The ALTO project at IPN-Orsay

The availability of both a tandem deuteron beam and a linac electron beam, the latter converted into Bremsstrahlung, at the new ALTO facility at IPN-Orsay offers a unique opportunity to compare the performance of a laser ion guide under different regimes. The ALTO accelerator has delivered its first electron beam at the end of 2005 and a design for a gas-cell prototype is being studied.     

Lévy–Khintchine Formula and Dual Convolution Semigroups Associated with Laguerre and Bessel Functions

In this work we consider a system of partial differential operators D ₁,D ₂ on K=[0,+[×R, whose eigenfunctions are the functions (x,t), (x,t)K, =((R0)×N)(0×[0,+[), which are related to the Laguerre functions for ((R 0)×N)(0,0) and which are the Bessel functions for (0×[0,+[). We provide K and with a convolution structure. We prove a Lévy–Khintchine formula on K, which permits us to characterize dual convolution semigroups on .

Computational investigations of the band structure and thermodynamic properties of calcium-doped BaS using the FP-LAPW approach

In this work, the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method was used to calculate the structural, electronic, thermal and thermodynamic properties of BaS and CaS compounds and their ternary mixtures, Ba_1?xCa_xS. The local-density approximation (LDA), the Wu-Cohen generalized gradient approximation (WC-GGA) and the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof generalized gradient approximation (PBE-GGA) were used as the exchange-correlation potential. Moreover, the modified Becke–Johnson approximation was also used for the band structure calculations. We examined the composition effect on the lattice constants, bulk modulus and band gap. The microscopic origins of the band gap bowing were characterized in detail using the approach of Zunger and colleagues. Pressure and temperature effects on the lattice parameter, heat capacity, Debye temperature, Grüneisen parameter, and thermal expansion coefficient were predicted using the quasi-harmonic Debye model. The thermodynamic stability of these alloys was investigated by calculating the excess enthalpy of mixing, ?H_m, and the phase diagram. It was shown that these alloys are stable at high temperature.

Survival time of a heterogeneous random walk in a quadrant

We obtain upper Gaussian estimates of transition probabilities of inhomogeneous random walks on the positive quadrant. Among the most important steps in our proof are comparison arguments based on discrete variants of the Harnack principle and large deviations estimates.     

Chemotypes of essential oil of unripe galls of Pistacia atlantica Desf. from Algeria

The essential oils (EOs) of unripe galls (from male and female plants) of a total number of 52 samples of Pistacia atlantica collected from different regions in Algeria were analysed by GC/MS and GC. The yields of the extraction of the EO by hydrodistillation vary from low to high values (0.08–1.89% v/w). The results of both methods of principal component analysis and hierarchical ascendant classification revealed the presence of two different chemotypes: α-pinene chemotype and α-pinene/sabinene/terpinen-4-ol chemotype.
