The objective of this study was to assess the difference in voice quality as defined by acoustical analysis using sustained vowel in laryngectomized patients in comparison with normal volunteers. This was designed as a retrospective single center cohort study. An adult tertiary referral unit formed the setting of this study. Fifty patients (40 males) who underwent total laryngectomy and 31 normal volunteers (18 male) participated. Group comparisons with the first three formant frequencies (F1, F2, and F3) using linear predictive coding (LPC) (Laryngograph Ltd, London, UK) was performed. The existence of any significant difference of F1, F2, and F3 between the two groups using the sustained vowel /i/ and the effects of other factors namely, tumor stage (T), chemoradiotherapy, pharyngectomy, cricothyroid myotomy, closure of pharyngoesophageal segment, and postoperative complication were analyzed. Formant frequencies F1, F2, and F3 were significantly different in male laryngectomees compared to controls: F1 (P<0.001, Mann-Whitney U test), F2 (P<0.001, Student's t test), and F3 (P=0.008, Student's t test). There was no significant difference between females in both groups for all three formant frequencies. Chemoradiotherapy and postoperative complications (pharyngocutaneous fistula) caused a significantly lower formant F1 in men, but showed little effect in F2 and F3. Laryngectomized males produced significantly higher formant frequencies, F1, F2, and F3, compared to normal volunteers, and this is consistent with literature. Chemoradiotherapy and postoperative complications significantly influenced the formant scores in the laryngectomee population. This study shows that robust and reliable data could be obtained using electroglottography and LPC in normal volunteers and laryngectomees using a sustained vowel.  相似文献

Molecules of the form Cp(6,6-dmch)ZrX(2) (Cp = eta(5)-cyclopentadienyl, X = Cl, Br, I; 6,6-dmch = eta(5)-6,6-dimethylcyclohexadienyl) have been synthesized, and the molecular and electronic structures have been investigated. These molecules allow direct comparison of the bonding and properties of pentadienyl and cyclopentadienyl ligands in the same high-oxidation-state metal complexes. Unlike the well-known Cp(2)ZrX(2) analogues, these Cp(6,6-dmch)ZrX(2) molecules are intensely colored, indicating significantly different relative energies of the frontier orbitals. Also unusual, the average Zr-C distances to the 6,6-dmch pentadienyl ligand are about 0.1 A longer than the average Zr-C distances to the cyclopentadienyl ligand for these Zr(IV) complexes, opposite of what is observed for the Zr(II) complex Cp(2,6,6-tmch)Zr(PMe(3))(2) (tmch = eta(5)-2,6,6-trimethylcyclohexadienyl), reflecting a dramatic reversal in the favorability of the bonding depending on the metal oxidation state. The experimental and computational results indicate that the color of the Cp(6,6-dmch)ZrX(2) complexes is due to a 6,6-dmch ligand-to-metal charge-transfer band. Compared to the Cp(2)ZrX(2) analogues, the Cp(6,6-dmch)ZrX(2) molecules have a considerably less stable HOMO that is pentadienyl-based and an essentially unchanged metal-based LUMO. Also, the lowest unoccupied orbital of pentadienyl is stabilized relative to cyclopentadienyl and becomes a better potential delta electron acceptor, thus contributing to the differences in structure and reactivity of the low-valent and high-valent metal complexes.  相似文献

Tribological efficiency of industrial applications involving boundary lubrication regime can be improved to an appreciable extent by the deposition of hard coatings on interacting surfaces. Among such coatings, diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings are considered to be one of the most suitable ones for the said role. DLC coatings possess a unique combination of physical, chemical, and material properties due to which they can help in minimizing friction-induced energy and material losses even under starved lubrication conditions. Since commercial lubricants are optimized for steel surfaces, therefore, a lot of experimental investigations were carried out to analyze the tribological compatibility of these lubricants with various DLC coatings. However, there is still a lack of understanding about how DLC coatings interact with conventional lubricant additives. Some researchers reported tribologically beneficial interactions between DLC coatings and formulated lubricants while others observed no such behavior. To address these inconsistencies, there is a need to rearrange the published data in a more apprehensible and organized manner with a special emphasis on the mechanisms responsible for a particular tribological behavior. In this way, it can be determined whether synergistic or antagonistic correlation exists between a particular DLC-lubricant combination and research on DLC coatings can be continued in a logical way. In this article, most widely investigated non-doped DLC coatings (ta-C, a-C:H, a-C, and ta-C:H) are tribologically analyzed. Average values of friction and wear coefficients are calculated for various DLC-lubricant combinations using already published data and compared to quantify the effectiveness of a particular lubricant additive in enhancing tribological characteristics of symmetrical non-doped DLC contacts. Moreover, tribological performance parameters of non-doped DLC coatings are compared with those of doped-DLC coatings to understand differences in their tribological behavior in combination with additives.  相似文献

In this paper, we suggest and analyze a Krasnoselski-Mann type iterative method to approximate a common element of solution sets of a hierarchical fixed point problem for nonexpansive mappings and a split mixed equilibrium problem. We prove that sequences generated by the proposed iterative method converge weakly to a common element of solution sets of these problems. Further, we derive some consequences from our main result. Furthermore, we extend the considered iterative method to a split monotone variational inclusion problem and deduce some consequences. Finally, we give a numerical example to justify the main result. The method and results presented in this paper generalize and unify the corresponding known results in this area.  相似文献

