Probe measurements in a discharge with liquid nonmetallic electrodes in air at atmospheric pressure

Discharges with liquid nonmetallic electrodes of much interest for applications are investigated. It is found that a dc discharge between two streams of tap water in air at atmospheric pressure is stable at a currentof 40≤I≤100 mA. The discharge exists in the diffuse (volume) form with a relatively low current density (∼0.2 A/cm²) and a high (above one kilovolt) voltage drop across the air gap (∼1 cm) between the water electrodes. The current density and voltage depend only slightly on the discharge current. Probe measurements show that three regions can be distinguished in the discharge: two electrode regions (1–2 mm in length) and a discharge column with a constant electric field of ≈0.8 kV/cm (i.e., E/N≈20 Td, because the gas in the discharge is heated up to 1500–2000 K). The average electric field strength near the electrodes is E≈2–3×10³ V/cm (E/N≈60–80 Td). The charged particle density in the column is n ∼ 10¹² cm⁻³. The probe measurements of n agree with the previous microwave absorption measurements. The water vapor concentration in the column is also estimated from probe measurements.     

Resistance of composite flywheel rim to radial tensile stresses from centrifugal forces based on results of pure bending of a rim segment

A method is proposed for evaluating the resistance of a flywheel rim to radial stresses in free rotation. The method is based on loading a rim segment in pure bending and calculating the limiting moment and the corresponding limiting angular velocity. Applicability of the method is substantiated theoretically by investigating the similarity of the radial stress diagrams in rotation and pure bending. Conclusions In solution, the complexes M^II(NdA)₂ do not have a polynuclear structure. In the conditions studied, hydroxo polynuclear complexes including EDTA and M^II and Nd³⁺ ions are also not formed. Our results are not inconsistent with the hypothesis that the solid complex Ca(NdA)₂·17H₂O has a polynuclear structure and that the polynuclear character is successively weakened as Ca²⁺ is replaced by Sr²⁺ and Ba²⁺.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 6, pp. 1235–1239, June, 1977.     

Discharge with a liquid nonmetallic cathode (tap water) in atmospheric-pressure air flow

Discharge with a liquid nonmetallic cathode (tap water) in atmospheric-pressure air flow has been experimentally studied. This discharge is a modification of the previously investigated discharge with liquid nonmetallic electrodes. The design of the discharge unit has been described and some investigation results have been presented.     

Isomerisation of perfluoro(alkenyl vinyl ether) with terminal double bond

Isomerization of perfluoro(5-vinyloxy)pent-1-ene by potassium and cesium fluoride action was examined. Products of isomerization, a mixture of cis-and trans-isomers of vinyl ether with an internal double bond, and cyclic structures were identified by ¹⁹F NMR spectroscopy.
