An integral equation formulation for buoyancy-driven convection problems is developed and illustrated. Buoyancy-driven convection in a bounded cylindrical geometry with a free surface is studied for a range of aspect ratios and Nusselt numbers. The critical Rayleigh number, the nature of the cellular motion, and the heat transfer enhancement are computed using linear theory. Green's functions are used to convert the linear problem into linear Fredholm integral equations. Theorems are proved which establish the properties of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the linear integral operator which appears in these equations.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: The peri-adolescent period is a crucial developmental moment of transition from childhood to emergent adulthood. The present report analyses the differences in Power Spectrum (PS) of the Electroencephalogram (EEG) between late childhood (24 children between 8 and 13 years old) and young adulthood (24 young adults between 18 and 23 years old). RESULTS: The narrow band analysis of the Electroencephalogram was computed in the frequency range of 0--20 Hz. The analysis of mean and variance suggested that six frequency ranges presented a different rate of maturation at these ages, namely: low delta, delta-theta, low alpha, high alpha, low beta and high beta. For most of these bands the maturation seems to occur later in anterior sites than posterior sites. Correlational analysis showed a lower pattern of correlation between different frequencies in children than in young adults, suggesting a certain asynchrony in the maturation of different rhythms. The topographical analysis revealed similar topographies of the different rhythms in children and young adults. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) demonstrated the same internal structure for the Electroencephalogram of both age groups. Principal Component Analysis allowed to separate four subcomponents in the alpha range. All these subcomponents peaked at a lower frequency in children than in young adults. CONCLUSIONS: The present approaches complement and solve some of the incertitudes when the classical brain broad rhythm analysis is applied. Children have a higher absolute power than young adults for frequency ranges between 0-20 Hz, the correlation of Power Spectrum (PS) with age and the variance age comparison showed that there are six ranges of frequencies that can distinguish the level of EEG maturation in children and adults. The establishment of maturational order of different frequencies and its possible maturational interdependence would require a complete series including all the different ages.  相似文献

Pectin extracted via hydrodynamic cavitation in water only from waste lemon peel and further isolated via freeze drying displays significant antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, a Gram positive pathogen which easily contaminates food. The antibacterial effect of the new IntegroPectin is largely superior to that of commercial citrus pectin, opening the way to advanced applications of a new bioproduct now obtainable in large amounts and at low cost from citrus juice industry's waste.  相似文献

Two-photon polymerization has emerged as a powerful tool to design complex three-dimensional microstructures for applications ranging from biology to nanophotonics. To broaden the application spectrum of such microstructures, different materials have been incorporated to the polymers, aiming at specific applications. In this paper we report the fabrication of microstructures containing rhodamine 610, which display strong fluorescence upon one- and two-photon excitation. The latter increases light-penetration depth and spatial selectivity of luminescence. We also demonstrate that by using silica submicrometric wires we were able to select individual microstructures to be excited, which could be explored for designing microstructure-based optical circuits.  相似文献

In this work, the ternary complex formation among copper(II), 6-methylpicolinic acid (H6Mepic) as primary ligand, and the amino acids aspartic acid (H2Asp), glutamic acid (H2Glu) and histidine (HHis) as secondary ligands, were studied in aqueous solution at 25 °C using 1.0 mol·dm?3 KNO3 as the ionic medium. Analysis of the potentiometric data using the least squares computational program LETAGROP indicates formation of the species [Cu(6Mepic)]+, Cu(6Mepic)(OH), [Cu(6Mepic)(OH)2]?, Cu(6Mepic)2 and [Cu(6Mepic)3]? in the binary Cu(II)–H6Mepic system. In the ternary Cu(II)–H6Mepic–H2Asp system the complexes [Cu(6Mepic)(H2Asp)]+, Cu(6Mepic)(HAsp), [Cu(6Mepic)(Asp)]? and [Cu(6Mepic)(Asp)(OH)]2? were observed. In the case of the Cu(II)–H6Mepic–H2Glu system the complexes Cu(6Mepic)(HGlu), [Cu(6Mepic)(Glu)]?, [Cu(6Mepic)(Glu)(OH)]2? and [Cu(6Mepic)(glu)(OH)2]3? were detected. Finally, in the Cu(II)–H6Mepic–HHis system the complexes [Cu(6Mepic)(HHis)]+, Cu(6Mepic)(His) and [Cu(6Mepic)(His)(OH)]? were observed. The species distribution diagrams as a function of pH are briefly discussed.  相似文献

