The effect of a suppressor to environmental noise – A case study

The purpose of the study is to describe the effect of a suppressor to environmental noise with a typical Finnish rifle shooting range that has a shooting shelter and some noise berms. The noise measurements were carried out at Kyronpelto shooting range situated near Mikkeli in Finland. The range is equipped with wooden shooting shelter, the shooting distance is 150 m, and it has berms on sides and at the impact end. The terrain is relatively flat in the area. The best noise area reduction caused by a suppressor could be seen at angles of 315–45° from the shooting direction. The projectile noise dominates at angles 45–70°, and the effect of the suppressor is very small. To the side and back the shooting shelter has already gained significant noise attenuation, and therefore the suppressor cannot reduce the noise area much more. When there was a relatively tight shooting shelter to the side and back, the suppressor did not reduce the environmental noise area significantly any more. It can be calculated that the noise area of 65 dB (L_AImax) is reduced from 95 ha to 50 ha (0.95 km²–0.50 km²) with the help of a suppressor. However, most of the area is situated to the shooting sector and it has to be unoccupied for safety reasons.

On invariant function spaces H Qp q (R)

New function spaces, which generalize the classical Dirichlet space, BMOA or also the recently defined Q _p space, are introduced on Riemann surfaces. Except inclusions between these generalized spaces it is shown that the capacity Bloch space is a maximal space for them.

Infrared spectrum of CO2 in the region of the bending fundamental ν2

The infrared spectrum of CO₂ in the region 540–830 cm^?1 has been studied with a Fourier spectrometer at a resolution of 0.010 cm^?1. In addition to the fundamental ν₂, more than 10 “hot” band transitions of ¹²C¹⁶O₂ have been identified. The rotational constants involved have been derived. Special care has been taken in obtaining accurate constants for the level 01¹0. The ν₂ fundamentals of the isotopic molecules ¹³C¹⁶O₂, ¹⁶O¹²C¹⁸O, and ¹⁶O¹²C¹⁷O have also been observed in a natural sample.     

BMOA(R,m) and capacity density Bloch spaces on hyperbolic Riemann surfaces

We investigate a number of spaces of functions on Riemann surfaces which are related to Bloch spaces and functions of bounded mean oscillation (BMO). These spaces are defined using properties for the corresponding function spaces on the unit disk in the complex plane, and we show that, in general, different properties lead to different function spaces. We catalogue almost completely the various relationships between these spaces.     

Effect of cognitive load on articulation rate and formant frequencies during simulator flights

It was explored how three types of intensive cognitive load typical of military aviation (load on situation awareness, information processing, or decision-making) affect speech. The utterances of 13 male military pilots were recorded during simulated combat flights. Articulation rate was calculated from the speech samples, and the first formant (F1) and second formant (F2) were tracked from first-syllable short vowels in pre-defined phoneme environments. Articulation rate was found to correlate negatively (albeit with low coefficients) with loads on situation awareness and decision-making but not with changes in F1 or F2. Changes were seen in the spectrum of the vowels: mean F1 of front vowels usually increased and their mean F2 decreased as a function of cognitive load, and both F1 and F2 of back vowels increased. The strongest associations were seen between the three types of cognitive load and F1 and F2 changes in back vowels. Because fluent and clear radio speech communication is vital to safety in aviation and temporal and spectral changes may affect speech intelligibility, careful use of standard aviation phraseology and training in the production of clear speech during a high level of cognitive load are important measures that diminish the probability of possible misunderstandings.     

Fermi resonance in the spectrum of deuterated monofluoroacetylene

A strong Fermi resonance interaction between two Σ-type levels ν₂ and 2ν₃ of DCCF together with the corresponding resonance between the levels ν₂ + ν₃ and 3ν₃ has been observed. The rotational structure of the bands has been investigated in both the diads which are situated around 2100 and 3100 cm^?1. The molecular constants involved have been derived.
