Different parts of four edible medicinal plants (Casearia capitellata, Baccaurea motleyana, Phyllanthus pulcher and Strobilanthus crispus), indigenous to Malaysia, were extracted in different solvents, sequentially. The obtained 28 extracts were evaluated for their in vitro anticancer properties, using the MTS assay, on four human cancer cell lines: colon (HT-29), breast (MCF-7), prostate (DU-145) and lung (H460) cancers. The best anticancer activity was observed for the ethyl acetate (EA) extract of Casearia capitellata leaves on MCF-7 cell lines with IC?? 2.0 μg/mL and its methanolic (MeOH) extract showed an outstanding activity against lung cancer cell lines. Dichloromethane (DCM) extract of Phyllanthus pulcher aerial parts showed the highest anticancer activity against DU-145 cell lines, while significant activity was exhibited by DCM extract of Phyllanthus pulcher roots on colon cancer cell lines with IC50 value of 8.1 μg/mL. Total phenolic content (TPC) ranged over 1-40 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/g. For all the samples, highest yields of phenolics were obtained for MeOH extracts. Among all the extracts analyzed, the MeOH extracts of Strobilanthus crispus leaves exhibited the highest TPC than other samples (p < 0.05). This study shows that the nature of phenol determines its anticaner activity and not the number of phenols present.  相似文献

This paper is a preliminary attempt to compare the personality of O.R. workers with research scientists and other professionals in the management area. It is based on 16PF personality tests carried out on 56 U.K. operational research workers. The results indicate that this group has a personality profile which is significantly different from the published profiles of the professional groupings. The bacterial leaf blight (BLB) caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) is one of the most serious rice diseases, causing huge yield losses worldwide. Several technologies and approaches have been opted to reduce the damage; however, these have had limited success. Recently, scientists have been focusing their efforts on developing efficient and environmentally friendly nanobactericides for controlling bacterial diseases in rice fields. In the present study, a scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) were utilized to investigate the mode of actions of ginger EOs on the cell structure of Xoo. The ginger EOs caused the cells to grow abnormally, resulting in an irregular form with hollow layers, whereas the dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) treatment showed a typical rod shape for the Xoo cell. Ginger EOs restricted the growth and production of biofilms by reducing the number of biofilms generated as indicated by CLSM. Due to the instability, poor solubility, and durability of ginger EOs, a nanoemulsions approach was used, and a glasshouse trial was performed to assess their efficacy on BLB disease control. The in vitro antibacterial activity of the developed nanobactericides was promising at different concentration (50–125 µL/mL) tested. The efficacy was concentration-dependent. There was significant antibacterial activity recorded at higher concentrations. A glasshouse trial revealed that developed nanobactericides managed to suppress BLB disease severity effectively. Treatment at a concentration of 125 μL/mL was the best based on the suppression of disease severity index, AUDPC value, disease reduction (DR), and protection index (PI). Furthermore, findings on plant growth, physiological features, and yield parameters were significantly enhanced compared to the positive control treatment. In conclusion, the results indicated that ginger essential oils loaded-nanoemulsions are a promising alternative to synthetic antibiotics in suppressing Xoo growth, regulating the BLB disease, and enhancing rice yield under a glasshouse trial.  相似文献

The demand for petroleum-derived gasoline in the transportation sector is on the rise. For better knowledge of gasoline combustion in practical combustion systems, this study presents experimental measurements and numerical prediction of autoignition temperatures and extinction limits of six FACE (fuels for advanced combustion engines) gasoline fuels in counterflow flames. Extinction limits were measured at atmospheric pressures while the experiments for autoignition temperatures were carried out at atmospheric and high pressures. For atmospheric pressure experiment, the fuel stream consists of the pre-vaporized fuel diluted with nitrogen, while a condensed fuel configuration is used for ignition experiment at higher chamber pressures. The oxidizer stream is pure air. Autoignition temperatures of the tested fuels are nearly the same at atmospheric pressure, while a huge difference is observed as the pressure is increased. Unlike the ignition temperatures at atmospheric pressures, minor difference exists in the extinction limits of the tested fuels. Simulations were carried out using a recently developed gasoline surrogate model. Both multi-component and n-heptane/isooctane mixtures were used as surrogates for the simulations. Overall, the n-heptane/isooctane surrogate mixtures are consistently more reactive as compared the multi-component surrogate mixtures. Transport weighted enthalpy and radical index analysis was used to explain the differences in extinction strain rates for the various fuels.  相似文献

The kinetics of oxidative cracking of n-hexane to light olefins using the lattice oxygen of VOx/SrO-γAl2O3 catalysts has been investigated. Kinetic experiments were conducted in a CREC Riser Simulator (CERC: Chemical Reactor Engineering Center), which mimics fluidized bed reactors. The catalyst's performance is partly attributed to the moderate interaction between active VOx species and the SrO-γAl2O3 support. This moderate interaction serves to control the release of lattice oxygen to curtail deep oxidation. The incorporation of basic SrO component in the support also helped to moderate the catalyst's acidity to checkmate excessive cracking. Langmuir-Hinshelwood model was applied to formulate the rate equations. The intrinsic kinetic parameters were obtained by fitting the experimental data to the kinetic model using a nonlinear regression algorithm at a 95% confidence interval, implemented in MATLAB. n-Hexane transforms to olefins at a specific reaction rate of 1.33 mol/gcat.s and activation energy of 119.2 kJ/mol. These values when compared with other duplets (i. e., ki° and EA) for paraffins to olefins, show that indeed olefins are stable products of the oxidative conversion of n-hexane over VOx/SrO-γAl2O3 under a fluidized bed condition. Values of activation energy for all COx formation routes indicate that intermediate paraffins are likely to be cracked to form CH4 than to be converted directly to COx. On the other hand, olefins may transform partly, and directly to COx (E9=9.65 kJ/mol) than to form CH4 (E8=89.1 kJ/mol) in the presence of excess lattice oxygen. Overall, olefins appear to be stable to deep oxidation due to the role of SrO in controlling the amount of lattice oxygen of the catalyst at the reaction temperature.  相似文献

The paper reports the results of interviews with senior government administrators in Nigeria in which they were asked a range of questions about their own work and about the problems that are likely to be encountered in trying to introduce operational research into the government service. It is thus in contrast with most papers on O.R. in developing countries, which are written primarily from the viewpoint of practitioners. The administrators confirmed that there was a wide range of problems recognized as being suitable for the O.R. approach, and identified some of the barriers to the introduction of an effective O.R. service.  相似文献

In this paper, an algorithm of inertial type for approximating solutions of split equality fixed point problems involving quasi-$\phi$-nonexpansive maps is proposed and studied in the setting of certain real Banach spaces. Weak and strong convergence theorems are proved under some conditions. Some applications of the theorems are presented. The results presented extend and improve some existing results. Finally, some numerical illustrations are presented to support our theorems and their applications.  相似文献
