The 4D Klein-Gordon, Dirac and Quantization Equations from 5D Null Paths

Results from 5D induced-matter and membrane theory with null paths are extended to show that a particle obeys the 4D Klein-Gordon equation but with a variable mass. The Dirac equation also follows, but raises concerns about 4D quantization in the two natural 5D gauges, and reopens the question of a Regge-like trajectory for the spin angular momenta and squared masses of gravitationally-dominated systems.     

A solution of the DGLAP equation for gluon at low x

We obtain a solution of the DGLAP equation for the gluon at low x first by expanding the gluon in a Taylor series and then using the method of characteristics. We test its validity by comparing it with that of Glück, Reya and Vogt. The convergence criteria of the approximation used are also discussed. We also calculate εF ₂(x,Q)²/ε In Q ² using its approximate relations with the gluon distribution at low x. The predictions are then compared with the HERA data.     

Condis Crystals of Small Molecules III. Thermal Analysis of Plastic and Condis Crystals of some Cyclosilanes

Three cyclic methyl and ethyl substituted silanes were synthesized and their thermal properties analyzed. All show a plastic crystalline state which permits also ring and/or side-chain conformational motion as judged from the enthalpies of transition to the isotropic state. Heat capacity data and entropies of disordering into the plastic crystal leave open the possibility of a condis (conformationally disordered) state below the plastic crystal state with a continuous, transitionless freezing of the conformational motion at lower temperature.     

Diffractively produced charm final states in 800-GeV/c pp collisions

We report the first observation of diffractively produced open charm in 800-GeV/c pp collisions of the type pp-->pD*X. We measure cross sections of sigma(diff)(D*+) = (0.185+/-0.044+/-0.054) (mu)b and sigma(diff)(D(*-)) = (0.174+/-0.034+/-0.029) (mu)b. Our measurements are based on 4.3x10(9) events recorded by FNAL E690 in the fixed-target run of 1991. We compare our results with previous fixed-target charm experiments.     

Overtone spectroscopy of some benzaldehyde derivatives

Overtone spectrum of o, m and p-nitrobenzaldehydes and p-chlorobenzaldehyde has been studied in 2000–12000 cm⁻¹ region. Vibrational frequencies and anharmonicity constants for aryl as well as alkyl CH stretch vibrations have been determined. We have also determined the internuclear distances for the aryl CH bond in the different molecules. The small variation observed in these distances is an indication of the substitution effect. It is observed that in the case of p-disubstituted benzens, the shift in aryl CH bond is proportional to sum of the Hammet σ of the substituents. However in the case of o-disubstituted benzenes it is only 80% of the para-substituted shift.     

Vacuum Instability

NAbstract Following fresh attempts to resolve the problem of the energy density of the vacuum, we reconsider the case where the cosmological constant is derived from a higher-dimensional version of general relativity, and interpret the gauge-dependence of Λ as a dynamical effect. This leads to a relation between the change in Λ and the line element (action) which is independent of gauge choices and fundamental constants: dΛds² = −6. This implies that the (classical) vacuum is unstable, with implications for particle production.     

Organosilane polymers. I. Poly(dimethylsilylene)

Poly(dimethylsilylene) higher polymers prepared by alkali metal coupling of purified dimethyldichlorosilane were found to be high melting, largely crystalline polymers, soluble in solvents at temperatures above 200°C.
