Preconcentration of mercury using duolite GT-73 in the analysis of water samples by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry.

Duolite GT-73 resin was used for the preconcentration of Hg(II) from hydrochloric acid media as well as separation of the analyte from diversity of the co-existing metal ions (Al, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn) in off-line column operation. Due to the high affinity of the resin to the transition metals, Hg was adsorbed alongside with the foreign metals investigated. A complete release of the concomitant metals from the resin without the desorption of Hg was carried out using solutions of HCl and HNO3. A quantitative recovery of Hg was obtained by digestion of the resin using a H2SO4 and H2O2 mixture in an open-vessel system. An enrichment factor of 40 was achieved. The devised procedure was applied for the determination of Hg(II) in tap-water samples.     

Synthesis and solid-state structures of new cyclophane host molecules

Five new cyclophane host molecules (corrals) are prepared by linking together two α,α′-di(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1,4-diisopropylbenzene or α,α′-di(3,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-1,4-diisopropylbenzene units with two permethylene spacers. Three small cyclophane hosts (boxes) are synthesized by cyclization of α,α′-di(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1,4-diisopropylbenzene with di(bromomethyl)benzene compounds. Solid-state structures of one corral and one box are reported.     

Application of organolithium and related reagents in synthesis,Part XII. Synthesis of phenyl- and pyridylpyridopyridazinones and their derivatives

Summary The preparation of the pyridazinones10a,10b,11a,11b, and12a,12b from the ketoamides7,8, and9 and hydrazine hydrate is described. It was found that from ketoamides8b and9b in addition to the expected pyridopyridazinones11b and12b also aminopyridopyridazines14 and15 were formed and that ketoamide7b gave exclusively aminopyridopyridazine13. The pyridopyridazinones10b,11b, and12b were alkylated with alkyl iodides.

Anwendungen von Organolithium und verwandten Reagenzien in organischen Synthesen, Teil XII. Synthese von Phenyl- und Pyridylpyridopyridazinonen und ihren Derivaten

Zusammenfassung Die Darstellung der Pyridazinone10a,10b,11a,11b und12a,12b aus Ketoamiden7,8 und9 und Hydrazinhydrat wird beschrieben. Es wurde festgestellt, daß aus Ketoamiden8b und9b außer den erwarteten Pyridopyridazinonen11b und12b auch Aminopyridopyridazine14 und15 enstanden und daß das Ketoamid7b ausschließlich ins Aminopyridopyridazin13 überführt wurde. Die Pyridopyridazinone10b,11b und12b wurden mit Alkyljodiden alkyliert.

     

Investigation of the tensile properties of “epoxy resin‐monomer” systems using cationic UV‐crosslinkable blends

The compatibility of cycloaliphatic and aromatic multifunctional epoxides with several epoxide resins allows the development of a wide range of cationic radiation‐curable formulations. The influence of different “epoxide resin‐monomer” systems UV‐cured in the presence of suitable cationic photoinitiators on the resulting physicochemical film properties was studied, and the results are stated. Synthesis and metal ion complexing properties of novel chromogenic cryptands

Four novel chromogenic benzocryptands and one side-armed chromogenic cryptand have been synthesized and their complexing abilities for alkali metal cations are described.     

Tunable negative index metamaterial employing in-plane switching mode at terahertz frequencies

We analysed the response of a tunable liquid crystal metamaterial transducer in the terahertz frequency range. Tunability of scattering parameters is achieving by an in-plane switching (IPS) effect. The metamaterial structure is based on Ω-shape resonators. A full-wave analysis technique based on the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method was performed using the QuickWave 3D electromagnetic solver. Terahertz transmission properties of the metamaterial structure can be controlled by the director of the liquid crystal layer. The effective refractive index for operation frequency varies from negative to positive values. A novel approach to switching of metamaterial transducer by IPS mode is presented.     

Application of the okahara cyclization to the preparation of crown ethers with aromatic units

A series of crown ethers with single benzene, naphthalene, biphenyl and binaphthyl units are prepared by the intramolecular Okahara cyclization of appropriate symmetrical diols. The method is used to synthesize new crown ether compounds and to prepare previously-reported crown ethers in improved yields.
