The humid air induced processes of embrittlement of the Sn–Al alloy and hydrogen emission have been investigated. Using the
secondary-ion mass spectrometry, X-ray, scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry techniques it
was found that the brittleness is caused by a failure of phase adhesion due to accumulation of hydrogen and formation of oxidized
layers on phase boundaries during contact of the alloy with water vapour. Specific physical and electrochemical properties
of the Sn/Al phase boundary satisfy conditions for the formation of atomic hydrogen and its reaction with Sn. Electrochemical
corrosion plays an important role at the stage of formation of atomic hydrogen. The penetration of hydrogen and its accumulation
in the bulk of the alloy is due to the high energy of the phase boundary and the low energy of formation of unstable tin hydride.

Computer-assisted methods can be used to investigate the relationships between the molecular structures of compounds and their biological activity. A number of approaches have been reported in the literature, including correlations of activity with substituent constants, conformational analysis and display, quantum mechanical methods, and methods relying on discriminant development and pattern-recognition techniques. Application areas for this technology include drug design, agricultural chemical design, and studies of chemical toxicity and genetic toxicity (mutagenic or carcinogenic potential). These structure-activity methods are introduced, and citations are given. Several current structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies using pattern recognition are presented as examples of typical projects that are feasible with this approach. These include the investigation of a set of 122 antiinflammatory steroids, a study of 153 retinoids for cancer prevention, and a study of chemicals that have been tested in a sister chromatid exchange mutagen screen. 相似文献

Near real time process monitoring of the uranium content in an aqueous fuel recycling plant is a desired component of an advanced safeguards suite; Ultraviolet–Visible spectroscopy and Time Resolved Laser induced Fluorescence Spectroscopy can contribute to this technology gap. This work presents the observation of the spectroscopic parameters (molar absorptivities, fluorescent response) of the uranyl ion across the range of conditions expected in reprocessing chemistry. From this data, a monitor using the ratio of the absorbance of the uranyl ion at 403 and 426 nm has been developed. This technique can determine the nitrate solution concentration and can be coupled with a condition appropriate molar absorptivity to determine the uranyl concentration. This method provides a reliable technique for online, real time process monitoring of the uranyl and nitrate concentration under a wide range of solution compositions. 相似文献

Technetium tetrachloride and β-TcCl3, synthesized from the reaction of Tc metal and Cl2(g) in sealed tubes, were characterized by X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy. Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy measurements are in good agreement with the X-ray diffraction structures of the two compounds. For TcCl4, the absorbing Tc atom is surrounded by Cl atoms at 2.34(2) Å and Tc atoms at 3.66(4) Å. For β-TcCl3, the absorbing Tc atom is surrounded by Cl atoms at 2.40(2) Å and Tc atoms at 2.81(3), 3.66(4) and 5.71(6) Å. EXAFS spectroscopy indicates that the TcCl4 and β-TcCl3 samples obtained by sealed tube reactions are single phase. The X-ray absorption near edge structure spectra of TcCl4 and β-TcCl3 were recorded; the positions of the Tc K-edges of β-TcCl3 (21,050.5 eV) and TcCl4 (21,053.0 eV) are compared to the ones measured for α-TcCl3 (21,051.0 eV) and TcCl2 (21,048.8 eV). A correlation between the positions of the Tc K-edges and the oxidation state of the Tc atom in technetium binary chlorides was determined. 相似文献
