Effects of Magnetic Nanofluid Fuel Combustion on the Performance and Emission Characteristics

Although the compression ignition engines are a significant source of power, their detrimental emissions create considerable problems to the environment as well as to humans. The objective of the present experimental investigation is to examine the effects of the magnetic nanofluid fuels on combustion performance characteristics and exhaust emissions. In this regard, the Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles dispersed in the diesel fuel with the nanoparticle concentrations of 0.4 and 0.8 vol% were employed for combustion in a single-cylinder, direct-injection diesel engine. After a series of experiments, it was demonstrated that the nanoparticle additives, even at very low concentrations, have considerable influence in diesel engine characteristics. Furthermore, the results indicated that the nanofluid fuel with nanoparticle concentration of 0.4 vol% shows better combustion characteristics in comparison with that of 0.8 vol%. Based on the experimental results, NO _x and SO₂ emissions dramatically reduce, while CO emissions and smoke opacity noticeably increase with increasing the dosing level of nanoparticles.     

Abelian varieties and the general Hodge conjecture

We investigate the relationship between the usual and general Hodgeconjectures for abelian varieties. For certain abelian varieties A, weshow that the usual Hodge conjecture for all powers of A implies thegeneral Hodge conjecture for A.     

Hodge Structures Associated to SU(p, 1)

Let A be an abelian variety over ? such that the semisimple part of the Hodge group of A is a product of copies of SU(p, 1) for some p > 1. We show that any effective Tate twist of a Hodge structure occurring in the cohomology of A is isomorphic to a Hodge structure in the cohomology of some abelian variety.     

The Tate Conjecture for Generic Abelian Varieties

Let A V be a Kuga fibre variety of Mumford's Hodge type, definedover a finitely generated subfield of C, and let be the genericpoint of V. We show that any element of which is invariant under , for some finite extension E of k(), is fixed bythe semisimple part of the Hodge group of A. If A V satisfiesthe H₂-condition, then the Hodge and Tate conjectures are equivalentfor A, and the Mumford–Tate conjecture is true.     

Tate twists of Hodge structures arising from abelian varieties of type IV

We show that certain abelian varieties $A$ have the property that for every Hodge structure $V$ in the cohomology of $A$, every effective Tate twist of $V$ occurs in the cohomology of some abelian variety. We deduce the general Hodge conjecture for certain non-simple abelian varieties of type IV.     

Hodge structures on abelian varieties of type IV

Let A be a general member of a PEL-family of abelian varieties with endomorphisms by an imaginary quadratic number field k, and let E be an elliptic curve with complex multiplications by k. We show that the usual Hodge conjecture for products of A with powers of E implies the general Hodge conjecture for all powers of A. We deduce the general Hodge conjecture for all powers of certain 5-dimensional abelian varieties.
