We consider a nonlocal boundary-value problem for the Poisson equation in a rectangular domain. Dirichlet conditions are posed on a pair of adjacent sides of a rectangle, and integral constraints are given instead of standard boundary conditions on the other pair. The corresponding difference scheme is constructed and investigated; an a priori estimate of the solution is obtained with the help of energy inequality method. Discretization error estimate that is compatible with the smoothness of the solution sought is obtained. 相似文献

We consider a simple model case of stiff source terms in hyperbolic conservation laws, namely, the case of scalar conservation laws with a zeroth order source with low regularity. It is well known that a direct treatment of the source term by finite volume schemes gives unsatisfactory results for both the reduced CFL condition and refined meshes required because of the lack of accuracy on equilibrium states. The source term should be taken into account in the upwinding and discretized at the nodes of the grid. In order to solve numerically the problem, we introduce a so-called equilibrium schemes with the properties that (i) the maximum principle holds true; (ii) discrete entropy inequalities are satisfied; (iii) steady state solutions of the problem are maintained. One of the difficulties in studying the convergence is that there are no estimates for this problem. We therefore introduce a kinetic interpretation of upwinding taking into account the source terms. Based on the kinetic formulation we give a new convergence proof that only uses property (ii) in order to ensure desired compactness framework for a family of approximate solutions and that relies on minimal assumptions. The computational efficiency of our equilibrium schemes is demonstrated by numerical tests that show that, in comparison with an usual upwind scheme, the corresponding equilibrium version is far more accurate. Furthermore, numerical computations show that equilibrium schemes enable us to treat efficiently the sources with singularities and oscillating coefficients.

The effect of nonlinear transmission in coupled optical waveguide arrays is theoretically investigated and a realistic experimental setup is suggested. The beam is injected in a single boundary waveguide, linear refractive index of which (n(0)) is larger than refractive indexes (n) of other identical waveguides in the array. Particularly, the effect holds if omega(n(0)-n)/c>2Q, where Q is a linear coupling constant between array waveguides, omega is a carrier wave frequency, and c is a light velocity. Numerical experiments show that the energy transfers from the boundary waveguide to the waveguide array above a certain threshold intensity of the injected beam. This effect is due to the creation and the propagation of gap solitons in full analogy with a similar phenomenon in sine-Gordon lattice [Phys. Rev. Lett. 89, 134102 (2002)]]. 相似文献

Landau-Zener tunneling is discussed in connection with optical waveguide arrays. Light injected in a specific band of the Bloch spectrum in the propagation constant can be transmitted to another band, changing its physical properties. This can be achieved using two coupled waveguide arrays with different refractive indices. The step in the refractive index causes wave "acceleration" and thus induces strongly nonadiabatic Landau-Zener tunneling. Theoretically, the analysis is performed by considering a Schr?dinger equation in a periodic potential with a step. The region of physical parameters where this phenomenon can occur is analytically determined and a realistic experimental setup is suggested. Its application could allow the realization of light filters. 相似文献

Based on kinetic formulation for scalar conservation laws, we present implicit kinetic schemes. For time stepping these schemes require resolution of linear systems of algebraic equations. The scheme is conservative at steady states. We prove that if time marching procedure converges to some steady state solution, then the implicit kinetic scheme converges to some entropy steady state solution. We give sufficient condition of the convergence of time marching procedure. For scalar conservation laws with a stiff source term we construct a stiff numerical scheme with discontinuous artificial viscosity coefficients that ensure the scheme to be equilibrium conserving. We couple the developed implicit approach with the stiff space discretization, thus providing improved stability and equilibrium conservation property in the resulting scheme. Numerical results demonstrate high computational capabilities (stability for large CFL numbers, fast convergence, accuracy) of the developed implicit approach. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. We present a photon noise and diffraction-limited imaging method combining an imaging laser and ultrasonic waves. The laser optical feedback imaging (LOFI) technique is an ultrasensitive imaging method for imaging objects through or embedded within a scattering medium. However, LOFI performances are dramatically limited by parasitic optical feedback occurring in the experimental setup. In this Letter, we have tagged the ballistic photons by an acousto-optic effect in order to filter the parasitic feedback effect and to reach the theoretical and ultimate sensitivity of the LOFI technique. We present the principle and the experimental setup of the acousto-optic laser optical feedback imaging technique, and we demonstrate the suppression of the parasitic feedback. 相似文献

Acousto-optical coherence tomography (AOCT) consists in using random phase jumps on ultrasound and light to achieve a millimeter resolution when imaging thick scattering media. We combined this technique with heterodyne off-axis digital holography. Two-dimensional images of absorbing objects embedded in scattering phantoms are obtained with a good signal-to-noise ratio. We study the impact of the phase modulation characteristics on the amplitude of the acousto-optic signal and on the contrast and apparent size of the absorbing inclusion. 相似文献
