Generation of C6H4+* by laser vaporization of magnesium with o-C6H4F2 in argon carrier gas

A route to efficient generation of C6H4+*, potentially the benzyne radical cation, is presented. Laser vaporization of Mg+* and supersonic expansion in helium doped with o-, m-, or p-C6H4F2 yields, among other ions, o-, m-, p-C6H4F2Mg+* complexes, but no C6H4+*. Collision-induced dissociation experiments show that the o-C6H4F2Mg+* complex can be converted into C6H4+* in a mildly energetic collision, with a center-of-mass energy around 1-2 eV. These conditions can also be reached in the ion source when argon is used as a carrier gas. In this way, mass spectra containing the desired m/z 76 peak, i.e. C6H4+*, are obtained.     

Plutonium concentration distribution in bed load sediment samples along the Romanian sector of the Danube river and the Black Sea coast

The concentrations of²³⁸Pu and^{239, 240}Pu were determined in 12 sediment samples collected from the bed of the Romanian Danube river and Black Sea coast during June–September 1994. After the sample material has been properly prepared and²⁴²Pu tracer added, plutonium was separated from americium and curium by anion exchange. After electrodeposition on stainless steel discs the elements were counted with an -spectrometry system with silicon surface-barrier detectors. The^{239, 240}Pu concentrations range between 150 and 800 mBq kg^–1 dry, while the²³⁸Pu concentrations rise up to max 150 mBq kg^–1 dry. Although the chemical yields are rather low (51%) we appreciate the results as valuable since they report for the first time the distribution of the plutonium contamination along the Danube river and the Black Sea coast-Romanian sector.     

The enthalpies of combustion and formation of <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis>-α-glutamic and 6-aminohexanoic acids

Summary The energies of combustion of crystalline L-α-glutamic and 6-aminohexanoic acids were measured in a static bomb adiabatic calorimeter, in pure oxygen at 3040 kPa. Corrections were made for the heats due to the ignition of sample and for the nitric acid formation. The derived enthalpies of formation for L-α -glutamic and 6-aminohexanoic acids are Δ_fH_cr⁰= -1002.6±1.1 kJ mol^-1and Δ_fH_cr⁰= -641.6±1.2 kJ mol^-1, respectively. The data of enthalpy of formation are compared with literature values and with estimated values by means of group additivity, using parameters recommended by Domalski and Hearing.     

Synthesis of Some Selectively N-Protected (1S,2S)-p-Nitrophenylserinol–Based Diamino-1,3-dioxanes and Tripodands

The unconventional methodology for the non-epimerizable cycloacetalization of optically active (1S,2S)-2-amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)propane-1,3-diol (p-nitrophenylserinol) (condensed H₂SO₄ 96% as solvent and catalyst, i.e., sulfuric transacetalization) producing (2R,4S,5S) diamino-1,3-dioxanes was enlarged by the use of N-protected forms of 2,2-dimethoxyethylamine (DMEA, aminoacetaldehyde dimethylacetal). Conversely, N-protected derivatives of p-nitrophenylserinol were successfully cyclocondensed with DMEA in the same sulfuric conditions. N-Functionalization of DMEA upon treatment with trimesic acid trichloride and cyanuric chloride yielded the corresponding triple amide and melamine, respectively. Their adapted sulfuric transacetalization in triplicate in reaction with arylserinols (aryl: phenyl, p-nitrophenyl) afforded a new series of optically active tripodands.     

Synthesis and antibacterial properties of new phenothiazinyl- and phenyl-nitrones

The synthesis of new phenothiazinyl- and phenyl-nitrones under classical versus microwave heating conditions is described. Better yields were obtained under microwave irradiation in the condensation reactions of phenothiazyl-carbaldehyde with hydroxylamine derivatives. The structures of the new phenothiazinyl-nitrones were assigned on the basis of MS, FT–IR and NMR spectra. The new nitrones and some known phenyl-nitrones were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activity against several Candida species, Gram negative bacteria, such as E. coli, Citrobacter spp, Morganella spp, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae (± ESBL), Proteus spp, Acinetobacter spp and the Gram positive bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, with moderate results.     

On Weyl structures

We characterize the relation between the geometrical properties of Weyl manifolds and the algebraic properties of the Weyl algebras (§1) and the deformation algebras associated to two conformal Weyl connections (§2). The last section is devoted to the study of the Weyl-Lyra algebras associated to a conformal Weyl connection and a conformal semisymmetric connection.     

A generalization of quantum teleportation and splitting of entanglement via local cloning

In the original one-to-one teleportation protocol of Bennett et al. [1], an observer, Alice, transmits the information of a d-level system to another observer, Bob, with perfect fidelity, by using a maximally entangled state. We introduce a generalization called the many-to-many teleportation, where the information is sent from N observers to M receivers situated at different locations. One of the most interesting applications of quantum cloning is the symmetric broadcasting of entanglement proposed by Buzek et al. [2]. We propose the splitting of entanglement based on a local optimal universal asymmetric cloning machine and, then, by applying the Peres-Horodecki criterion, we analyze the inseparability of the final states.
