Studies of two distinct classes of chromium(III) cage complexes are discussed. The first are compact oxo- and carboxylate cages, made by heating precursors to high temperature under a flow of nitrogen. One of these cages, [Cr12O9(OH)3(O2CCMe3)15], has an S = 6 spin ground state which proves a very interesting subject for study by EPR and MCD spectroscopy. Use of other carboxylates leads to other octa- and dodeca-nuclear complexes. The second class of compounds are homo- and hetero-metallic wheels and chains bridged by fluoride and carboxylates. These include the first heterometallic anti-ferromagnetically coupled ring systems and are being widely studied in areas as diverse as magnetic cooling and quantum information processing. The mechanism by which these unusual cyclic and acyclic structures form is discussed.  相似文献

Two polymetallic iron(III) complexes 1 and 2 have been synthesised from the known corrosion inhibitor 3-(4-methylbenzoyl)-propionic acid HL1 and their crystal structures determined. Coordination geometries extracted from these structures have been used as the basis for molecular modelling onto idealised iron(III) oxide surfaces as an aid to understanding the efficacy of inhibitors of the 4-keto acid type. The proposed mode of action involves 1,3-bridging didentate coordination of the carboxylate function of L1 to two FeIII ions, hydrogen-bond formation between the 4-keto group of L1 and a bridging surface hydroxy group, as well as close packing of the aromatic end groups, which should generate a hydrophobic barrier on the surface. Adsorption isotherm experiments have been used to compare the strengths of binding of related carboxylic acids onto iron(III) oxide surfaces and indicate that the presence of the 4-keto function leads to the formation of significantly more stable surface complexes.  相似文献

[Ru2Mn(O)(O2CtBu)6(py)3] has an S=5/2 ground state with a very large zero‐field splitting (ZFS) of D=2.9 cm?1, as characterized by EPR spectroscopy at 4–330 GHz. This is far too large to be due to the MnII ion (D <0.2 cm?1), as shown from the {Fe2Mn} analogue, but can be modeled by antisymmetric exchange effects.  相似文献

The dicarbollide ion, nido-C2B9H112− is isoelectronic with cyclopentadienyl. Herein, we make dysprosiacarboranes, namely [(C2B9H11)2Ln(THF)2][Na(THF)5] (Ln=Dy, 1Dy ) and [(THF)3(μ-H)3Li]2[{η5-C6H4(CH2)2C2B9H9}Dy{η25-C6H4(CH2)2C2B9H9}2Li] 3Dy and show that dicarbollide ligands impose strong magnetic axiality on the central DyIII ion. The effective energy barrier (Ueff) for the loss of magnetization can be varied by the substitution pattern on the dicarbollide. This finding is demonstrated by comparing complexes of nido-C2B9H112− and nido-[o-xylylene-C2B9H9]2−, which show a Ueff of 430(5) K and 804(7) K, respectively. The blocking temperature defined by the open hysteresis temperature of 3Dy reaches 6.8 K. Moreover, the linear complex [Dy(C2B9H11)2] is predicted to have comparable properties with the linear [Dy(CpMe3)2]+ complex. As such, carboranyl ligands and their derivatives may provide a new type of organometallic ligand for high-performance single-molecule magnets.  相似文献

A new family of five-coordinate lanthanide single-molecule magnets (Ln SMMs) [Dy(Mes*O)2(THF)2X] (Mes*=2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenyl; X=Cl, 1 ; Br, 2 ; I, 3 ) is reported with energy barriers to magnetic reversal >1200 K. The five-coordinate DyIII ions have distorted square pyramidal geometries, with halide anions on the apex, and two Mes*O ligands mutually trans- to each other, and the two THF molecules forming the second trans- pair. These geometrical features lead to a large magnetic anisotropy in these complexes along the trans-Mes*O direction. QTM and Raman relaxation times are enhanced by varying the apex halide from Cl to Br to I, or by dilution in a diamagnetic yttrium analogue.  相似文献

In this paper we extend the plane blow-up results of Grundy& McLaughlin (1997) to the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations.Using a solution structure originally due to Lin we first providenumerical evidence for the existence of blow-up solutions on- < x, z < , 0 y 1 with boundary conditions on y = 0and y = 1 involving derivatives of the velocity components.The formulation enables us to consider plane and radial flowas special cases. Various features of the computations are isolatedand are used to construct a formal asymptotic solution closeto blow-up. We show that the numerical and asymptotic analysesprovide a mutually consistent global picture which supportsthe conclusion that, for the family of problems we considerhere, blow-up in fact can take place in three dimensions butat an inverse linear rate rather than the faster inverse squareof the plane case.  相似文献
