthesis,characterization, and enzyme inhibition properties

Herein, novel silver-based N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes bearing 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl group were synthesized. Novel Ag(I)NHC complexes were synthesized from the 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl-substituted benzimidazolium salts and silver oxide via in situ deprotonation method. The successful formation of all Ag(I)NHC complexes was proved by using ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, FTIR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis techniques. In addition, their inhibitory effects have been investigated of these substances on acetylcholinesterase (AChE), α-glycosidase (α-Gly), human carbonic anhydrase I (hCA I), and human carbonic anhydrase II (hCA II) enzymes. It has been seen that all compounds have a better ability to inhibit compared with existing tried inhibitors. Among these, the best inhibitor against AChE enzyme is 1g (K_i : 9.54 ± 0.98 μM and IC₅₀ : 17.40), and against α-Gly, 1c showed the highest effect (K_i 3.09 ± 0.36 μM and IC₅₀ 7.91). The best inhibitor against hCA I and hCA II enzymes are 1c and 1g compounds. For hCA I and hCA II, IC₅₀ values were calculated as 17.85 and 9.06 μM and K_i values were measured as 5.45 ± 2.02 and 8.99 ± 2.02 μM, respectively.

Synthesis and characterization of nano Ag end capped L-cysteine bridged diblock copolymer

The target of the present investigation is synthesis and characterization of an amphiphilic diblock copolymer with antibacterial property. Ring opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone (CL) and tetrahydrofuran (THF) was carried out under inert atmosphere by using L-cysteine as a bridging agent in the presence of stannous octoate (SO) as a catalyst. The nano silver end capped diblock copolymer was synthesized by in situ method. Thus obtained nano silver end capped L-cysteine bridged diblock copolymer was characterized by various analytical methods like Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, circular dichroism (CD), fluorescence spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and zeta potential. The antimicrobial property of the nano silver end capped diblock copolymer against e-coli was tested.     

Development of new methods for the synthesis of 2,3-bis(nitroxymethyl)-2,3-dinitrobutane-1,4-diol dinitrate and its intermediates

Known methods for the synthesis of 2,3-bis(nitroxymethyl)-2,3-dinitrobutane-1,4-diol dinitrate and its intermediates were investigated. New procedures were developed for the preparation of these compounds. 2,3-Bis(nitroxymethyl)-2,3-dinitrobutane-1,4-diol dinitrate was studied by X-ray diffraction.

     

Enantioselective Palladium(0)‐Catalyzed Nazarov‐Type Cyclization

A Pd⁰‐catalyzed asymmetric Nazarov‐type cyclization is described. The optimized ligand for the reaction incorporates a weakly coordinating pyridine ring into a TADDOL‐derived phosphoramidite (TADDOL=α,α,α,α‐tetraaryl‐1,3‐dioxolane‐4,5‐dimethanol). The reaction leads to the formation of cyclopentenones as single diastereoisomers that incorporate two contiguous asymmetric centers, one tertiary and one an all‐carbon‐atom quaternary stereocenter, in high yield and optical purity. It is noteworthy that the reaction does not require that substrates should be activated by aryl substituents.
