The structure of spherical micelles of the diblock poly(styrene-block-acrylic acid) [PS-b-PA] copolymer in water was investigated up to concentrations where the polyelectrolyte coronal layers have to shrink and/or interpenetrate in order to accommodate the micelles in the increasingly crowded volume. We obtained the partial structure factors pertaining to the core and corona density correlations with small angle neutron scattering and contrast matching in the water. The counterion structure factor was obtained with small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) with a synchrotron radiation source. Furthermore, we have measured the flow curves and dynamic visco-elastic moduli. The functionality of the micelles is fixed with a 9 nm diameter PS core and a corona formed by around 100 PA arms. As shown by the SAXS intensities, the counterions are distributed in the coronal layer with the same density profile as the corona forming segments. Irrespective ionic strength and micelle charge, the corona shrinks with increasing packing fraction. At high charge and minimal screening conditions, the polyelectrolyte chains remain almost fully stretched and they interdigitate once the volume fraction exceeds the critical value 0.53+/-0.02. Interpenetration of the polyelectrolyte brushes also controls the fluid rheology: The viscosity increases by three orders of magnitude and the parallel frequency scaling behavior of the dynamic moduli suggests the formation of a physical gel. The electrorheological fluids with the disperse phase formed by the particles of hydrated aluminum oxides prepared by the chemical precipitation from aluminum-containing solutions and subjected to heat treatment at different temperatures are studied. It is shown that the electrorheological activity of suspensions depends on the chemical and phase compositions of the dispersed phase. The influence of water, whose different forms comprise hydrated aluminum oxides, on the manifestation of the electrorheological effect of suspensions is estimated. It is established that the maximum gain in the effective viscosity of electrorheological fluids is related with water molecules forming hydrogen bonds in the interlayer space of the boehmite lattice. 相似文献

The problem of the development of a laminar jet of viscous incompressible fluid with zero excess impulse (the wake of a hydrodynamic motor) was investigated for the first time by Birkhoff and Zarantonello [1], who found a self-similar solution to the dynamical problem for the case of a two-dimensional laminar wake. The problem of the development of turbulent wakes of hydrodynamic motors in the near and far flow regions was solved by Ginevskii [2] on the basis of an integral method. In the present paper, the method of asymptotic expansions is used on the basis of the boundary layer equations to solve nonself-similar problems of the development of laminar jet flows of a viscous incompressible fluid with zero excess impulse. The obtained solution takes into account the influence of the details of the source (finite size of the body and its geometry) and the value of the Prandtl number on the velocity and temperature distribution. The second and third terms in the asymptotic expansion of the stream function in the nonsimilar problem of the development of a two-dimensional turbulent jet in an unbounded space are found in final form. Results of experimental investigations of free turbulent jets are cited, and the effect of the initial velocity profile on the aerodynamic characteristics of the jet is considered. The problem of the development of a two-dimensional turbulent jet in an unbounded space has been considered in [1–3]. The existing solution is similar, and is valid only at a sufficiently large distance from the slit. Allowance for the finite dimensions of the slit leads to a nonsimilar problem. It is shown that the noncatalyzed chemical grafting of an epoxy oligomer onto the surface of montmorillonite platelets may
proceed via the reaction between the epoxy groups and the hydroxyl groups of the organic modifying agent of the layered aluminosilicate.
The effect of grafting on the structure and heat resistance of the cured epoxy nanocomposite is studied. Complete exfoliation
of montmorillonite particles into individual platelets is shown to be a necessary but insufficient condition for increasing
the glass-transition temperature of the nanocomposite relative to that of the initial matrix. A much higher contribution to
the increase in the glass-transition temperature is ensured by grafting of epoxy molecular chains onto the surface of aluminosilicate
platelets; i.e., strong covalent matrix-aluminosilicate bonds form in addition to physical bonds, a process that entails development