This pilot study elaborates the development of novel epoxy/electrospun polylactic acid (PLA) nanofiber composites at the fiber contents of 3, 5, and 10 wt % to evaluate their mechanical and thermal properties using flexural tests and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The flexural moduli of composites increase remarkably by 50.8 and 24.0% for 5 and 10 wt % fiber contents, respectively, relative to that of neat epoxy. Furthermore, a similar trend is also shown for corresponding flexural strengths being enhanced by 31.6 and 4.8%. Fractured surface morphology with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirms a full permeation of cured epoxy matrix into nanofiber structures and existence of nondestructive fibrous networks inside large void cavities. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of composites increases up to 54–60 °C due to embedded electrospun nanofibers compared to 50 °C for that of epoxy, indicating that fibrous networks may further restrict the intermolecular mobility of matrix in thermal effects. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The solvatochromic properties of the free base and the protonated 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-trimethyl-ammonio-phenyl)-porphine tetratosylate (TTMAPP) were studied in pure water, methanol, ethanol, 2-propanol, and their corresponding aqueous mixtures. The correlation of the empirical solvent polarity scale (E T) values of TTMAPP with composition of the solvents were analyzed by the solvent exchange model of Bosch and Roses to clarify the preferential solvation of the probe dyes in the binary mixed solvents. The solvation shell composition effects in preferential solvation of the solute dyes were investigated in terms of both solvent–solvent and solute–solvent interactions and also the local mole fraction of each solvent composition was calculated in the cybotactic region of the probe. The effective mole fraction variation may provide significant physicochemical insights in the microscopic and molecular level of interactions between TTMAPP species and the solvent components and, therefore, can be used to interpret the solvent effect on kinetics and thermodynamics of TTMAPP.  相似文献

The deprotonation of 5,7-dihydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)chroman-4-one (naringenin) was studied in aqueous solutions of ethanol and 0.1 mol L?1 sodium perchlorate at 25°C. The chemical species that contributed to deprotonation were evaluated together with their pure spectral characteristics and concentration profiles by some chemometric methods. The deprotonation constants assigned by pK 1, pK 2, and pK 3 were determined by multivariate curve analysis of spectral data at different pcH values. The pure spectral analysis concordant with the theoretical prediction of deprotonation constants indicates that the acidity of hydroxyl groups in naringenin decreases in the order: 7-OH, 4′-OH, 5-OH. The effects of the solvent on deprotonation were analysed in terms of the linear solvation energy relationships using the model of Kamlet, Abboud, and Taft (KAT). Multiple linear regressions were aimed towards correlating the deprotonation constants with the microscopic parameters containing hydrogen-bond acidity (α), dipolarity/polarisability (π*), and hydrogen-bond basicity (β). The most significant parameter was found to be the hydrogen-bond acidity of binary mixtures.  相似文献

Saraca asoca is an IUCN red-listed tree species that extensively famous in the Ayurvedic medicine field. Saraca asoca (Roxb.) de Wilde belongs to the family Fabaceae, has been used to treat various gynecological disorders, bacterial infections, worm infestations, haemmorhagic dysentery, uterine pain, skin diseases, cancer, circulatory, cardiovascular disorders, and many others. All parts of the Saraca asoca have medicinal values. Numerous antioxidant compounds like flavonoids, catechin, beta-sitosterol, lignin glycosides are present in the bark, leaf, and flower of Saraca asoca plant, which help to stabilize free radicals molecules that are associated with the development of cancer conditions. Currently in the cancer research study field new and more effective modes of natural therapies are recently being analyzed. Traditional medicines have been used for their preventative role against various diseases in the human population. Plant based therapy for cancer prevention is becoming more demanding due to its various unique properties such as natural chemical composition, less expensiveness, naturally available., easily orally administrable, significant chemo-protective activities, nontoxic to normal cells in the body, less side effects compared to other synthetic chemotherapeutic drugs. The chemotherapeutic drugs will be harmful to both cancer and normal cells. Additionally, some common side effects or health consequences like vomiting, nausea, bleeding, hair fall, alopecia, hyperuricemia, thrombocytopenia, bone marrow depression, mucositis are very common after chemotherapeutic drug treatment in cancer. This review paper summarizes the evidences which agree with the fact that flavonoids and other phenolic compounds in Saraca asoca plant possess significant antioxidant activity and an efficient chemopreventive characteristic against different types of cancer. This paper reviews the anticancer activities of Saraca asoca bark and flower and discusses the potential preventive roles of phenolic and flavonoids compounds, present in bark and flower of Saraca asoca in the cancer treatment process.  相似文献

A new method, based on the concepts of matrix analysis as well as the learning capabilities of neural networks, for the analysis of nonlinear trusses under dynamic loading is presented. The method can be applied to static trusses too. While there have been attempts in the past to use neural networks to identify and model different structures based on data measured on structural response directly, the main feature and advantage of this new method is in its capability to model a nonlinear truss by assembling the data collected on the response of its members. The basics of the method are: (1) for each truss member, a neural network is trained to learn and simulate its load-response behavior, (2) the member neural networks are then assembled to build another neural network which can simulate the load-response behavior of the whole truss. Noticing test at member level is generally easier than at structure level, this can make the building of a neural network to simulate the response of the truss more affordable. Also this has potential application when it is hard to find a mathematical model from experimental data to describe the internal force vector for a truss, as well as identification and control of trusses where precise modeling of the structure is a key point to the success of the application. Prandtl Neural Network, developed recently by the authors for modeling of nonlinear hysteretic materials, has been improved and used in this study too. The improved version has been called Prandtl-2 Neural Network (PNN2) in this paper. The method has been applied to the static and dynamic analysis of a 3-bar and a 10-bar benchmark truss successfully, the results of which are reported in this paper.  相似文献
