Fluorescence-dip infrared spectroscopy and predissociation dynamics of OH A 2Sigma+ (v = 4) radicals

Fluorescence-dip infrared spectroscopy, an UV-IR double-resonance technique, is employed to characterize the line positions, linewidths, and corresponding lifetimes of highly predissociative rovibrational levels of the excited A (2)Sigma(+) electronic state of the OH radical. Various lines of the 4 <--2 overtone transition in the excited A (2)Sigma(+) state are observed, from which the rotational, centrifugal distortion, and spin-rotation constants for the A (2)Sigma(+) (v = 4) state are determined, along with the vibrational frequency for the overtone transition. Homogeneous linewidths of 0.23-0.31 cm(-1) full width at half maximum are extracted from the line profiles, demonstrating that the N = 0 to 7 rotational levels of the OH A (2)Sigma(+) (v = 4) state undergo rapid predissociation with lifetimes of < or =23 ps. The experimental linewidths are in near quantitative agreement with first-principles theoretical predictions.     

Untersuchungen über die Oxydation von Butylbenzol in flüssiger Phase in Gegenwart von Kobalt- und Mangansalzen der Pyridincarbonsäuren

Zusammenfassung Es wurde der Einfluß der Kobalt- und Mangansalze der -, - und -Pyridincarbonsäuren auf die Luftoxydation von Rutylbenzol in flüssiger Phase untersucht. Dabei wurde festgestellt, daß das Kobaltpicolinat, Manganisonicotinat und Kobaltisonicotinat den Oxydationsverlauf zur Bildung von Carbonylverbindungen und Säuren lenken. Das Manganpicolinat weist ein selektives Oxydationsvermögen auf, vorwiegend zur Bildung von Estern.

Liquid phase oxidation of butyl-benzene in presence of Co and Mn pyridine carboxylates

The influence of Co- and Mn-salts of -, - and -pyridinecarboxylic acids, resp., on the oxidation of butylbenzene by air has been studied. It has been found that the Co salt of picolinic acid, Mn and Co isonicotinate direct the oxidation process in favour of carbonyl compounds and acids. With the Mn salt of picolinic acid, the oxidation mainly gives esters.

Sample preparation in analysis of pharmaceuticals

Sample preparation is a very important and essential step in environmental analysis. This article presents an overview of extraction methods for environmental samples, focusing especially on pharmaceuticals as there is great concern about them as pollutants.     

Probes for narcotic receptor mediated phenomena. Part 31: Synthesis of rac-(3R,6aS,11aS)-2-methyl-1,3,4,5,6,11a-hexahydro-2H-3,6a-methanobenzofuro[2,3-c]azocine-10-ol, and azocine-8-ol, the ortho-c and the para-c oxide-bridged phenylmorphan isomers

Two of the 12 possible oxide-bridged phenylmorphans, were synthesized, rac-(3R,6aS,11aS)-2-methyl-1,3,4,5,6,11a-hexahydro-2H-3,6a-methanobenzofuro[2,3-c]azocine-10-ol (7) (the ortho-c compound), and rac-(3R,6aS,11aS)-2-methyl-1,3,4,5,6,11a-hexahydro-2H-3,6a-methanobenzofuro[2,3-c]azocine-8-ol (8) (the para-c compound). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies indicated that the dihedral angle between the least squares planes through the phenyl ring and the atoms C₁, C_11a, C₁₂, and C₃ in the piperidine ring in both 7·CHCl₃ and 8·HBr was 6.9°. The C₁₂-C_6a-C_6b-C_10a torsion angle was found to be 139.3° for both compounds. The angular relationship between the phenolic ring and the piperidine ring in phenylmorphans that interact with specific opioid receptors as agonists or antagonists is of considerable theoretical interest.     

Kinetics of isotope exchange between [3-(iodophenyl)methyl]guanidine (mIBG) and [131I]-iodide

The reaction of isotope exchange between [3-(iodophenyl)methyl]guanidine, mIBG, and [¹³¹]-iodide in relatively concentrated solutions, in the presence of different ammonium salts, in a closed system, over the temperature range from 130 to 150°C, has been investigated. The reaction occurs either with (NH₄)₂SO₄ or CH₃COOH, which indicates that the reaction goes through some intermediate stages. Kinetic studies show the influence of the additives. The activation energies for the reaction with (NH₄)₂SO₄/H₂O, (NH₄)₂SO₄/CH₃COOH and CH₃COOH are 121.1, 115.1 and 84.5 kJ·mol^–1, respectively.     

Invertibility of a linear combination of two matrices and partial orderings

In this paper, we present some results relating different matrix partial orderings and the invertibility of a linear combination of EP matrices.     

Thermal electrocyclization reactions II: benzooctatetraenes and benzodecapentaenes

Thermal electrocyclization reactions of benzooctatetraenes and benzodecapentaenes substituted with R=H, Cl, and methyl were studied experimentally and computationally. Methyl and unsubstituted benzooctatetraenes and benzodecapentaenes give the [4.2.0]bicyclooctadiene products by 8π,6π-electrocyclization. Chlorine substitution led to thermal rearrangement of the initially formed 8π,6π-electrocyclization intermediates to give unprecedented products.     

Effects of Pressure Oscillations on Drainage in an Elastic Porous Medium

The effects of seismic stimulation on the flow of two immiscible fluids in an elastic synthetic porous medium is experimentally investigated. A wetting fluid is slowly evacuated from the medium, while a pressure oscillation is applied on the injected non- wetting fluid. The amplitude and frequency of the pressure oscillations as well as the evacuation speed are kept constant throughout an experiment. The resulting morphology of the invading structure is found to be strongly dependent on the interplay between the amplitude and the frequency of the applied pressure oscillations and the elasticity of the porous medium. Different combinations of these properties yield morphologically similar structures, allowing a classification of structures that is found to depend on a proposed dimensionless number.
