The extraction of Al(III) and Zn(II) from an aqueous solution with two water-in-oil microemulsions, one containing di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (DEHPA), was investigated to aid the understanding of the role of the extractant and the metal specific characteristics in the mechanism of microemulsion extraction. The extraction of Al with the DEHPA microemulsion increased by a factor of about 10 with respect to that in the conventional DEHPA system, whereas the extraction of Zn was lower than that in the single DEHPA system. Extraction with the DEHPA-free microemulsion was very low, showing that metal ion solubilization was not important in the mechanism of microemulsion extraction. It is proposed that the effect of the mixed microemulsion on the metal distribution coefficient is the result of the balance between a decrease in the complexation reaction yield due to the interaction between butanol and DEHPA, and the adsorption of the metal complex at the macro- and microinterfaces. The former leads to a decrease in Zn(II) extraction and the latter to Al(III) extraction synergism. Copyright 2000 Academic Press. 相似文献

An acoustic analysis of laughter produced by congenitally deaf and normally hearing college students

Relatively few empirical data are available concerning the role of auditory experience in nonverbal human vocal behavior, such as laughter production. This study compared the acoustic properties of laughter in 19 congenitally, bilaterally, and profoundly deaf college students and in 23 normally hearing control participants. Analyses focused on degree of voicing, mouth position, air-flow direction, temporal features, relative amplitude, fundamental frequency, and formant frequencies. Results showed that laughter produced by the deaf participants was fundamentally similar to that produced by the normally hearing individuals, which in turn was consistent with previously reported findings. Finding comparable acoustic properties in the sounds produced by deaf and hearing vocalizers confirms the presumption that laughter is importantly grounded in human biology, and that auditory experience with this vocalization is not necessary for it to emerge in species-typical form. Some differences were found between the laughter of deaf and hearing groups; the most important being that the deaf participants produced lower-amplitude and longer-duration laughs. These discrepancies are likely due to a combination of the physiological and social factors that routinely affect profoundly deaf individuals, including low overall rates of vocal fold use and pressure from the hearing world to suppress spontaneous vocalizations. 相似文献

We demonstrate spin-exchange optical pumping of 129Xe atoms with our newly made laser system. The new laser system was prepared to provide higher laser power required for the stable operation of spin maser oscillations in the 129Xe EDM experiment. We studied the optimum cell temperature and pumping laser power to improve the degree of 129Xe spin polarization. The best performance was achieved at the cell temperature of 100 °C with the presently available laser power of 1 W. The results show that a more intense laser is required for further improvement of the spin polarization at higher cell temperatures in our experiment. 相似文献

Binding of poly(amido amine) dendrimer to sodium hyaluronate (NaHA) in aqueous 0.25 M NaCl solution has been investigated by static light scattering. It was observed that the apparent weight-average molecular weight and the radius of gyration increase with the ratio of NH(2) terminal groups in the dendrimer to the carboxylate groups in the NaHA, [NH(2)]/[COO(-)]. Up to [NH(2)]/[COO(-)]=31, the observed variation of molecular weight was reproduced by the "average binding" model, where an average number of dendrimers binds to each NaHA chain. Based on the "critical binding" model, the maximum number, n(max), of dendrimers which can bind to a NaHA chain was calculated to be n(max)=300 for a solution of [NH(2)]/[COO(-)]=56. The obtained value corresponds to the binding of one dendrimer per 1.5 repeating units on a NaHA chain. It is suggested from the observed radius of gyration that, while the dendrimer-NaHA complexes of [NH(2)]/[COO(-)] up to 5 maintain a wormlike character similar to NaHA without bound dendrimers, those of [NH(2)]/[COO(-)] above 10 behave like rigid rods. It is concluded that the hydrogen-bonding interaction, besides the electrostatic interaction, should play an important role in the formation of the NaHA-dendrimer complexes. 相似文献

A new class of polyamide-pyrazolones was synthesized by the vinylogous nucleophilic substitution polymerization, which was followed by rearrangement, from 2,2′-p-phenylenebis(4-ethoxymethylene-5-oxazolone) and aromatic dihydrazines. Solution polymerization was carried out in polar aprotic solvents under mild conditions to yield polymers having inherent viscosities in the range of 0.5–1.2 quantitatively. The polymer derived from bis(4-hydrazinophenyl) sulfone was readily soluble in strongly polar solvents, while that from bis(4-hydrazinophenyl)methane was partially soluble or swelled in these solvents. The polyamide-pyrazolones which are presumed to contain some intermediate oxazolone structure showed a low level of thermal stability. 相似文献
