In this paper, we present order invariance theoretical results for weighted quasi-arithmetic means of a monotonic series of numbers. The quasi-arithmetic mean, or Kolmogorov–Nagumo mean, generalizes the classical mean and appears in many disciplines, from information theory to physics, from economics to traffic flow. Stochastic orders are defined on weights (or equivalently, discrete probability distributions). They were introduced to study risk in economics and decision theory, and recently have found utility in Monte Carlo techniques and in image processing. We show in this paper that, if two distributions of weights are ordered under first stochastic order, then for any monotonic series of numbers their weighted quasi-arithmetic means share the same order. This means for instance that arithmetic and harmonic mean for two different distributions of weights always have to be aligned if the weights are stochastically ordered, this is, either both means increase or both decrease. We explore the invariance properties when convex (concave) functions define both the quasi-arithmetic mean and the series of numbers, we show its relationship with increasing concave order and increasing convex order, and we observe the important role played by a new defined mirror property of stochastic orders. We also give some applications to entropy and cross-entropy and present an example of multiple importance sampling Monte Carlo technique that illustrates the usefulness and transversality of our approach. Invariance theorems are useful when a system is represented by a set of quasi-arithmetic means and we want to change the distribution of weights so that all means evolve in the same direction.  相似文献

Titan, the largest satellite of Saturn, is the only one in the solar system with a dense atmosphere. Mainly composed of dinitrogen with several % of methane, this atmosphere experiences complex organic processes, both in the gas and aerosol phases, which are of prebiotic interest and within an environment of astrobiological interest. This tutorial review presents the different approaches which can be followed to study such an exotic place and its chemistry: observation, theoretical modeling and experimental simulation. It describes the Cassini-Huygens mission, as an example of observational tools, and gives the new astrobiologically oriented vision of Titan which is now available by coupling the three approaches. This includes the many analogies between Titan and the Earth, in spite of the much lower temperature in the Saturn system, the complex organic chemistry in the atmosphere, from the gas to the aerosol phases, but also the potential organic chemistry on Titan's surface, and in its possible internal water ocean.  相似文献

 A procedure is described for the colorimetric determination of iron in infant fortified formulas based on sequential injection analysis (SIA). Iron(III) complexation with thiocyanate is used as colour developing reaction. The system enables the determination of iron in the samples (after digestion by dry ashing and treatment with 0.2 mol/L nitric acid in the range of 0.50–20.0 mg/L, consuming 140 μL of the sample and 8 mg thiocyanate per determination. The reactor geometry and the adjustment of the ionic content of the calibration solutions is important for the accuracy of the results. A regression line according to the equation [Fe(III) (mg/L)]SIA=−0.3(±0.4)+1.03(±0.04) [Fe(III) (mg/L)]FAAS was obtained after comparative analysis of a set of 12 samples. The measurement rate was 34 s, thus allowing to analyze 100 samples per hour with a relative standard deviation lower than 2%. The capacity to create an increasing variety of bioactive molecules that are designed to assemble in specific configurations has opened up tremendous possibilities in the design of materials with an unprecedented level of control and functionality. A particular challenge involves guiding such self-assembling interactions across scales, thus precisely positioning individual molecules within well-organized, highly-ordered structures. Such hierarchical control is essential if peptides and proteins are to serve as both structural and functional building blocks of biomedical materials. To achieve this goal, top-down techniques are increasingly being used in combination with self-assembling systems to reproducibly manipulate, localize, orient and assemble peptides and proteins to form organized structures. In this tutorial review we provide insight into how both standard and novel top-down techniques are being used in combination with peptide or protein self-assembly to create a new generation of functional materials.  相似文献

Preliminary results obtained in the evaluation of a mathematical model for flow-injection systems, including chemical kinetics, with an eight-way injection valve are presented. The use of this kind of injection valve permits the insertion of the sample bolus between two different reagent solutions (sandwich techniques). The model considers the system as a tubular reactor with axially dispersed plug flow. As an example for systems with chemical reaction, the enzymatic determination of glucose was chosen. The parameters of the model (dispersion coefficients and reaction rate constants) were experimentally evaluated by using a tracer or by unidirectional optimization, respectively. The effect of different parameters of the flow system on the analytical signal for one analyte and one reagent was simulated, and the model results are compared with experimental data obtained under the same conditions.  相似文献
