One of the principal uses of supersulfated cement has been for structures exposed to sea water and sulfate bearing ground waters. The resistance to such environments has been related to the absence of calcium hydroxide and the combination of much of the free alumina into ettringite during hydration. This paper reports the resistance of SSC to sulfate solutions in which ettringite has been decomposed. Prism samples were subjected to initial water storage at 25°C for both 28 days and 6 months. Samples were also cured for 6 months at 95°C and at both 11% and 100% R.H. The control samples of 28 days were compared with the 6 months samples of a more mature undecomposed SSC paste. After curing the prisms were measured and all the samples were immersed in three sulfate solutions (0.7M Na2SO4 , 0.7M MgSO4 and saturated CaSO4), and water at the same time. Measurements of linear expansion over 6 months were carried out. Core and surface material following immersion was examined by DTG and XRD. The study indicated that SSC is resistant to sodium and calcium sulfate solutions. Strong magnesium sulfate solutions decomposed the samples under all conditions. A possible mechanism for this attack is suggested. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The effect of sample mass, heating rate and partial pressure of carbon dioxide on TG, DTG and DTA curves for the decomposition of some common carbonates has been investigated. These variables gave a marked effect, similar in magnitude for both DTG and DTA. The effect of sample mass, or depth of undiluted sample, is shown to be due to an increase in the partial pressure of carbon dioxide within the reacting powder. This effect is most pronounced in nitrogen but is much reduced in carbon dioxide. Inert diluents have little effect on the curves since they do not increase the partial pressure of CO2. The first stage of the decomposition of dolomite (CaMg(CO3)2) varies with increasing partial pressure of carbon dioxide in an anomalous manner and hence the effects of these procedural variables (except heating rate) are not similar to those observed for magnesite (MgCO3) and calcite (CaCO3). The second stage is, however, strongly dependent on these variables and behaves in a manner that would be predicted for a sample of calcite diluted with magnesite.  相似文献

We compare the response function of an Unruh-DeWitt detector for different space-times and different vacua and show that there is a detailed violation of the equivalence principle. In particular comparing the response of an accelerating detector to a detector at rest in a Schwarzschild space-time we find that both detectors register thermal radiation, but for a given, equivalent acceleration the fixed detector in the Schwarzschild space-time measures a higher temperature. This allows one to locally distinguish the two cases. As one approaches the horizon the two temperatures have the same limit so that the equivalence principle is restored at the horizon.  相似文献

The goal of this study was to determine the expected normal range of variation in spin-lattice relaxation time (T1) of brain tissue in vivo, as a function of age. A previously validated precise and accurate inversion recovery method was used to map T1 transversely, at the level of the basal ganglia, in a study population of 115 healthy subjects (ages 4 to 72; 57 male and 58 female). Least-squares regression analysis shows that T1 varied as a function of age in pulvinar nucleus (R2 = 56%), anterior thalamus (R2 = 51%), caudate (R2 = 50%), frontal white matter (R2 = 47%), optic radiation (R2 = 39%), putamen (R2 = 36%), genu (R2 = 22%), occipital white matter (R2 = 20%) (all p < 0.0001), and cortical gray matter (R2 = 53%) (p < 0.001). There were no significant differences in T1 between men and women. T1 declines throughout adolescence and early adulthood, to achieve a minimum value in the fourth to sixth decade of life, then T1 begins to increase. Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging provides evidence that brain tissue continues to change throughout the lifespan among healthy subjects with no neurologic deficits. Age-related changes follow a strikingly different schedule in different brain tissues; white matter tracts tend to reach a minimum T1 value, and to increase again, sooner than do gray matter tracts. Such normative data may prove useful for the early detection of brain pathology in patients.  相似文献

Micron and submicron platinum electrodes with hydrophobically‐modified shrouds have been prepared. The steady state response to a number of electrochemical species have been evaluated with respect to the shroud coating. For submicron electrodes deviations in response were observed based on the shroud modification. These effects were not observed in larger electrodes, and may be due to the so‐called “edge effect” for small diameter electrodes.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to use objective quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods to develop a computer-aided detection (CAD) tool to differentiate white matter (WM) hyperintensities into either leukoencephalopathy (LE) induced by chemotherapy or normal maturational processes in children treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia without irradiation. A combined MRI set consisting of T1-weighted, T2-weighted, proton-density-weighted and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery images and WM, gray matter and cerebrospinal fluid proportional volume maps from a spatially normalized atlas were analyzed with a neural network segmentation based on a Kohonen self-organizing map (SOM). Segmented maps were manually classified to identify the most hyperintense WM region and the normal-appearing genu region. Signal intensity differences normalized to the genu within each examination were generated for four time points in 228 children. A second Kohonen SOM was trained on the first examination data and divided the WM into normal-appearing or LE groups. Reviewing labels from the CAD tool revealed a consistency measure of 89.8% (167 of 186) within patients. The overall agreement between the CAD tool and the consensus reading of two trained observers was 84.1% (535 of 636), with 84.2% (170 of 202) agreement in the training set and 84.1% (365 of 434) agreement in the testing set. These results suggest that subtle therapy-induced LE can be objectively and reproducibly detected in children treated for cancer using this CAD approach based on relative differences in quantitative signal intensity measures normalized within each examination.  相似文献

Oxygen-alkyl cleavage is ruled out in the methane chemical ionization- and electron mpact-induced decomposition of cyclopropyl ethers by the finding that for trans,trans-2,3-diethylmethoxycyclopropane the [M ? C2H5·]+ ion is more intense than the [M ? CH3·]+ ion. The possibility for [M + H ? C2H6]+ is discounted by comparison with the methane chemical ionization nass spectrum of tran,tran-2,3-dimethylmethoxycyclopropane. The isobutane chemical ionization nass spectrum of the diethylcyclopropyl methyl ether affords nearly exclusive electrocyclic methanol fragmentation, i.e. [M + H ? CH3OH]+.  相似文献

Voltage-gated biological ion channels were simulated by insertion of the peptaibol antibiotic alamethicin into reconstituted phosphatidylcholine bilayer lipid membranes (BLMs). Scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) was utilized to probe initial BLM resistivity, the insertion of alamethicin pores, and mass transport across the membrane. Acquired SECM images show the spatial location of inserted pore bundles, the verification of voltage control over the pore conformational state (open/closed), and variations in passive mass transport corresponding to different topographical areas of the BLM. SECM images were also used to evaluate overall BLM integrity prior to insertion as well as transport (flux in open state) and leakage (flux in closed state) currents following insertion.  相似文献
