Mass transfer from irregular-shaped naphthalene particles (100-200 inn in size) was studitd in an electrodynamic balance. Charged particles were suspended in an electrostatic field directly in line with a calibrated air jet. Mass and size change histories were obtained under ambient conditions, and under steady- and pulsed-flow conditions. For natural convection, the time-averaged Sherwood number was similar to that for spheres. Forced-convection Sherwood number under steady-flow conditions was strongly dependent on particle shape and panicle Reynolds number, and was consistently higher than values predicted for spheres at comparable Reynolds numbers. This study validates the technique and indicates the shape effect on mass transfer form single particles.  相似文献

Genes of interest can be selectively metallized via the incorporation of modified triphosphates. These triphosphates bear functions that can be further derivatized with aldehyde groups via the use of click chemistry. The effects of viscous dissipation on thermal entrance heat transfer in a parallel plate channel filled with a saturated porous medium, is investigated analytically on the basis of a Darcy model. The case of isothermal boundary is treated. The local and the bulk temperature distribution along with the Nusselt number in the thermal entrance region were found. The fully developed Nusselt number, independent of the Brinkman number, is found
to be 6. It is observed that neglecting the effects of viscous dissipation would lead to the well-known case of internal flows, with Nusselt number equal to 4.93. A finite difference numerical solution is also utilized. It is seen that the results of these two methods, analytical and numerical, are in good agreement.  相似文献

A spectral Fourier-Chebyshev method for calculating unsteady two-dimensional free surface flows is presented and discussed. The vorticity-stream function equations are used in association with an influence matrix technique for prescribing the boundary and free surface conditions. In this paper a two-dimensional numerical simulation of a steady incompressible and turbulent model has been carried out to study the effects of vortex generators in a compact heat exchanger in a curvilinear coordinate system. The mesh which is applied in this study is boundary fitted and has been smoothed by a Laplace operator. Experimental data of a former study has been applied to validate the numerical results. The effects of geometrical variation are studied by adjusting vortex generators’ inclination and relative cross location. The major issue of this study is the optimal trade-off by selecting an optimal geometric, considering the opposite influences of geometrical variation on Nusselt number and pressure drop.  相似文献

Dynamic rheological measurements provide a valid determination of the ability of polymeric ingredients to compensate the reduced contribution of fat to texture and mouthfeel, as well as provide an emulsion that easily breaks down in commercial low-fat butters. In this study, the linear effects of pectin (PE, 0.5%) and xanthan gum (XG, 0.1%) and their interactions with locust bean gum (LBG, 0.2% and 0.4%), sodium-alginate (ALG, 0.2% and 0.4%), and modified starch (MS, 0.2% and 0.4%) on the flow behavior, dynamic rheological characteristics, and stability of reduced-fat butters containing 10% walnut oil (WO) were investigated. Results showed that the power law model can adequately fit the shear-rate/shear-stress data (0.888?≤?r?≤?0.992, p?G′?>?G″ at all frequencies. The samples prepared with PE–LBG (0.2% and 0.4%) and XG–ALG (0.4%) had the highest G′ values. The phase angle (G″/G′) decreased with increasing frequency from 0.03 to 15?Hz. The maximum apparent viscosity and stability were, respectively, found for WO butters formulated with XG–0.2% ALG and PE–0.4% LBG.  相似文献
