Directed and elliptic flow in 197Au+197Au at intermediate energies

Directed and elliptic flow for the ¹⁹⁷Au+¹⁹⁷Au system at incident energies between 40 and 150 MeV per nucleon has been measured using the INDRA 4π multi-detector. For semi-central collisions, the excitation function of elliptic flow shows a transition from in-plane to out-of-plane emission at around 100 MeV per nucleon. The directed flow changes sign at a bombarding energy between 50 and 60 MeV per nucleon and remains negative at lower energies. Molecular dynamics calculations (CHIMERA) indicate sensitivity of the global squeeze-out transition on the σ _NN and demonstrate the importance of angular momentum conservation in transport codes at low energies.     

The LPCTrap experiment: measurement of the β–ν angular correlation in 6He using a transparent Paul trap

We report on the status of the LPCTrap experiment, devoted to measure the β–ν angular correlation in the pure Gamow–Teller decay of ⁶He. This measurement is motivated by the search for the presence of tensor type contributions to the weak interaction. The ⁶He ions are confined in a novel transparent Paul trap. The β particles and the recoil ions are detected in coincidence to deduce the angular correlation parameter. The commissioning run performed in 2005 has given the proof of principle of this experiment. Up to 10⁵ coincidences were recorded during a second run in 2006.     

Diffraction by a wedge at skew incidence: integral representations of Cauchy-Carleman for the electromagnetic fields

An electromagnetic diffraction problem in a wedge shaped region is reduced to a system of coupled functional difference equations by means of Sommerfeld integrals and Malyuzhinets theorem. By introducing an integral operator it is shown that the solutions of this system of functional equations can be defined in terms of integral representations whose kernels are solutions of a singular integral equation of Cauchy-Carleman type for which an explicit solution is given.     

Possible evidence for a narrow isovectorB=2 resonance below pion production threshold

Some evidence is presented for a narrow peak at 1969±2 MeV (FWHM=9±2 MeV) in the missing mass spectrum of the³He(p, d) reaction, with 3 standard deviations. The nature of this state, the mass of which is below the NN threshold, is discussed in connection with structures found in other experiments.     

A new simple instrument for thermomagnetometry. Applications to simultaneous thermomechanical measurements

A new instrument has been set up to study magnetic materials. Curie points measured by means of this simple apparatus are in perfect agreement with those given by a conventional magnetic balance. The apparatus may be used alone, but also combined with an electronic thermodilatometer. Curie points are emphasized simultaneously by the thermodilatometric and impedance curves. It appears that the sensitivity and reliability of the apparatus demonstrate magnetic phenomena of very low intensity such as the order point of α-Fe₂O₃.     

Polymerization by transition metal derivatives. XII. Factors controlling activity and stereospecificity in the 1,4 polymerization of butadiene by monometallic nickel catalysts

In the course of investigations of polymerization of diolefins by transition metal derivatives, we have synthesized various monometallic nickel coordination catalysts. The complexes were prepared by reacting 2,6,10-dodecatriene-1,12-diyl nickel with protonic acids; they were shown to initiate the stereospecific polymerization of 1,3-butadiene. The study of these catalysts showed the strong influence of the nature of the counteranion used on the stereospecificity and the polymerization rate. Moreover, by adding various ligands, we were able to modify the behavior of the catalytic systems and to prepare either pure cis-1,4 or pure trans-1,4 or cis–trans equibinary polybutadienes, starting from the same complex and keeping a high 1,4 specificity. Some of these modifications were shown to be reversible.
