Procedures for enhancing the intelligibility of a target talker in the presence of a co-channel competing talker were evaluated in tests involving (i) continuously voiced sentences spoken on a monotone, (ii) continuously voiced sentences with time-varying intonation, and (iii) noncontinuously voiced sentences produced with natural intonation. The procedures were based on the methods of harmonic selection and cepstral filtering [R.J. Stubbs and Q. Summerfield, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 87, 359-372 (1990)]. Target and competing voices were combined at signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) between -10 dB and +10 dB. Subjects were a group with normal hearing and a heterogeneous group with mild-moderate cochlear hearing impairments. Processing enhanced the target voice over a range of SNRs for each type of sentence and for most listeners. Enhancement was greatest at negative SNRs. Among the impaired listeners, benefit was generally greater for those with milder losses. These results consolidate and extend previous demonstrations that voice-separation algorithms that exploit the harmonic structure of the voiced portions of speech can enhance intelligibility. However, practical application of such algorithms depends on a solution to the problem of tracking the fundamental-frequency contour of one voice in the presence of a competing voice.  相似文献

The Leishmania lipophosphoglycan (LPG) is the most abundant cell surface glycoconjugate of a family of infectious protozoa. Pentamidine, a common drug used in the treatment of Leishmania infections, has been modified with boronic acids so that it might bind more selectively to the phosphodisaccharide repeating unit of the LPG. Analysis of total folate concentration measured by microbiological assay in a variety of foods submitted in a routine manner to experienced laboratories that regularly perform folate analysis on fee-for-service basis was evaluated. Homogenates of fresh strawberries, frozen spinach, orange juice, frozen meat and vegetable pizza, dry macaroni, and dried pinto beans were prepared and stored under conditions previously determined to maintain stability of folate content. An aliquot of each composite and of 3 certified reference materials were sent on each of 4 occasions to 4 laboratories. Results for macaroni and pizza, the only folic acid-fortified foods, had considerably lower between-laboratory variation (CV(B)) with CV(B) of 9-11% versus >45% for other foods. Mean total folate ranged from 14 to 279 microg/100 g for a mixed vegetable reference material, from 5 to 70 microg/100 g for strawberries, and from 28 to 81 microg/100 g for wholemeal flour. Only 1 laboratory reported using a tri-enzyme extraction, and all laboratories used folic acid fortified foods as internal control materials. Users of commercial total folate analysis should understand the uncertainty in values determined by microbiological assay, particularly for foods containing primarily naturally occurring folate, which may not be apparent when replicate samples are not submitted for analysis.  相似文献

Vinylimidazole‐based asymmetric ion pair comonomers ( IPC s) which are free from nonpolymerizable counter ions have been synthesized, characterized and polymerized by free radical polymerization (FRP), atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), and reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) mediated polymerizations in solution and by dispersion polymerization in water. The asymmetric nature of IPC s is due to the fact that cationic component of these IPCs is derived from vinylimidazole (VIm) and anionic component is derived from either styrenesulfonate (SS) or 2‐acrylamido‐2‐methyl‐1‐propanesulfonate. Although under ATRP, conversions are either very low or negligible, FRP and RAFT produces polymers with high to moderate monomer conversions but with different solubility characteristics. This investigation provides insight to the polymerization behavior of each component of the asymmetric IPCs and also its effects on composition and solubility characteristics of the resulting polymers. The IPCs studied here are high temperature ionic liquid and thus the polymers synthesized from these IPCs are highly ionic in nature and possess very strong intermolecular interactions which makes some of these IPC based polymers completely insoluble in organic and aqueous solvents. This highly ionic interaction is exploited to synthesize ionically crosslinked PMMA. MMA on copolymerization with 5–6 mol % of IPC yielded copolymer which is insoluble in common organic solvents like THF, DMF, etc., unlike homo PMMA. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym.
