Despite over a century of modern surfactant science, the kinetic pathways of morphological transitions in micellar systems are still not well understood. This is mainly as a result of the lack of sufficiently fast methods that can capture the structural changes of such transitions. Herein, a simple surfactant system consisting of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) in aqueous NaCl solutions is investigated. Combining synchrotron radiation small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) with fast stopped‐flow mixing schemes allows monitoring the process where polymer‐like micelles are formed from globular micelles when the salt concentration is suddenly increased. The results show that “worm‐like” micelles are formed by fusion of globular micelles and short cylinders in a fashion that bears similarities to a step‐like polymerization process.  相似文献

We describe a novel single atom detector that uses the high electric field surrounding a charged single-walled carbon nanotube to attract and subsequently field-ionize neutral atoms. A theoretical study of the field-ionization tunneling rates for atomic trajectories in the attractive potential near a nanowire shows that a broadly applicable, high spatial resolution, low-power, neutral-atom detector with nearly 100% efficiency is realizable with present-day technology. Calculations also show that the system can provide the first opportunity to study quantized conductance phenomena when detecting cold neutral atoms with mean velocities less than 15 m/s.  相似文献

The interactions between Cd(2+) and the C-terminal region of phytochelatin (PC) synthase using recombinant wild-type and mutant PC synthase were studied. We show that site-directed mutagenesis of Cys residues at C(358)C(359)XXXC(363)XXC(366) motif decreases the number of Cd(2+) and other heavy metal ions interacting with the enzyme, and that the motif binds the metals discriminatingly. The optimum binding ratio of PC synthase to Cd(2+) was also determined. The findings indicate that Cys exists as a free SH residue and that it is involved in the regulation of PC enzyme activity by transferring the metals into closer proximity with the catalytic domain. These results are important in understanding heavy metal detoxification mechanisms in higher plants, a step towards phytoremediated-applications.  相似文献

The graphs whose spanning unicyclic subgraphs partition into exactly two isomorphism classes are characterized.This work is a continuation of [6] where graphs with one isomorphism class of spanning unicyclic graphs are characterized. The analogous question for spanning trees was posed in [10] and graphs with one isomorphism class of spanning trees were characterized in [2], [3], [4], [7], [11] while graphs with two isomorphism classes of spanning trees were characterized in [4], [5]. In this study, we present the detection of tau protein, at room temperature, using a multi-spot localised surface plasmon resonance (LSPR)-based immunochip. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of an immunochip for tau protein. The detection method includes fabrication of a gold-capped nanoparticle LSPR chip, formation and functionalisation of a self-assembled monolayer (SAM), immobilisation of a suitable linker, effective blocking of non-specific adsorption, immobilisation of a monoclonal anti-tau antibody (tau-mAb), and finally, the optimum conditions for the immuno-reaction between tau-mAb and the antigen were determined. The method has a high performance, enables detection of tau at 10pg/mL, lower than the cut-off value of 195pg/mL (for AD) for tau protein in cerebral spinal fluid (CSF). Further, we demonstrated selectivity of the technique by showing that the introduction of bovine serum albumin (BSA), perhaps the most abundant protein component in serum and CSF, does not interfere with the detection of tau. This method also offers a potential platform for studying tau interactions with other proteins and/or potential drug candidates and could also be easily adapted for detecting phosphorylated tau and other AD biomarkers.  相似文献

The dynamic response of a raft-exhibiting giant liposome to external stimuli, such as the addition of Triton X-100 or osmotic stress, was studied. We observed that daughter vesicles are generated inside of the liposome through endocytic budding. It was found that the budding to generate daughter vesicles is classified into two different routes, simple budding through the invagination of a whole raft and budding from the boundary of a raft accompanied by waving motion. Smaller rafts show a preference for simple budding, whereas large rafts mainly adopt the other process. We discuss the mechanism of this difference in terms of the kinetic pathway of internalization by considering the line energy and bending energy of the membrane.  相似文献

The influence of high pressures of carbon monoxide (CO) on the stability of a Au/Ni(111) surface alloy has been studied by high-pressure scanning tunneling microscopy. We show that CO induces a phase separation of the surface alloy at high pressures, and by means of time-lapsed STM movies we find that Ni atoms are removed from the surface layer during the process. Density functional theory calculations reveal the thermodynamic driving force for the phase separation to be the Au-induced compression of the CO overlayer with a resulting CO-CO repulsion. Furthermore, the atomistic mechanism of the process is shown to be kink-site carbonyl formation and evaporation which is found to be enhanced by the presence of Au.  相似文献

We present the experimental discovery of compound structures comprising solitons and vortex rings in Bose-Einstein condensates. We examine both their creation via soliton-vortex collisions and their subsequent development, which is largely governed by the dynamics of interacting vortex rings. A theoretical model in three-dimensional cylindrical symmetry is also presented.  相似文献
