Reaction of furfuryl and tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohols with nitriles over copper oxide catalysts under a hydrogen pressure of 15 atm at a temperature of 230C gives N-alkylfurfuryl- (yield 46–50%) and N-alkyl-tetrahydrofurfurylamines (49–53%), and N-alkylpiperidines (28–41%). A number of new acridino[4,3-c]acridinedione derivatives have been synthesized for the first time by condensation of N1,N5-bis(arylmethylidene)naphthalene-1,5-diamines with cyclic 1,3-diketones (cyclohexane-1,3-dione and dimedone).