The widespread occurrence of antibiotics as contaminants in the aquatic environment has increased attention in the last years. The concern over the release of antibiotics into the environment is related primarily to the potential for the development of antimicrobial resistance among microorganisms. This article presents an overview of analytical methodologies for the determination of quinolone (Qs) and fluoroquinolone (FQs), macrolide (MLs), tetracycline (TCs), sulfonamide (SAs) antibiotics and trimethoprim (TMP) in different environmental waters. The analysis of these antibiotics has usually been carried out by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled to mass spectrometry (MS) or tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) and to a lesser extent by ultraviolet (UV) or fluorescence detection (FD). A very important step before LC analysis is sample preparation and extraction leading to elimination of interferences and prevention of matrix effect and preconcentration of target analytes.  相似文献

4′‐Nonafluorobutylstyrene (3) was synthesized and polymerized by conventional and controlled radical polymerization (iodine transfer polymerization (ITP)). Such an aromatic fluoromonomer was prepared from Ullmann coupling between 1‐iodoperfluorobutane and 4‐bromoacetophenone followed by a reduction and a dehydration in 50% overall yield. Two radical polymerizations of (3) were initiated by AIBN either under conventional or controlled conditions, with 1‐iodoperfluorohexane in 84% monomer conversion and in 50% yield. ITP of (3) featured a fast monomer conversion and a linear evolution of the ln([M]0/[M]) versus time. The kinetics of radical homopolymerization of (3) enabled one to assess its square of the propagation rate to the termination rate (kp2/kt) in ITP conditions (36.2·10?2 l·mol?2·sec?2 at 80 °C) from the Tobolsky's kinetic law. Polydispersity index (?) of the fluoropolymer achieved by conventional polymerization was 1.30 while it worthed 1.15 when synthesized by ITP. Thermal stabilities of these oligomers were satisfactory (10% weight loss under air occurred from 305 °C) whereas the melting point was 47 °C. Contact angles and surface energies assessed from spin‐coated poly(3) films obtained by conventional (hysteresis = 18°, surface energy 18 mN.m?1) and ITP (hysteresis = 47°, surface energy 15 mN.m?1) evidenced ? values' influence onto surface properties of the synthesized polymers. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A simple and fast liquid chromatographic method coupled with fluorescence detection (LC‐FD) is reported, for the first time, for the simultaneous quantification of norfloxacin (NOR), ciprofloxacin (CIP) and lomefloxacin (LOM) in human plasma, using levofloxacin as internal standard (IS). Sample preparation consists of a single‐step precipitation of plasma proteins followed by vortex‐mixing and centrifugation. Chromatographic separation was achieved within 7 min on a reversed‐phase C18 column with a mobile phase consisting of 0.1% aqueous formic acid (pH = 3.0, triethylamine)–methanol (82:18, v/v) pumped isocratically at 1.2 mL/min. The detector was set at excitation/emission wavelengths of 278/450 nm. Calibration curves were linear (r2 ≥ 0.994) in the range of 0.02–5.0 µg/mL, and the limit of quantification was established at 0.02 µg/mL for all analytes (NOR, CIP and LOM). The overall precision did not exceed 8.19% and accuracy was within ±10.91%. NOR, CIP and LOM were extracted from human plasma with an overall mean recovery ranged from 90.1 to 111.5%. No interferences were observed at the retention times of the analytes and IS. This novel LC‐FD method enables the reliable determination of NOR, CIP and LOM in a single chromatographic run, which may be suitable to support human pharmacokinetic‐based studies with those antimicrobial agents. Ochratoxin A (OTA) is one of the most studied mycotoxins, with great public health and agroeconomic significance. The exposure of both humans and animals to this fungal toxin has been associated to food matrices since its discovery. However, according to recent reports, OTA may also represent a potential airborne hazard, in water-damaged buildings, or occupational contamination, in workplaces with high mould exposure, such as agricultural, farm and alimentary industries. Further, in addition to the conventional studied food matrices, worldwide consumed, there are increasing reports on different and less obvious sources of alimentary exposure. These include traditional and home-made food products, highly consumed by specific groups of populations that thus might be at risk. This paper aims to spotlight the current knowledge on these non-conventional OTA exposure sources.  相似文献
