We experimentally demonstrate the first integrated temporal Fourier transformer based on a linearly chirped Bragg grating waveguide written in silica glass with a femtosecond laser. The operation is based on mapping the energy spectrum of the input optical signal to the output temporal waveform by making use of first-order chromatic dispersion. The device operates in reflection, has a bandwidth of 10 nm, and can be used for incident temporal waveforms as long as 20 ps. Experimental results, obtained through both temporal oscilloscope traces and Fourier transform spectral interferometry, display a successful Fourier transformation of in-phase and out-of-phase pairs of input optical pulses, and demonstrate the correct functionality of the device for both amplitude and phase of the temporal output. 相似文献

A random walk-like model is considered to discuss statistical aspects of tournaments. The model is applied to soccer leagues
with emphasis on the scores. This competitive system was computationally simulated and the results are compared with empirical
data from the English, the German and the Spanish leagues and showed a good agreement with them. The present approach enabled
us to characterize a diffusion where the scores are not normally distributed, having a short and asymmetric tail extending
towards more positive values. We argue that this non-Gaussian behavior is related with the difference between the teams and
with the asymmetry of the scores system. In addition, we compared two tournament systems: the all-play-all and the elimination

Background
We have recorded responses from single neurons in murine visual cortex to determine the effectiveness of the input from the two murine cone photoreceptor mechanisms and whether there is any unique selectivity for cone inputs at this higher region of the visual system that would support the possibility of colour vision in mice. Each eye was stimulated by diffuse light, either 370 (strong stimulus for the ultra-violet (UV) cone opsin) or 505 nm (exclusively stimulating the middle wavelength sensitive (M) cone opsin), obtained from light emitting diodes (LEDs) in the presence of a strong adapting light that suppressed the responses of rods.Results
Single cells responded to these diffuse stimuli in all areas of striate cortex. Two types of responsive cells were encountered. One type (135/323 – 42%) had little to no spontaneous activity and responded at either the on and/or the off phase of the light stimulus with a few impulses often of relatively large amplitude. A second type (166/323 – 51%) had spontaneous activity and responded tonically to light stimuli with impulses often of small amplitude. Most of the cells responded similarly to both spectral stimuli. A few (18/323 – 6%) responded strongly or exclusively to one or the other spectral stimulus and rarely in a spectrally opponent manner.Conclusion
Most cells in murine striate cortex receive excitatory inputs from both UV- and M-cones. A small fraction shows either strong selectivity for one or the other cone mechanism and occasionally cone opponent responses. Cells that could underlie chromatic contrast detection are present but extremely rare in murine striate cortex. 相似文献5.

We study the Timoshenko systems with a viscoelastic dissipative mechanism of Kelvin–Voigt type. We prove that the model is analytical if and only if the viscoelastic damping is present in both the shear stress and the bending moment. Otherwise, the corresponding semigroup is not exponentially stable no matter the choice of the coefficients. This result is different to all others related to Timoshenko model with partial dissipation, which establish that the system is exponentially stable if and only if the wave speeds are equal. Finally, we show that the solution decays polynomially to zero as \({t^{-1/2}}\) , no matter where the viscoelastic mechanism is effective and that the rate is optimal whenever the initial data are taken on the domain of the infinitesimal operator. 相似文献

A complete theoretical model is presented for the thermal mirror technique under top-hat laser excitation. Considering the
attenuation of the top-hat excitation laser intensity along the thickness of a sample due to its optical absorption coefficient,
we calculate the laser-induced temperature and surface deformation profiles. A simplified theoretical model for a high absorption
sample is also developed. The center intensity of a probe beam reflected from the thermal mirror at a detector plane is derived.
Numerical simulation shows that the thermal mirror under the top-hat laser excitation is as sensitive as that under Gaussian
laser excitation. With top-hat laser excitation, the experimental results of thermo-physical properties of opaque samples
are found to be well consistent with literature values, validating the theory. 相似文献

We consider nonlocal effects, obtained by incorporating fractional
derivatives in the kinetic energy of a conventional Hamiltonian, to analyze physical properties of
non-crystalline
solids at very low temperature. By using thermal Green functions,
we deduce some experimentally observable quantities such as the
particle momentum distribution function, the particle energy
distribution function, and the specific heat. The
agreement between the results obtained for the specific heat and
the experimental data suggests that the approach presented here may
be useful as a phenomenological model to investigate thermal properties of
