We implement a dynamic model that describes the polarization behavior in vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers that contain an absorbing region surrounding the active zone. We find four regions of qualitatively different behavior: stable linearly polarized operation, intensity pulsations of a linearly polarized component, pulsations of both total-intensity and polarization components, and polarization self-pulsation with constant total intensity. We characterize the four regions by computing the polarization-resolved optical and power spectra. The predicted behavior agrees with recent experimental results.  相似文献

Background  

Growth hormone (GH) plays an incompletely understood role in the development of the central nervous system (CNS). In this study, we use transgenic mice expressing a growth hormone antagonist (GHA) to explore the role of GH in regulating postnatal brain, spinal cord and body growth into adulthood. The GHA transgene encodes a protein that inhibits the binding of GH to its receptor, specifically antagonizing the trophic effects of endogenous GH.  相似文献

We introduce a chaos-based communication scheme allowing for bidirectional exchange of information. Coupling [corrected] two semiconductor lasers through a partially transparent optical mirror, placed in the pathway connecting the lasers [corrected] delay dynamics is induced in both lasers. We numerically demonstrate that this dynamics can be identically synchronized, and moreover, information introduced on both ends of the link can be simultaneously transmitted. This scheme allows one to negotiate a key through a public channel.  相似文献

Can different or even identical coupled oscillators be completely uncorrelated and still be synchronized? What can be concluded from the absence of correlations or even mutual information in networks of dynamical elements about their connectivity? These are fundamental and far-reaching questions arising in many complex systems. In this Letter, we address these two questions and demonstrate in simple and generic network motifs that synchronized behavior in the generalized sense can be realized and constructed such that no correlations and even negligible mutual information remain. Our findings raise new questions, in particular, whether and to what extent indirect connections are being underestimated, since the related collective behavior and even synchronization are less likely to be detected.  相似文献

Fusion cross-sections for the 7Li + 12C reaction have been measured at energies above the Coulomb barrier by the direct detection of evaporation residues. The heavy evaporation residues with energies below 3 MeV could not be separated out from the α-particles in the spectrum and hence their contribution was estimated using statistical model calculations. The present work indicates that suppression of fusion cross-sections due to the breakup of 7Li may not be significant for 7Li + 12C reaction at energies around the barrier.  相似文献

The problem of the covering time for sites visitedk-times is defined as the mean time taken by a random walk to visit each site of a lattice at leastk times. We performed the investigation using Monte Carlo simulations over one dimensional lattices, ofN sites, with periodic boundary conditions. Two different regions are investigated:Nk1 andkN1. In the former region, we obtain a behaviour of the typet k/t 1=a Bk –0.35+A(k)N –0.75, (a <1.6). In the latter region we obtain two possible behaviours:t k k 0.95 andt k k(lnk)–0.5. We study the regime of anticipated synchronization in unidirectionally coupled model neurons subject to a common external aperiodic forcing that makes their behavior unpredictable. We show numerically and by analog hardware electronic circuits that, under appropriate coupling conditions, the pulses fired by the slave neuron anticipate (i.e., predict) the pulses fired by the master neuron. This anticipated synchronization occurs even when the common external forcing is white noise.  相似文献

Background  

The 5-HT3 receptor is a member of a neurotransmitter-gated ion channel family which includes nicotinic acetylcholine, GABAA, and glycine receptors. While antibodies specific for the 5-HT3A receptor subunit are plentiful, and have revealed a wealth of structural and functional information, few antisera exist for the detection of 5-HT3B receptor subunits. The reactivity of the 2,2′-, 2,4′-, 4,4′-dibenzyldiisocyanate (2,2′-, 2,4′-, 4,4′-DBDI) with n-butanol in benzene has been studied. The concentrations of all species were monitored by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The reactivity of 4,4′-DBDI is similar to that of 4,4′-diphenylmethanediisocyanate (4,4′-MDI). Very strong intramolecular catalytic effects were noticed in the case of 2,2′-DBDI, probably due to the variable molecular geometry. These effects are responsible for the whole reaction pattern. The 2,4′-DBDI NCO ortho and para groups reactivities are different and comparable to that of 2,4-toluylenediisocyanate (2,4-TDI).  相似文献
