1-Nitro-2-thio(sulfonyl)alkenes in Reactions with Thiols

Reactions of 1-nitro-2-sulfonylalkenes with arenethiolates result in replacement of the sulfonyl group; the reactions with alkanethiolates are accompanied by subsequent addition of the reagent at the double bond to afford thioacetals. Less reactive -nitro--R-thiostyrenes with thiolates at reduced temperature form addition products which are converted into the corresponding substitution products on storage at room temperature, in keeping with the addition-elimination mechanism of nucleophilic vinyl substitution. Nitro(arylthio)- and nitro(heterylthio)alkenes react with alkanethiolates at room temperature, resulting in replacement of the arylthio (heterylthio) group by alkylthio.

Synthesis,crystal structure,and luminescence properties of CaY2Ge3O10:Ln3+, Ln = Eu,Tb

The crystal structure and luminescence properties of CaY₂Ge₃O₁₀:Ln³⁺ (Ln = Eu, Tb) germanates synthesized via a conventional solid-state reaction and an ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid complexing process are studied. The CaY_{2 ? x} Ln _x Ge₃O₁₀ (Ln = Eu, Tb; x = 0–1.0, 2.0; Δx = 0.1) solid solutions have a monoclinic structure (space group P2₁/c, Z = 4), in which dopant ions occupy three nonequivalent noncentrosymmetric sites with different Ca²⁺/Ln³⁺ ratios. The effect of the synthesis methods, dopant concentrations, and excitation wavelengths on the luminescence properties of the compounds obtained is determined.     

Investigation into the dynamics and variations in the magnetic structure of an ensemble of ferromagnetic particles

The nonlinear dynamics of an ensemble of single-domain interacting particles upon excitation by radio-frequency pulses of a magnetic field is investigated. Reorientation of magnetic moments of ensemble particles under the effect of the pulses of the radio-frequency field is observed. The effect of varying the magnetic structure on the frequency dependences of susceptibility is studied. Temporal characteristics of precession in separate particles under the conditions of an orientation transition are considered.
