Optical spectra and laser-induced dissociation of supported Na particles

This paper reports new results on the optical spectra of Na particles and on laser-induced photodissociation of Na atoms from the surface of these particles. In continuation of our earlier studies we have performed experiments to elucidate the mechanism of thenonthermal dissociation process. Furthermore, theoretical calculations have been carried out with the goal to correlate the wavelength dependence of the photodissociation yield with the optical absorption spectra of the metal particles. In addition, manipulation of the size distribution of metal particles on supports is outlined as an application of the effect. This allows for the preparation of very special surfaces with novel physical and chemical properties.

In the present paper the problems of existence and uniqueness of almost periodic solutions for impulsive cellular neural networks with delay are considered.

Experimental determination of the branching ratiosp\bar p \to 2\pi ^0 ,\pi ^0 \gamma,and 2γ at rest

The branching ratios of \(p\bar p\) annihilations into the neutral final states 2π⁰, π⁰γ, and 2γ are measured by stopping antiprotons in liquid hydrogen. They are \(B_{2\pi ^0 } = \left( {2.06 \pm 0.14} \right) \times 10^{ - 4} \) , \(B_{\pi ^0 \gamma } = \left( {1.74 \pm 0.22} \right) \times 10^{ - 5} \) , andB _γγ<1.7×10^?6 (95% c.l.).     

Synthesis and deprotonation of 2-(pyridyl)phenols and 2-(pyridyl)anilines

2-(2- and 3-Pyridyl)anilines (1, 2), 2,2-dimethyl-N-[2-(2- and 3-pyridyl)phenyl]propanamides (3, 4), and 2-, 3- and 4-(2-methoxyphenyl)pyridines (7-9) are readily synthesized using cross-coupling reactions. Whereas the amines 1, 2 undergo side reactions, the corresponding amides 3, 4 are deprotonated with lithium 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidide (LTMP): the compound 3 at C6' under in situ quenching, and the compound 4 at C4'. When the ether 7 is subjected to the same reagent, lithiation occurs at C6'.     

Study of the fragmentation of small sulphur clusters

The fragmentation of sulphur clusters caused by electron impact ionization was studied. For this purpose, a beam ofS _n -clusters withn≦8 was generated in a gas aggregation source and ionized by electrons of variable energy. Special care was taken to maintain constant nucleation conditions so that the neutral cluster composition remained unchanged. It was found that the cluster ion mass spectra drastically depend on the electron energy. Even near threshold fragmentation processes contribute significantly to the dependence of the ion intensities on the electron energy.
