Multiple strategies to overcome the intrinsic limitations of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) have been proposed by numerous research groups. Despite the substantial efforts, the driving force required for water oxidation is largely making the reaction inefficient. In the present work, we collected published studies involving DFT calculations for the OER, with the purpose to understand why the progress made so far, for lowering the overpotential of the reaction, is relatively small. The data revealed that the universal scaling relationship between HO* and HOO* intermediates is still present and robust, despite the variety in methods and structures used for calculating the binding energies of the intermediates. On the other hand, the data did not show a clear trend line regarding the O* binding. Our analysis suggested that trends in doped semiconducting oxides behave very differently from those in other oxides. This points towards a computational challenge in describing doped oxides in a realistic manner. We propose a way to overcome these computational challenges, which can be applied to simulations corresponding to doped semiconductors in general.

A squarate-based synthesis of 2-ferrocenylidene-4-cyclopentene-1,3-diones is described. When refluxed in dioxane at 100 °C, heated with silica gel as a solvent free grinded solid mixture at 125 °C or stirred with silica gel in ethyl acetate at room temperature, 4-ferrocenylethynyl-4-hydroxy-2-cyclobutenones, prepared from ethynylferrocene and 3-cyclobutene-1,2-diones, afforded 2-ferrocenylidene-4-cyclopentene-1,3-diones as the major or single product of the reaction. In some cases, ferrocenyl quinones also resulted from these reactions as the minor products. The major or exclusive formation of 2-ferrocenylidene-4-cyclopentene-1,3-diones is attributed to the radical-stabilizing ability of the ferrocenyl group.  相似文献

The main aim of this paper is to contribute to the construction of Green’s functions for initial boundary value problems for fourth order partial differential equations. In this paper, we consider a transversely vibrating homogeneous semi-infinite beam with classical boundary conditions such as pinned, sliding, clamped or with a non-classical boundary conditions such as dampers. This problem is of important interest in the context of the foundation of exact solutions for semi-infinite beams with boundary damping. The Green’s functions are explicitly given by using the method of Laplace transforms. The analytical results are validated by references and numerical methods. It is shown how the general solution for a semi-infinite beam equation with boundary damping can be constructed by the Green’s function method, and how damping properties can be obtained.  相似文献

The photodynamic therapy of cancer is contingent upon the sustained generation of singlet oxygen in the tumor region. However, tumors of the most metastatic cancer types develop a region of severe hypoxia, which puts them beyond the reach of most therapeutic protocols. More troublesome, photodynamic action generates acute hypoxia as the process itself diminishes cellular oxygen reserves, which makes it a self‐limiting method. Herein, we describe a new concept that could eventually lead to a change in the 100 year old paradigm of photodynamic therapy and potentially offer solutions to some of the lingering problems. When gold nanorods with tethered endoperoxides are irradiated at 808 nm, the endoperoxides undergo thermal cycloreversion, resulting in the generation of singlet oxygen. We demonstrate that the amount of singlet oxygen produced in this way is sufficient for triggering apoptosis in cell cultures.  相似文献

Establishing a molecular-level understanding of enantioselectivity and chiral resolution at the organic-inorganic interfaces is a key challenge in the field of heterogeneous catalysis. As a model system, we investigate the adsorption geometry of serine on Cu{110} using a combination of low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy. The chirality of enantiopure chemisorbed layers, where serine is in its deprotonated (anionic) state, is expressed at three levels: (i) the molecules form dimers whose orientation with respect to the substrate depends on the molecular chirality, (ii) dimers of L- and D-enantiomers aggregate into superstructures with chiral (-1 ?2; 4 0) lattices, respectively, which are mirror images of each other, and (iii) small islands have elongated shapes with the dominant direction depending on the chirality of the molecules. Dimer and superlattice formation can be explained in terms of intra- and interdimer bonds involving carboxylate, amino, and β-OH groups. The stability of the layers increases with the size of ordered islands. In racemic mixtures, we observe chiral resolution into small ordered enantiopure islands, which appears to be driven by the formation of homochiral dimer subunits and the directionality of interdimer hydrogen bonds. These islands show the same enantiospecific elongated shapes those as in low-coverage enantiopure layers.  相似文献

In our study, the single‐use & eco‐friendly electrochemical sensor platform based on herbal silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was developed for detection of mercury (II) ion (Hg2+). For this purpose, the surface of pencil graphite electrode (PGE) was modified with AgNPs and folic acid (FA), respectively. The concentrations of AgNPs and FA were firstly optimized by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) to obtain an effective surface modification of PGE. Each step at the surface modification process was characterized by using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedence spectroscopy (EIS). The limit of detection (LOD) for Hg2+ was estimated and found to be 8.43 μM by CV technique. The sensor presented an excellent selectivity for Hg2+ against to other heavy metal ions such as Ca2+, Cd2+, Cr3+, Cu2+, Mg2+, Ni2+, Pb2+, Zn2+, Co2+ and Mn2+. Moreover, a rapid, selective and sensitive detection of Hg2+ was successfully performed in the samples of tap water within 1 min.  相似文献
