Synthesis of β-(1-3)-D-glucan under high pressure

The polycondensation of 1,2-0-exo-cyanethylidene-4,6-di-0-acetyl-3-0-trityl--D-glucopyranose (I) was accomplished in the presence of triphenylmethylium perchlorate in CH₂Cl₂ under the pressure of 14 kbar. The reaction was performed in the frozen solution after the phasic transition of the system, and led to the product of polycondensation which, after the removal of the protecting groups, gave the exactly regio- and stereo-regular -(1–3)-D-glucan.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 9, pp. 2129–2132, September, 1990.     

Gas phase nitration of benzene by nitric acid on ZSM-5 zeolite

Gas phase nitration of benzene on ZSM-5 zeolite has been studied at 140–170°C. Increase in the HNO₃/C₆H₆ ratio of the starting mixture was shown to increase the nitrobenzene yield. Process parameters worsened with time since reagents and products were strongly adsorbed and left the zeolite surface only at 220–250°C as CO, CO₂ and NO.

A new method for the synthesis of diorganylvinylphosphine oxides

Synthesis of the pentasaccharide repeating unit of the O-specific polysaccharide from salmonella strasbourg

The pentasaccharide α - Tyv - (1→3) - β - d - Man - (1→4) - α - l - Rha - (1→3) - d - Gal - (4←1) -α - d - Glc 1, the repeating unit of the O-specific polysaccharide chain of the lipopolysaccharide from S. Strasbourg, was obtained by glycosylation of benzyl - 2,6 - di - O - benzyl - 4 - O - (2,3,4 - tri - O - benzyl - 6 - O - benzoyl - α - d - glucopyranosyl) - β - d - galactopyranoside with 1,2 - methylorthoacetyl - 3 - O - acetyl - 4- O - [3 - O - (2,4 - di - O - acetyl - 3, 6 - dideoxy,- α - d - arabino - hexopyranosyl) - 2,4,6 - tri - O - acetyl - β - d - mannopyranosyl] - β - l - rhamnopyranose 3 followed by removal of protecting groups. The structure of the synthetic pentasaccharide was proved by methylation analysis and ¹³C NMR.     

Addition of secondary phosphines to N-vinylpyrroles

Secondary phosphines 1-3 react readily with N-vinylpyrroles 4 and 5 under radical initiation to give regiospecifically anti-Markovnikov adducts, diorganyl-2-(1-pyrrolyl)ethylphosphines 6a-d, highly reactive building blocks for organic synthesis, in 88-91% yields.
