Excitation of metal spectra in combined glow discharge

Consideration is given to the special features of the excitation of spectra of metals (Ag, Au, Fe, Hg, Pt, and Sb) that manifest themselves in investigating spectral sources with combined glow discharge (glow discharge and capillary discharge). It is established that the proposed method for introducing a substance into a plasma makes it possible to realize two fundamentally different regimes: without evaporation and with complete evaporation and matrix atomization. It is shown that a spectral source of combined glow discharge with a nonequilibrium plasma has significant advantages for the most important analytical characteristics over quasi-equilibrium combined discharge at atmospheric pressure. The gold and platinum sensitivity in combined glow discharge is 10⁻⁷%, and the reproducibility of spectral determinations is 0.001–0.100, depending on the measurement range. A fractional separation of elements that makes it possible to analyze the phase composition of substances, particularly metals, with high sensitivity is revealed in glow discharge. Lasing of iodine in the fullerene-oxygen-iodine system

The possibility of lasing in the fullerene-oxygen-iodine system with optical excitation of fullerene is studied. Laser radiation with an energy of 25 mJ and a pulse duration of 5–10 ms is obtained.     

Terpenoids of the essential oil ofLedum hypoleucum

The chemical composition of the terpenoids of the essential oil ofLedum hypoleucum growing in the Far East has been studied. It differs fromL. palustre by a larger amount of compounds of the bisabolane series in the essential oil. Among the monoterpenoids, p-cymene, -phellandrene, and ascaridole predominate. The main components of the sesquiterpenoids are ar-curcumene and ar-turmerone, now found for the first time inLedum essential oils.Tomsk State Medical Institute. Methane conversion with carbon dioxide on nickel aluminides

The catalytic activity of several samples based on nickel aluminides in methane conversion with carbon dioxide was studied. Nickel aluminides were prepared by the method of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. The Ni₃Al system containing the nickel metal phase exhibited high activity at temperatures above 1073 K. The systems based on Ni₂Al₃ and NiAl only containing intermetallic compound phases were inactive.     

Reaction of bis(triethylgermyl)mercury with mercurated acid nitriles

Conclusions The exchange reaction of the radicals between bis(triethylgermyl)mercury and mercury derivatives R₂Hg (R=C(Me₂)CN, C(CF₃)₂CN, CH(CN)₂) leads to the formation of unstable Et₃GeHgR compounds. Reactivity of N-alkyl derivatives of hydroxylamine in decomposition of 4-nitrophenyl diethylphosphonate in water and in cetyltrimethylammonium bromide micelles

Neutral forms of hydroxylamine, N-methylhydroxylamine, and N,N-dimethylhydroxylamine are typical α-nucleophiles in water. In comparison with aryl anions of similar basicity their rate of reaction in the decomposition of 4-nitrophenyl diethylphosphonate is increased by about 10² times. Decomposition of the substrate is accelerated in cetyltrimethylammonium bromide micelles (about 4 to 30 fold). Hydroxylamine and its N-alkyl derivatives are the most effective low basicity nucleophiles. Structures of 2-hydroxypyridine and its vinyl derivatives

The PMR, Raman, and UV absorption spectra of 2-hydroxypyridine and its vinyl derivatives were investigated. Their electrochemical reduction was studied, and a quantum-chemical analysis of them was performed. It was concluded that the structure of 2-hydroxypyridine in proton-donor solvents is mesomeric, and its wave function, to a first approximation, is a linear combination of the wave functions of the 2-pyridone and zwitterion models. The contribution of the wave functions of each of the models depends substantially on the concentration of the solution and the nature of the solvent. An assumption was made regarding the presence of dynamic conjugation between the vinyl group and the ring in vinyl derivatives of 2-hydroxypyridine.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 1, pp. 95–102 January, 1972.     

Effect of DNA and bivalent metal ions on the interaction of thermostable DNA polymerase <Emphasis Type="Italic">Tte</Emphasis> with dNTPs

The interaction of DNA polymerase Tte from Thermus thermophilus B35 with dUTP analog containing a fluorescein residue bound to C(5) of the base (Flu-dUTP) was studied by fluorescence titration. The dissociation constants of the enzyme—substrate complexes in the absence and in the presence of a DNA duplex containing an extended template and bivalent metal ions and the kinetic parameters of polymerization by DNA polymerase Tte in the presence of Flu-dUTP were determined. __________ Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk.
