Reactions of quinones with some amino alcohols,thiols and a UV-Vis study

Abstract

In the present study, the reactions of 2,3-dichloro-1,4-naphthoquinone (DCNQ) with amino-1,2-propanediol and some thiols were investigated. Novel N-, N,S-, and S,O- substituted derivatives were obtained and the structures of all compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods (FT-IR, ¹H NMR, ¹³ Baker, R. A.; Tatum, J. H.; Nemec, S. The absorption behaviors of novel compounds were also investigated with UV-Vis spectroscopy in different solvents, such as ethanol, tetrahydrofuran and chloroform.     

Dual stimuli‐responsive polyamines derived from modified N‐vinylpyrrolidones through CuAAC click chemistry

The synthesis via copper(I)‐catalyzed azide alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) of three new monomer derivatives of N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (VP) carrying cyclic pyrrolidine, piperidine, and piperazine groups and the corresponding copolymers with unmodified VP is shown. The systems bearing pyrrolidine and piperidine displayed both thermo‐ and pH‐response, which has not been reported previously for a polymer with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) backbone. A broad modulation of the LCST with the copolymer composition and pH was observed in a temperature range 0–100 °C. Polymeric Gene Carriers Bearing Pendant β‐Cyclodextrin: The Relevance of Glycoside Permethylation on the “In Vitro” Cell Response

The incorporation of cyclodextrins (CDs) to nonviral cationic polymer vectors is very attractive due to recent studies that report a clear improvement of their cytocompatibility and transfection efficiency. However, a systematic study on the influence of the CD derivatization is still lacking. In this work, the relevance of β‐CD permethylation has been addressed by preparing and evaluating two series of copolymers of the cationic N‐ethyl pyrrolidine methacrylamide (EPA) and styrenic units bearing pendant hydroxylated and permethylated β‐CDs (HCDSt and MeCDSt, respectively). For both cell lines, CDs permethylation shows a strong influence on plasmid DNA complexation, “in vitro” cytocompatibility and transfection efficiency of the resulting copolymers over two murine cell lines. While the incorporation of the hydroxylated CD moiety increased the cytotoxicity of the copolymers in comparison with their homopolycationic counterpart, the permethylated copolymers have shown full cytocompatibility as well as superior transfection efficiency than the controls. This behavior has been related to the different chemical nature of both units and tentatively to a different distribution of units along the polymeric chains. Cellular internalization analysis with fluorescent copo­lymers supports this behavior.

     

The role of the dynamic pressure in stationary heat conduction of a rarefied polyatomic gas

The effect of the dynamic pressure (non-equilibrium pressure) on stationary heat conduction in a rarefied polyatomic gas at rest is elucidated by the theory of extended thermodynamics. It is shown that this effect is observable in a non-polytropic gas. Numerical studies are presented for a para-hydrogen gas as a typical example.     

Development of an Enzyme Immunoassay for the Determination of the Herbicide Metsulfuron-Methyl Based on Chicken Egg Yolk Antibodies

Abstract

The development of an indirect competitive enzyme immunoassay for the sulfonylurea herbicide metsulfuron-methyl (MSM) is described. In contrast to traditional antibody generation in mammals, this extremely sensitive method is based on chicken egg yolk antibodies (IgY). They were raised in laying hens using an MSM-derivative-BSA hapten as immunogen. With a 1:10000 dilution of the antibody solution and a coating antigen (MSM-derivative-KLH) concentration of 10 μg L^?1 the IC₅₀ value achieved for the target analyte was 0.4 μg L^?1. The least detectable dose was established at 13 ng L^?1. Cross-reactivity was tested with 5 structurally related compounds, where only sulfometuron showed a significant binding. The ELISA was tested with spiked tap and surface water samples. This paper, for the first time, demonstrates the production of high-affinity IgY antibodies for a herbicide compound.     

Isotactic poly(propylene‐co‐1‐pentene‐co‐1‐hexene) terpolymers: Synthesis,molecular characterization,and evidence of the trigonal polymorph

Terpolymers based on propylene with 1‐pentene and 1‐hexene as comonomeric units are satisfactorily synthesized using a metallocene catalyst. Thus, several terpolymers are prepared with distinct overall compositions in comonomers as well as three different 1‐pentene/1‐hexene ratios at a given composition to evaluate the influence on polymerization activity, intrinsic viscosity, and microstructural details. The new trigonal δ polymorph is observed in those quenched terpolymers with a global content in comonomers of about 14 mol %, independently of the ratio between both comonomers.
