The influence of the band structure of epitaxial graphene on SiC on the transistor characteristics

We fabricated high-mobility field-effect transistors based on epitaxial graphene synthesized by vacuum graphitization of both the Si- and C-faces of SiC. Room-temperature field-effect mobilities >4000 cm²/V s for both electrons and holes were achieved, although with wide distributions. By using a high-k gate dielectric, we were able to measure the transistor characteristics in a wide carrier density range, where the mobility is seen to decrease as the carrier density increases. We formulate a simple semiclassical model of electrical transport in graphene, and explain the sublinear dependence of conductivity on carrier density from the view point of the few-layer graphene energy band structure. Our analysis reveals important differences between the few-layer graphene energy dispersions on the SiC Si- and C-faces, providing the first evidence based on electrical device characteristics for the theoretically proposed energy dispersion difference between graphene synthesized on these two faces of SiC.     

Dansyl-styrylquinoline conjugate as divalent iron sensor

Synthesis and photophysical studies of a simple and efficient dansyl-styrylquinoline conjugate (DansSQ) which shows excellent selectivity toward Fe²⁺ over other transition metal ions including Fe³⁺ are described. The fluorescent emission of DansSQ at 450 nm was enhanced upon addition of Fe²⁺ in the presence of common interfering metal ions in background. These studies suggest that DansSQ could be used as fluorescent sensor for Fe²⁺.     

Sterically encumbered regioselective cycloaddition of a calixarene derived bis(spirodienone) with 1,2-benzoquinones

A calix[4]arene derived bis(spirodienone) acts as the 2π component in a cycloaddition reaction with two molecules of 3,5-di-tert-butyl-1,2-benzoquinone in the [2+4] manner leading to macrocycles with a benzodioxin moiety. A theoretical rationalization of the results suggested a sterically encumbered regioselective pathway, which gives sterically crowded products.     

One-pot facile synthesis,crystal structure and antifungal activity of 1,2,3-triazoles bridged with amine-amide functionalities

A library of twenty five 1,2,3-triazoles bridged with amine-amide functionalities have been synthesized from reaction of N-substituted(prop-2-yn-1-yl)amines (2a–2e), 2-bromo-N-arylacetamides (4a–4e) and sodium azide through copper(I)-catalyzed alkyne-azide cycloaddition. The synthesized compounds were characterized by using FTIR, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, and HRMS techniques. The structures of synthesized 5a (CCDC 1569245) and 5h (CCDC 1569249) were also confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Antifungal evaluation of newly synthesized triazoles was carried out against – Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. Biological screening of synthesized 1,2,3-triazoles revealed moderate to good antifungal activity against tested strains.     

An Analysis of the Proton Structure Function and the Gluon Distributions at Small x

Recently, we reported an analysis of Proton structure function at small x based on Taylor approximated DGLAP equations assuming a plausible relationship between the singlet and the gluon distributions. In this paper, we report a generalised version of the previous work. A corresponding study of the suggested gluon distribution is also made.The present generalised version of the model for the structure function results in a wider x range of phenomenological validity than the earlier one. A comparison of both the models of the proton structure function and the gluon distribution is made with exact result as well as with the Froissart saturated models of Block, Durand and Mckay.     

Direct access to upper rim substituted mono- and diaryloxy calix[4]arenes via bis(spirodienone) route

A seemingly ipso-like nucleophilic substitution of the upper rim of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene is accomplished by an indirect method involving calix[4]arene derived bis(spirodienone). This method not only provides both mono and 1,3-diaryloxy calixarenes but also enables the synthesis of upper rim monothio substituted calix[4]arenes. A modification of the methodology can be successfully extended for the selective synthesis of mono- and 1,3-diquinone calix[4]arenes having free hydroxyl groups at the lower rim, in fewer steps.     

Synthesis,Characterization, and Antimicrobial Potential of Some 1,4-Disubstituted 1,2,3-Bistriazoles

Abstract

A convenient synthesis of some new 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-bistriazoles (3a–3f, 4a–4f, 6a–6b, 7a–7b) is reported via copper(I)-catalyzed Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of various terminal alkynes with 1,4-bis(azidomethyl)benzene and 1,6-diazidohexane. The synthesized compounds were characterized by spectral techniques including infrared, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, and high-resolution mass spectrometry and tested in vitro for antimicrobial potential against Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive bacteria), Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli (Gram-negative bacteria), and Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger (fungi). Among the synthesized 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-bistriazoles, compounds 6a, 6b, and 7b displayed excellent antimicrobial potential against most of the tested strains.     

A new Hg(2+) -selective fluorescent sensor based on a 1,3-alternate thiacalix[4]arene anchored with four 8-quinolinoloxy groups

A new thiacalix [4]arene derivative in a 1,3-alternate conformation bearing four quinolinoloxy groups through propyl chains has been synthesized, and its metal ion-binding and fluorescence-sensing properties were investigated in both THF and 10% H2O-THF systems. The designed ligand exhibited pronounced Hg2+ -selective on-off type fluoroionophoric properties among the representative transition and heavy metal ions including Cu2+. The detection limit for Hg2+ was found to be 2.0 x 10(-6) M in the mixed H2O-THF system. Detailed spectral studies including 1H NMR and MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopy reveal the unusual formation of a tetramercury complex with the ligand, in which the four propyl arms containing the quinolinoloxy groups adopt a "tetrapodand" conformation enclosing one Hg2+ ion each in the four cavities thus formed.     

Synthesis,antibacterial, and antioxidant activities of naphthyl-linked disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles

Here, click synthesis of 15 naphthyl-linked disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles has been carried out by the reaction between 1-(prop-2-yn-1-yloxy)naphthalene and aromatic azides. The structure elucidation of the synthesized compounds was carried out by FTIR, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, and HRMS techniques. Further, the compound 7f was confirmed by X-ray crystallography (CCDC 1876891). The synthesized compounds were explored for antibacterial activity against Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus. Biological evaluation of synthesized 1,2,3-triazoles revealed moderate to good antibacterial activity against the tested strains. The antioxidative behavior of synthesized compounds manifested the remarkable free radical scavenging activity using DPPH assay.     

Molecular fluorescent probe for Zn based on 2-(2-nitrostyryl)-8-methoxyquinoline

A fluorescent Zn²⁺ sensor based on the 2-(2-nitrostyryl)-8-methoxyquinoline (2-nitroSQ) has been designed, synthesized, and characterized by various spectral techniques. The designed fluorophore displays high selectivity, sensitive fluorescence enhancement (13-fold), and strong binding affinity toward Zn²⁺ among the various biologically significant metal ions examined in ACN-H₂O (9:1, v/v).
