Dispersion of waves in a plane acoustic layer with flexible elastic walls

A plane acoustic layer bounded by elastic membranes is considered. Dispersion relations for symmetric and antisymmetric waves are derived. The limit behavior of dispersion curves is investigated for wave numbers tending to zero and to infinity. With the use of the resulting asymptotic expansions, the two-point Pade approximations are constructed. The orthogonality relations for eigenmodes are presented.     

Features of light attenuation in crystals under violation of the Bouguer law

A computer simulation and measurements of the light transmittance of germanium and paratellurite crystals of different thickness were used to show that, at scattering probabilities of photons comparable to their absorption probabilities, the standard methods for calculating light extinction coefficients on the basis of the Bouguer law lead to rough errors in estimation of the optical quality of a material.     

Thermal conductivity of <Emphasis Type="Italic">n</Emphasis>-type Ge monocrystals

The pyroelectric method is used to demonstrate the dependence of the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity coefficients of n-type germanium monocrystals on the concentration of antimony impurities (6 × 10¹³, 1.3 × 10¹⁴, 1.7 × 10¹⁴, 3.7 × 10¹⁴, 6 × 10¹⁴ cm^?3). The investigated samples are cut from germanium crystals grown from a melt using the Czochralski method with crystallographic orientation [111].     

Thermal characteristics of paratellurite single crystals by the rectangular thermal wave method

The study of the thermal characteristics of bulk nonferroelectric materials with low heat conductivity coefficient by the pyroelectrical rectangular thermal wave is shown to need the solution of the problem of the thermal conductivity for a three-layer system. The thermal characteristics of a paratellurite crystal with various crystallographic directions were studied. The heat conductivity coefficient is found to depend on the crystallographic direction.     

Dependence of growth of the phases of multiphase binary systems on the diffusion parameters

A mathematical model of the diffusion interaction of a binary system with several phases on the equilibrium phase diagram is presented. The theoretical and calculated dependences of the layer thickness of each phase in the multiphase diffusion zone on the isothermal annealing time and the ratio of the diffusion parameters in the neighboring phases with an unlimited supply of both components were constructed. The phase formation and growth in the diffusion zone during “reactive” diffusion corresponds to the equilibrium state diagram for two components, and the order of their appearance in the diffusion zone depends only on the ratio of the diffusion parameters in the phases themselves and on the duration of the incubation periods. The dependence of phase appearance on the incubation periods, annealing time, and difference in the movement rates of the components across the interface boundaries was obtained. An example of the application of the model for processing the experimental data on phase growth in a two-component three-phase system was given.     

Matching of asymptotic models in scattering of a plane acoustic wave by an elastic cylindrical shell

Scattering of a plane harmonic acoustic wave by an elastic cylindrical shell is considered. The procedure based on matching of asymptotic models is developed. The long-wave models (the Kirchhoff-Love theory (or its refinement) and the long-wave high-frequency approximation) are exploited in the vicinities of zero frequency and thickness resonance frequencies, whilst the model of a fluid-loaded flat elastic layer is utilized outside the aforementioned vicinities. Comparison with the exact solution demonstrates that the proposed approach is highly efficient for total synthesis of the scattered pressure as well as for uniform approximation of the resonant curves associated with partial modes.
