Co-activation of Gi and Gq proteins exerts synergistic effect on human platelet aggregation through activation of phospholipase C and Ca2+ signalling pathways

Our previous studies have shown that subthreshold concentrations of two platelet agonists exert synergistic effects on platelet aggregation. Here we studied the mechanism of synergistic interaction of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and epinephrine mediated platelet aggregation. We show that 5-HT had no or little effect on aggregation but it did potentiate the aggregation response of epinephrine. The synergistic interaction of 5-HT (1-5 microM) and epinephrine (0.5-2 microM) was inhibited by alpha2-adrenoceptor blocker (yohimbine; IC50= 0.4 microM), calcium channel blockers (verapamil and diltiazem with IC50 of 10 and 48 mM, respectively), PLC inhibitor (U73122; IC50=6 microM) and nitric oxide (NO) donor, SNAP (IC50=1.6 microM)). The data suggest that synergistic effects of platelet agonists are receptor-mediated and occur through multiple signalling pathways including the activation PLC/Ca2+ signalling cascades.     

Titrimetric determination of microgram amounts of thallium(I) by thiocyanate amplification after precipitation as thallium hexathiocyanatochromate(III)

Summary Thallium (5–200g) is precipitated as Tl₃Cr(SCN)₆. The precipitate is collected, then treated with 10% sodium carbonate solution, and the thiocyanate dissolved is oxidized to sulphate by iodine at pH 8.2. After acidification, the excess of iodine is extracted into chloroform, and the iodide in the aqueous solution is determined by the Leipert amplification procedure. The method provides 76 iodine atoms for each original thallium(I) ion. Copper(II), mercury(II), bismuth, lead and silver interfere seriously, the first three causing negative errors and the other two positive errors.

Maanalytische Bestimmung von Mikrogrammengen Thallium(I) durch Vervielfachung mit Thiocyanat nach Fällung als Thalliumhexathiocyanatochromat(III)

Zusammenfassung Thallium (5–200g) wird als Tl₃Cr(SCN)₆ gefällt. Der gesammelte Niederschlag wird mit 10% iger Sodalösung behandelt und das gelöste Thiocyanat mit Jod bei pH 8,2 zu Sulfat oxydiert. Nach Ansäuern wird der Jodüberschuß mit Chloroform extrahiert und das Jodid in der wäßrigen Lösung nach Leipert titriert. Dabei entsprechen 76 Jodatome einem ursprünglichen Thallium(I)ion. Cu(II), Hg(II), Bi, Pb und Ag stören stark und verursachen negative bzw. im Falle Pb und Ag positive Fehler.

     

PRESENTATIONS: FROM KAC-MOODY GROUPS TO PROFINITE AND BACK

We go back and forth between, on the one hand, presentations of arithmetic and Kac-Moody groups and, on the other hand, presentations of profinite groups, deducing along the way new results on both.     

Embeddings of SL(2; ?) into the cremona group

Geometric and dynamic properties of embeddings of SL(2; ℤ) into the Cremona group are studied. Infinitely many nonconjugate embeddings that preserve the type (i.e., that send elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic elements onto elements of the same type) are provided. The existence of infinitely many nonconjugate elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic embeddings is also shown. In particular, a group G of automorphisms of a smooth surface S obtained by blowing up 10 points of the complex projective plane is given. The group G is isomorphic to SL(2; ℤ), preserves an elliptic curve and all its elements of infinite order are hyperbolic.
