Novel χ(3)-based nonlinear polarization interferometer is theoretically and experimentally investigated. It enables efficient spatial and temporal filtering of femtosecond pulses via generation of cross-polarized wave. By changing the interferometer parameters different beam shapes can be obtained.  相似文献

We present an experimental demonstration of a renewed set up, with respect to the one described in [A. Jullien et al, Opt. Lett. 30, 920 (2005)], that enables more reliable and robust performances in the increase of the contrast ratio (CR) of energetic femtosecond pulses. The new approach is based on the use of two successive crystals situated at optimum position that generate cross polarized waves whose individual effect interferes constructively. This arrangement overcomes the limitation of the single crystal schemes for temporal cleaning – the early saturation of the transmission efficiency, previously observed when either using a relatively thick crystal or increasing intensities up to its damage threshold. A theoretical model that predicts the output CR is developed for the first time. It shows that the CR depends on the initial CR and the extinction ratio of the polarizers used. The measured temporal CR 10-10 is in accordance with theoretical predictions. PACS 42.65.-k; 42.65.Re; 42.65.Jx  相似文献

We describe a method which enables, for the first time through a single measurements, the determination of the values and relative signs of the individual nonzero elements of the third order susceptibility tensor. It makes use of a three pulse transient phase grating technique operating in the Raman Nath regime. This technique is applied to a standard transparent optical glass; the adequacy of the Kleinman symmetry relation confirms the nonresonant character of the electronic nonlinear process involved.  相似文献

The elemental composition and the surface morphology of thin films grown by laser ablation of barium titanate with femtosecond pulses at 620 nm laser wavelength have been systematically studied according to the experimental pulsed-laser deposition parameters : laser energy density, oxygen pressure, substrate temperature, target–substrate distance and substrate position (in- and off-axis geometry). Firstly, even at high temperature (700 °C), the deposits consist of coalesced particles up to 1-μm in size, mixed in a poorly crystallised tetragonal BaTiO3 thin film. The particles formed in femtosecond pulsed-laser deposition induce a high surface roughness, which is observed whatever the experimental growth conditions and does not correspond to the droplets often observed during laser ablation in the nanosecond regime. As shown by plasma expansion dynamics, these particles propagate toward the substrate in the plasma plume with a low velocity, and are assumed to be produced by gas-phase reactions. Moreover, the cationic concentration evaluated through the Ba/Ti ratio strongly depends on the oxygen pressure in the ablation chamber and the angular position of the substrate along the normal to the target at laser impact. Indeed, the films appear to be enriched in the heavy element (Ba) when the substrate is located at high angular deviation. This fact is correlated to an increase in the lighter species (i.e. Ti) in the central part of the plasma plume. The evolution of a fs laser generated plume on copper was studied by dual laser pulses. The plume generated by the first pulse (620 nm) was excited by the second, delayed pulse (310 nm). The actual state of the plume was monitored by detecting the intensities of the emitted light and the reflected delayed pulse from the interaction range, i.e. 0–150 μm above the surface. Four peaks were observed in the 0–1400 ps time range and assigned to appearance of electrons, ions, atomic species and nanoparticles. Accordingly, the timing of the creation and ejection of these species was determined. By integrating the intensity of the nanoparticle peak, the production yield of the nanoparticles and its dependence on the ablating laser fluence was calculated. The ablation products were deposited on a Si substrate, too, and analyzed by atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results of the deposition and the dual-pulse experiments are in good agreement with the theory. PACS 52.38.Mf; 79.20.Ds; 61.80.Ba  相似文献

Subtle atomic motion in a Bi crystal excited by a 35 fs-laser pulse has been recovered from the transient reflectivity of an optical probe measured with an accuracy of 10(-5). Analysis shows that a novel effect reported here-an initial negative drop in reflectivity-relates to a delicate coherent displacement of atoms by the polarization force during the pulse. We also show that reflectivity oscillations with a frequency coinciding with that of cold Bi are related to optical phonons excited by the electron temperature gradient through electron-phonon coupling.  相似文献

We take advantage of nonlinear properties associated with chi(3) tensor elements in BaF2 cubic crystal to improve the temporal contrast of femtosecond laser pulses. The technique presented is based on cross-polarized wave (XPW) generation. We have obtained a transmission efficiency of 10% and 10(-10) contrast with an input pulse in the millijoule range. This filter does not affect the spectral shape or the phase of the cleaned pulse. It also acts as an efficient spatial filter. In this method the contrast enhancement is limited only by the extinction ratio of the polarization discrimination device.  相似文献

We present a new type of nonlinear mirror based on the generation of a cross-polarized wave through a nonresonant electronic third-order process. It is characterized by a reflection coefficient that depends on the input intensity. Its behavior results from the interference between the nonlinearly generated cross-polarized wave and a pi/2 phase-retarded wave. This setup has a lot of advantages: it does not require any phase matching, it is achromatic and suitable for femtosecond pulses, linear losses are easily adjustable, and the overall behavior is predictable. The device has been experimentally tested using BaF2 and YVO4 crystals.  相似文献

We argue for a different physical interpretation of the results given in the recent Letter by Chvykov et al. [Opt. Lett.31, 1456 (2006)] in which a double nonlinear crystal scheme for cross-polarized wave generation is analyzed. We discuss the most important factors that explain the origin of the two-crystal scheme's increased efficiency, namely, the Kerr lensing effect and a Gouy phase shift. The position and orientation of the second crystal relative to the first one are unambiguously defined; related effects are illustrated by already published works on the subject.  相似文献
