The emerging ultralightweight material, carbon foam, was modeled with three-dimensional microstructures to develop a basic understanding in correlating microstructural configuration with bulk performance of open-cell foam materials. Because of the randomness and complexity of the microstructure of the carbon foam, representative cell ligaments were first characterized in detail at the microstructural level. The salient microstructural characteristics (or properties) were then correlated with the bulk properties through the present model. In order to implement the varying anisotropic nature of material properties in the foam ligaments, we made an attempt to use a finite element method to implement such variation along the ligaments as well as at a nodal point where the ligaments meet. The model was expected to provide a basis for establishing a process-property relationship and optimizing foam properties.The present model yielded a fairly reasonable prediction of the effective bulk properties of the foams. We observed that the effective elastic properties of the foams were dominated by the bending mode associated with shear deformation. The effective Young's modulus of the foam was strongly influenced by the ligament moduli, but was not influenced by the ligament Poisson's ratio. The effective Poisson's ratio of the foam was practically independent of the ligament Young's modulus, but dependent on the ligament Poisson's ratio. The effective Young's modulus of the carbon foam was dependent more on the transverse Young's modulus and the shear moduli of the foam ligaments, but less significantly on the ligament longitudinal Young's modulus. A parametric study indicated that the effective Young's modulus was significantly improved by increasing the solid modulus in the middle of the foam ligaments, but nearly invariant with that at the nodal point where the ligaments meet. Therefore, appropriate processing schemes toward improving the transverse and shear properties of the foam ligaments in the middle section of the ligaments rather than at the nodal points are highly desirable for enhancing the bulk moduli of the carbon foam.  相似文献

Sec13p has been known as an endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi transport protein. Recently, it has also been shown to be required for the formation of septation in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. In the present study, we focused on the role of a human homolog of Saccharomyces cerevisiae SEC13, Sec13 protein during mitosis in U2OS cells. We found that the expression of Sec13 was constant throughout the cell cycle, and localized to the kinetochores at metaphase during mitosis. By using green fluorescent protein technology, we observed that Sec13 is required for evasion of mitotic arrest in response to spindle damage, leading to G1-like phase and apoptotic cell death. In addition, cells expressing exogenous Sec13 showed giant nuclei compared to endogenous ones in the absence of nocodazole. These results demonstrate that Sec13 is involved in the regulation of the metaphase/anaphase transition and may be functionally associated with mitotic machinery to maintain genomic stability during mitosis.  相似文献

A nanoporous CaCO3 overlayer-coated TiO2 thick film was prepared by the topotactic thermal decomposition of Ca(OH)2, and its performance as an electrode of a dye-sensitized solar cell was investigated. As compared to bare TiO2, nanoporous CaCO3-coated TiO2 provided higher specific surface area and, subsequently, a larger amount of dye adsorption; this in turn increased short-circuit current (Jsc). Furthermore, the CaCO3 coating demonstrated increased impedance at the TiO2/dye/electrolyte interface and increased the lifetime of the photoelectrons, indicating the improved retardation of the back electron transfer, which increases Jsc, open-circuit voltage (Voc), and fill factor (ff). Thereby, the energy conversion efficiency (eta) of the solar cell improved from 7.8 to 9.7% (an improvement of 24.4%) as the nanoporous CaCO3 layer was coated onto TiO2 thick films.  相似文献

In this paper, we study flag structures of matroid base polytopes. We describe faces of matroid base polytopes in terms of matroid data, and give conditions for hyperplane splits of matroid base polytopes. Also, we show how the cd-index of a polytope can be expressed when a polytope is split by a hyperplane, and apply these to the cd-index of a matroid base polytope of a rank 2 matroid.  相似文献

