Selective S-methylation of highly fluorinated thiocarbamates

A series of new S-methyl O-fluoroalkyl N-alkyl(aryl)imidothiocarbonates were prepared by S-methylation of various fluoroalkylated thiocarbamates with methyl iodide in the presence of cesium carbonate and tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at room temperature. As expected from the mostly soft electrophilic alkyl halide (MeI), no isomer products derived from N-methylation were detected. The products were characterized by spectroscopic (¹H, ¹³C and ¹⁹F) NMR, infrared, and high-resolution mass spectrometric techniques.     

Improved interface conditions for a non-overlapping domain decomposition of a non-convex polygonal domain

We propose a local improvement of domain decomposition methods which fits with the singularities occurring in the solutions of elliptic equations in polygonal domains. This short presentation focuses on a model elliptic problem with the decomposition of a non-convex polygonal domain into convex polygonal subdomains. After explaining the strategy and the theoretical design of adapted interface conditions at the corner, we present numerical experiments which show that these new interface conditions satisfy some optimality properties. Weighted Dunkl transform inequalities and application on radial Besov spaces

In Dunkl theory on $\mathbb R ^d$ which generalizes classical Fourier analysis, we prove first weighted inequalities for certain Hardy-type averaging operators. In particular, we deduce for specific choices of the weights the $d$ -dimensional Hardy inequalities whose constants are sharp and independent of $d$ . Second, we use the weight characterization of the Hardy operator to prove weighted Dunkl transform inequalities. As consequence, we obtain Pitt’s inequality which gives an integrability theorem for this transform on radial Besov spaces.

A local boundary condition coupled to a finite element method to compute guided modes of optical fibres under the weak guidance assumptions

An efficient method coupling a local boundary condition to a finite element technique is proposed to compute guided modes of optical fibres under the weak guidance assumptions. This method is designed to provide accurate solutions for optical fibres with no restriction on their shape as well as on their refractive index profile. Phytochemicals,antioxidant, anti-acetyl-cholinesterase,and antimicrobial activities of decoction and infusion of Pelargonium graveolens

Abstract

In Tunisia, Pelargonium graveolens is widely consumed as a food aromatizing hydrosol. Recent studies have shown the potential of plant solvent-free extracts as food and pharmaceutical natural additives. Accordingly, in this study, we investigate the phenolic content, the volatile fractions of green P. graveolens extracts such as infusion and decoction, and we evaluate their biological activities. The total phenolic content of the infusion (27.05?mg GAE/gDM) is significantly different from that of decoction (31.2?mg GAE/gDM). The GC-MS analysis identified about twenty volatile components in both extracts. The DPPH inhibition and the β-carotene bleaching tests of the infusion and the decoction had considerable results. Besides, infusion and decoction exhibited a relatively high anti-acetyl-cholinesterase activity and a considerable antimicrobial activity against S. aureus, among three tested pathogenic bacteria.     

Dynamic stability and bifurcation in a bundle flow

In roll draft operation mechanisms, the behavior of floating fibers is known to cause the thickness variation in output fiber bundles. Despite the significance of this phenomenon, few studies have sought to explain the underlying mechanism theoretically. We analyzed the dynamic characteristics of bundle flow in roll draft systems, based on a model of bundle flow. By applying both linear stability and phase plane analyses, we investigated an occurrence of draft waves. Our results suggest that the principles of linear stability can be applied to analyze bundle flow dynamics. The nonlinearity of bundle flow, however, reveals that the stable fixed point disappears when draft ratio changes, which in turn implies that the topological structure of the phase portrait changes as the process parameter is varied: a bifurcation property. As the process parameter increases above certain critical values, fixed points are destroyed and oscillations within the limit cycle occur. Also the system oscillates at a critical draw ratio harmonically, indicating the onset of a Hopf bifurcation, which corresponds to the draft wave. The phase portrait converges to a shell-shaped curve if the process parameter increases further. The results of this study also show that there is a specific draft ratio below which flow is always stable.     

Growth Parameters,Photosynthetic Performance,and Biochemical Characterization of Newly Isolated Green Microalgae in Response to Culture Condition Variations

This work aimed to characterize two native microalgal strains newly isolated from South Mediterranean areas and identified as Chlorella sorokiniana ES3 and Neochloris sp. AM2. The growth properties and biochemical composition of these microalgae were evaluated in different culture media (Algal, BG-11, f/2, and Conway). Among the tested media, nitrate- and phosphate-rich Algal medium provided the maximum biomass productivities (85.5 and 111.5 mg l^?1 day^?1 for C. sorokiniana and Neochloris sp., respectively), while the nitrate- and phosphate-deficient f/2 medium resulted in the highest lipid productivities (24.1 and 35.8 mg l^?1 day^?1 for C. sorokiniana and Neochloris sp., respectively). The physiological state of both microalgae was investigated under different light and temperature levels using the pulse amplitude-modulated fluorometry. The better photosynthetic efficiency of C. sorokiniana was obtained at 23 °C with a light saturation of 156 μE m^?2 s^?1, while that of Neochloris sp. was achieved at 15 °C with a light saturation of 151 μE m^?2 s^?1. The analysis of fatty acid profile and biodiesel parameters revealed that C. sorokiniana, cultivated in Algal and f/2 media, can be considered as a suitable candidate for high-quality biodiesel production.
