Periodic Optical Pulses in Nonlinear Optical Fibers

We discuss the problem of transmitting polarized pulses along optical fibers with variable dispersion. The dissipation and mean dispersion are assumed to be zero, which allows using the model of the vector nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We consider an optical fiber consisting of arms of equal length, which is assumed to be large. We propose an asymptotic recursive procedure for calculating the amplitude and the phase of an optical pulse propagating along the optical cable with variable dispersion.     

Synthesis and properties of carbon-chain polymers with pendant 1,3,4-oxadiazole rings

Carbon-chain polymers with 1,3,4-oxadiazole rings were prepared by radical polymerization and polymer-analogous transformations. The kinetic relationships of the polymerization of vinyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole monomers and some properties of the resulting polymers were studied. The thermodynamics of interaction of poly-2-vinyl-5-methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole, a nonionic water-soluble polymer, with water was examined.     

Stereoselective electrocatalytic cyclization of 3-substituted 2,2-dicyanocyclopropane-1,1-dicarboxylic acid esters to form 6-substituted (1R,5R,6R)*-4,4-dialkoxy-5-cyano-2-oxo-3-azabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-1-carboxylic acid esters

Electrolysis of 3-substituted 2,2-dicyanocyclopropane-1,1-dicarboxylic acid esters in alcohols in an undivided cell in the presence of NaBr or NaOAc afforded 6-substituted (1R,5R, 6R)*-4,4-dialkoxy-5-cyano-2-oxo-3-azabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-1-carboxylic acid esters in 80–95% yields. Spatial structure in the N-arylpiperazine series

Acid-base properties of indolylglyoxal and some acetylindoles

A spectrophotometric study of the acid-base properties of 3-acylindoles showed that they were stronger acids than the alkylindoles. It was found that protonation of these compounds occurs at the carbonyl group. For indolylglyoxal, 3-acetylindole, and 1-methyl-3-acetylindole the pK_b was determined; the pK_afor indolylglyoxal and 3-acetylindole was measured in 50% aqueous methanol.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskhikh Soedinenii, No. 12, pp. 1621–1624, December, 1987.     

Steric structure of phosphorus-contaiming heterocycles
