Strain of an anisotropic monolith during the excavation of minerals

We solve the problem of the normal and transverse shear in an anisotropic monolith during the excavation of a stratum of solid mineral. It is shown that the stress perturbation field in the rock is due to the whole extent of the excavated portion of the stratum. We study way in which the friction that arises between the interacting rock of the roof and the floor influences the strain and stress fields as the front of the excavation evolves, and also the influence of the extent of the excavated portion of the rock stratum on the magnitude of the accumulated tangential displacements. Direct measurement of CF3I multiphoton dissociation yield by iodine-laser detection of iodine atoms

The primary yield of CF₃I multiphoton dissociation under CO₂-laser irradiation has been determined by direct monitoring of iodine atoms using a pulsed iodine laser. The primary yield was found to exceed markedly an observed MPD yield obtained from measurement of the CF₃I consumption not only in CF₃I-N₂ but also in CF₃I-O₂ mixtures.     

Covalent immobilization of heparin on a collagen film

Four procedures for the covalent immobilization of heparin (Hp) on a collagen film (CF) have been investigated. In three of them (methods (I–A, B, C), the CF was first treated with epichlorohydrin and ammonia and the Hp was added with the aid of CMBC (method I–A), by reductive amination in the presence of NaCH CN (method I–B), and with the aid of CMEC after succinylation (method I–C). In the fourth procedure (method II), the CF was activated by treatment with alkali and the Hp was added with the aid of CMEC. It was shown that the maximum amount of Hp was immobilized by method II.M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University. (Z)-3-p-tolylsulfinylacrylonitrile as a chiral dienophile: diels-alder reactions with furan and acyclic dienes

The behavior of (Z)-3-p-tolylsulfinylacrylonitrile (1) as a chiral dienophile has been evaluated from its reactions with furan and acyclic dienes. Electrostatic interactions of the cyano group with the sulfinyl one restrict the conformational mobility around the C-S bond, thus controlling the pi-facial selectivity, which is almost complete in all cases, the approach of the diene from the less-hindered face of the dienophile (that bearing the lone electron pair) in the predominant rotamer being the favored one. The regioselectivity is also completely controlled by the cyano group. Additionally, the reactivity of compound 1 as well as its endo-selectivity are both higher than those observed for the corresponding (Z)-3-sulfinylacrylates, thus proving the potential of sulfinylnitriles as chiral dienophiles.
