Accelerating the calculations of binary detour phase method by integrating both CUDA and Matlab programming for GPU's parallel computations

The availability of state of art GPGPU cards can play a promising role in accelerating the calculations of computer generated holograms (CGH) where one of the main problems of generating such holograms is the need for massive amount of calculations. Both CUDA and Matlab can be used alone to fulfill this purpose but using both at the same time gives a number of benefits. This paper is dedicated to present a performance study of applying Fermi-Architecture CUDA-enabled GPGPU card for speeding up the calculations of binary detour phase holograms using both Matlab and CUDA programming.     

Peculiar reaction behavior of 1,3-oxathiolan-5-one toward various reagents: Molecular modeling studies and in vitro antioxidant and cytotoxicity evaluation

Chemical reactivity of 2-methyl-2-phenyl-1,3-oxathiolan-5-one (1) toward various reagents such as hydroxyaldehyde, ketone, α,β unsaturated carbonyl compounds, heterocyclic amine, hydrazine, and hydrazide to give unpredicative opened and fused heterocyclic systems was investigated. Moreover, treatment of compound 1 with bromoester to afford the respective fused system, 2-methyl-2-phenylfuro[3,2-d][1,3]oxathiol-5(6H)-one (6) was implemented. Besides, ¹H–¹H nuclear overhauser effect spectroscopy was used for full confirmation of the compound 19. In addition, the density functional theory modeling study outcomes were discussed and all of the new synthesized compounds were evaluated as antioxidants and cytotoxicity assay against hepatocellular carcinoma cell line.     

Asymptotics and Formulas for Cubic Exponential Sums

Several asymptotic expansions and formulas for cubic exponential sums are derived. The expansions are most useful when the cubic coefficient is in a restricted range. This generalizes previous results in the quadratic case and helps to clarify how to numerically approximate cubic exponential sums and how to obtain upper bounds for them in some cases.     

Freezing transition, characteristic polynomials of random matrices, and the Riemann zeta function

We argue that the freezing transition scenario, previously explored in the statistical mechanics of 1/f-noise random energy models, also determines the value distribution of the maximum of the modulus of the characteristic polynomials of large N×N random unitary matrices. We postulate that our results extend to the extreme values taken by the Riemann zeta function ζ(s) over sections of the critical line s=1/2+it of constant length and present the results of numerical computations in support. Our main purpose is to draw attention to possible connections between the statistical mechanics of random energy landscapes, random-matrix theory, and the theory of the Riemann zeta function.     

Vistas in the field of 1,3-oxathiolan-5-ones: Synthesis and chemical reactivity

This review covers many reports of the applications of multicomponent domino reactions (MDRs) in the synthesis of novel stereocontrolled mercapto-heterocycles from the 1972 up to the end of 2016. The reported approaches were employed for modifications of the oxathiolanone core for new construction of a mercapto-heterocycles scaffold from mercaptoacetyl transfer agent with various reagents.     

Efficacy of Precocene I from Desmosstachya bipinnata as an Effective Bioactive Molecules against the Spodoptera litura Fab. and Its Impact on Eisenia fetida Savigny

The sustainability of agroecosystems are maintained with agro-chemicals. However, after more than 80 years of intensive use, many pests and pathogens have developed resistance to the currently used chemistries. Thus, we explored the isolation and bioactivity of a chemical compound, Precocene I, isolated from the perennial grass, Desmosstachya bipinnata (L.) Stapf. Fractions produced from chloroform extractions showed suppressive activity on larvae of Spodoptera litura (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), the Oriental armyworm. Column chromatography analyses identified Precocene I confirmed using FTIR, HPLC and NMR techniques. The bioactivity of the plant-extracted Dp-Precocene I was compared to a commercially produced Precocene I standard. The percentage of mortality observed in insects fed on plant tissue treated with 60 ppm Db-Precocene I was 97, 87 and 81, respectively, for the second, third and fourth instar larvae. The LC₅₀ value of third instars was 23.2 ppm. The percentages of survival, pupation, fecundity and egg hatch were altered at sub-lethal concentrations of Db-Precocene I (2, 4, 6 and 8 ppm, sprays on castor leaves). The observed effects were negatively correlated with concentration, with a decrease in effects as concentrations increased. Distinct changes in feeding activity and damage to gut tissues were observed upon histological examination of S. litura larvae after the ingestion of Db-Precocene I treatments. Comparative analyses of mortality on a non-target organism, the earthworm, Eisenia fetida, at equal concentrations of Precocene I and two chemical pesticides (cypermethrin and monocrotophos) produced mortality only with the chemical pesticide treatments. These results of Db-Precocene I as a highly active bioactive compound support further research to develop production from the grass D. bipinnata as an affordable resource for Precocene-I-based insecticides.     

Excited states dipole moments and polarizabilities of uracil and cytosine 5-halo derivatives

Dipole moments and polarizabilities of different excited states of uracil and cytosine 5-halo derivatives have been calculated using solvent shift methods and CNDO/S calculations. The results are discussed in relation to different solute–solvent interactions and the nature of the electronic transition.
