Construction and testing of the ALICE TRD chambers at LHE,JINR

The current status of construction and testing of Transition Radiation Detectors (TRD) for ALICE at LHE, JINR, is presented. The main purpose of this detector is electron identification at intensive pion background. The whole ALICE TRD system is comprised of 540 wire chambers of total sensitive area ∼750 m². Each chamber consists of drift and amplifying gaps and a radiator. One hundred such TRD chambers will be constructed at LHE, JINR. The text was submitted by the authors in English.     

Automatized One-dimensional X-Ray-Detector

One-dimensional gas-filled X-ray detectors with delay line readout have been developed and tested on line with IBM-PC. The pressure of a xenon (90) and CH₄ (10) mixture can be set over a range of 1–10 atm. The position resolution for 8 keV photons is about 170 μm. Main properties and possible applications of the detector are presented.

A device with a low-pressure multistep avalanche chamber for thermal neutron imaging was developed and tested on a neutronographic beam of the nuclear reactor. The device operates on-line with a minicomputer. The detection efficiency of thermal neutrons is better than 3%, while the detection efficiency of 60 keV γ-quanta is less than 10^?6.
