The primary purpose of valve seals in inhalation and other drug dispensing devices is to inhibit leakage of highly volatile formulation from pressurised canisters. This requirement often conflicts with smooth operation of valves because of poor lubrication of seals. The repercussions of this can be variability in dispensed dose as well as loss of prime and gradual wear of seals. Although a good volume of literature is available for general purpose o-ring seals, the characteristic behaviour of those used in pharmaceutical devices deviate from this significantly. The paper studies tribology of such seals, subjected to global fitment and canister pressure deformation and localised conjunctional elastohydrodynamic pressures. It is shown that ideally smooth seals would operate under iso-viscous elastic (soft EHL) regime of lubrication. However, the predicted ultra-thin films are insufficient to ensure fluid film lubrication because of rough micro-scale nature of elastomeric seal surface and poor lubricity of the usual bio-compatible formulations. The paper also shows that siliconisation of elastomeric contacting surface only marginally improves its tribological performance.  相似文献

This paper introduces a novel analytical method for determination of gear airborne noise under lightly loaded conditions, often promoting gear rattle of loose unengaged gear pairs. The system examined comprises a single gear pair, modelled through integrated contact tribology and inertial transient dynamics. Lubricant film thickness, structural vibration and airborne gear noise are predicted and correlated with experimental measurements undertaken in a semi-anechoic environment. Good agreement is noticed between the numerical predictions and the experimental measurements. The presented model is capable of estimating the airborne radiated gear noise levels and the dynamic behaviour of gear pairs under different operating conditions, with superimposed impulsive input speed harmonics.  相似文献

Prediction of friction and transmission efficiency are design objectives in transmission engineering. Unlike spur and helical involute gears, there is a dearth of numerical analysis in the case of hypoid gear pairs. In particular, it is important to take into account the side leakage of the lubricant from the contact as the result of the lubricant entrainment at an angle to the elliptical contact footprint. In the automobile differential hypoid gears, high loads result in non-Newtonian behaviour of the lubricant, which may exceed its limiting shear stress, a fact which has not been taken into account in the open literature. This results in conditions which deviate from observed experimental tractive behaviour. The paper takes into account these salient practical features of hypoid gear pair analysis under high load. It highlights a non-Newtonian shear model, which limits the lubricant shear behaviour. Prediction of friction and transmission efficiency is in line with those reported in the literature.  相似文献

A new multi-sensing scheme via nonlinear weakly coupled resonators is introduced in this paper, which can simultaneously detect two different physical stimuli by monitoring the dynamic response around the first two lowest modes. The system consists of a mechanically coupled bridge resonator and cantilever resonator. The eigenvalue problem is solved to identify the right geometry for the resonators to optimize their resonance frequencies based on mode localization in order to provide outstanding sensitivity. A nonlinear equivalent model is developed using the Euler–Bernoulli beam theory while accounting for the geometric and electrostatic nonlinearities. The sensor's dynamics are explored using a reduced-order model based on two-mode Galerkin discretization, which reveals the richness of the response. To demonstrate the proposed sensing scheme, the dynamic response of the weakly coupled resonator is investigated by tuning the stiffness and mass of the bridge and cantilever resonators, respectively. With its simple and scalable design, the proposed system shows great potential for intelligent multi-sensing detection in many applications.