Vapor-grown carbon nanofibers (VGCNF) were functionalized with amine-containing pendants via a Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction with 4-(3-aminophenoxy)benzoic acid. The resulting H2N-VGCNF was treated with epichlorohydrin, followed by sodium hydroxide solution to afford N,N-diglycidyl-modified VGCNF that is designated as epoxy-VGCNF. Subsequently, epoxy-VGCNF was dispersed in an epoxy resin (Epon 862) with the aid of acetone and sonication. After acetone had been removed under vacuum from the mixture, curing agent “W” was added to epoxy-VGCNF/Epon 862 mixture, which was then poured into molds and cured at 250 °F (121 °C) for 2 h and 350 °F (177 °C) for 2 h to form a series of epoxy/fVGCNF samples; fVGCNF designated for “functionalized VGCNF” was used to denote our belief that all epoxy functions have reacted in the resulting nanocomposites. The VGCNF content was increased from 0.10 to 10.0 wt%. For comparison purposes, the pristine VGCNF or pVGCNF (0.1-5.0 wt%) was also used in the in situ polymerization of Epon 862 and curing agent “W” to afford another series of epoxy/pVGCNF samples. The epoxy-VGCNF showed a better dispersion in the epoxy resin than pVGCNF according to SEM results. Both the tensile moduli and strengths of epoxy/fVGCNF nanocomposites are higher than those of epoxy/pVGCNF. The additive effect of VGCNF on glass-transition (Tg) was discussed in terms of thermal analysis results. The thermal stability of the nanocomposites was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).  相似文献

Physicochemical properties of PBLG (poly(gamma-benzyl-l-glutamate))-PEO (poly(ethylene oxide)) diblock copolymers composed of PBLG as the hydrophobic rod component and PEO as the hydrophilic component were investigated at the air-water interface. Surface pressure-area isotherms obtained by the Wilhelmy plate method provide several variables such as molecular size, compressibility of PEO, and the free energy change of the PBLG-PEO block copolymer. GE-1 (M(w) of PBLG:PEO=103,700:12,000), with a relatively longer rod, has negative temperature effects and GE-3 (M(w) of PBLG:PEO=8400:12,000), with a relatively shorter rod, shows a positive temperature effect because of the large entropy loss. These competitions were based on the block size of PBLG and PEO and were affected by various microstructures of the PBLG-PEO diblock copolymer. Monolayer aggregations transferred onto mica from the air-water interface were analyzed with AFM. AFM images of GE-1 monolayers show cylindrical micelles, but the self-assembled structure has many large domains. The monolayer of GE-2 (M(w) of PBLG:PEO=39,800:12,000), which has a medium size rod, forms a spherical structure at the air-water interface. Monolayers of GE-3, with a short rod length, form bilayer structures. These results demonstrate that the microstructures of PBLG-PEO diblock copolymers are related to free energy changes between rod and coil blocks.  相似文献

Ru(II) complexes 1 – 3 bearing various N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands were synthesized, and their photophysical, electrochemical, and electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) properties were discussed to evaluate a potential of their use as multicolor ECL labels. Interestingly, they exhibited ECL emission ranging from greenish‐yellow to red both in nonaqueous and mixed aqueous solutions, which might show the potential of the Ru(II) complexes as multicolor ECL labels.  相似文献

We prove that if a simplicial complex Δ is shellable, then the intersection lattice L Δ for the corresponding diagonal arrangement is homotopy equivalent to a wedge of spheres. Furthermore, we describe precisely the spheres in the wedge, based on the data of shelling. Also, we give some examples of diagonal arrangements  where the complement is K(π,1), coming from rank-3 matroids. Divalent metal tungstates, MWO4, with wolframite (M=Zn and Mg) and scheelite (M=Ca and Sr) structures were prepared using a conventional solid state reaction method. Their electronic band structures were investigated by a combination of electronic band structure calculations and electrochemical measurements. From these investigations, it was found that the band structures (i.e. band positions and band gaps) of the divalent metal tungstates were significantly influenced by their crystal structural environments, such as the W-O bond length. Their photovoltaic properties were evaluated by applying to the working electrodes for dye-sensitized solar cells. The dye-sensitized solar cells employing the wolframite-structured metal tungstates (ZnWO4 and MgWO4) exhibited better performance than those using the scheelite-structured metal tungstates (CaWO4 and SrWO4), which was attributed to their enhanced electron transfer resulting from their appropriate band positions.  相似文献
