The allotropic phase change from ferrite to austenite represents a moment of massive interplay between the microstructural and mechanical states of iron. The difference of compacity between the two phases induces a microplastic accommodation in the material at grain scale. However, mechanical heterogeneities resulting from the transformation process remain challenging to characterise due to the high temperature conditions it is associated with. We developed experimental equipment for in situ observation of α ? γ and γ ? α transformations. Images of the surface of an iron sample taken by an optical camera were used as input for a Digital Image Correlation (DIC) routine. Special care was taken to maximize image resolution to capture sub-grain phenomena. Observations show that, at the mesoscopic scale, shear strain fields exhibit strong localisations that are evidence of transformations that are occurring.

This paper is concerned with the experimental behaviour of a 16MND5 steel (french vessel steel) under complex loading. A particular attention is paid to plasticity induced by phase transformation. We present an experimental set-up to apply thermo-mechanical loads under tension-torsion. This apparatus enables us to reach temperature of 1200 °C at a maximum heating rate of 60 °C s−1 and a high cooling rate of −30 °C s−1. A series of tests is performed in order to show the rule of loading on transformation plasticity.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose to investigate the potential improvement of using Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) functions for displacement measurements by digital image correlation (DIC). The aim is at improving the performance of DIC to capture with low uncertainty and low noise levels not only the displacement field but also its derivatives. Indeed, when the displacement field is used to feed constitutive law identification procedures, displacement derivatives are required and thus may be measured with robustness. Two examples illustrate the potential of NURBS for DIC: a compressive test on a wood sample and a bending test on a steel beam. For the latter, beam kinematics are adopted and NURBS are used in order to capture the variation of the curvature (second derivative of the displacement) along the beam axis. For these two examples, an error study based on a decomposition of the error into the correlation error and the interpolation error, is carried out and shows the great potential of NURBS functions for DIC.  相似文献

This paper is about the modeling of damage and residual stresses induced by a complex history of thermo-elasto-plastic multiphase in welding heat affected zone (HAZ). A two-scale model for elasto-plastic damaged multiphase is developed. The constitutive equations of the model are coupling ductile damage, elasto-plastic strains, phase transformation and transformation plasticity. In this study, an equation of damage evolution is proposed based on the continuum damage mechanics. In order to validate the proposed damage evolution, a set of flat notched bars with various notches are to simulated and then compared to experimental results. An example of laser heated disk is simulated to elaborate the two-scale model and the simulated results of the two-scale model in CAST3M® is compared the results calculated by a homogenized macroscopic model in SYSWELD®. The study shows the two-scale model provides valuable freedom to choose the material or mechanical law for each phase. The proposed damage equation extends the application of existing ductile damage models. In the calculation of residual stresses, damage decreases the residual stresses in HAZ by a small amount.  相似文献

Several published papers deal with the possibility of replacing a damage finite element model by a combination of cohesive zones and finite elements. The focus of the paper is to show under which conditions this change of model can be done in an energy-wise manner. The objective is to build a cohesive model based on a known damage model, without making any assumption on the shape of the cohesive law. The method is characterized, on the one hand, by the use of a well-defined thermodynamic framework for the cohesive model and, on the other hand, by the idea that the main quantity which must be maintained through the change of model is the energy dissipated by the structure. An analysis of the stability criteria enables us to determine the domains of validity of the different models. Thus, we show that it is consistent to derive the cohesive law from a given nonlocal damage model because the occurrence of a discontinuity can be viewed as an alternative way to limit localization. The method is illustrated on one-dimensional examples and a numerical resolution method for the problem with a cohesive zone is presented.  相似文献
