Influence of Preparation Conditions on Properties of a Copper-Containing Catalyst for Electrocatalytic Oxidation of Acetone

Stages of synthesis of a copper-containing catalyst for electrocatalytic oxidation of acetone in waste gases were studied. The course of the extrusion and calcination and their influence on electrocatalytic oxidation of acetone on the catalyst synthesized were analyzed.

A first <Emphasis Type="Italic">P,N</Emphasis>-bidentate phosphite with a chiral ketimine fragment. Catalytic properties of its Rh<Superscript>I</Superscript> and Pd<Superscript>II</Superscript> complexes in comparison with those of phosphine analogs

A chiral P,N-bidentate aryl phosphite ligand containing peripheral (R)-(+)-camphor-derived ketimine and its rhodium(I) and palladium(II) chelate complexes were synthesized for the first time. These compounds were found to be suitable for asymmetric allylic substitution. The Pd-catalyzed sulfonylation of 1,3-diphenylallyl acetate with sodium p-toluenesulfinate gave the product in 73% ee; in the alkylation of the same substrate with dimethyl malonate, the ee was 94%. These ee values are higher than the enantioselectivity achieved with the known phosphine analogs.Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. Analysis of Different Contributions into the Magnetooptical Signal of Magnetophotonic Crystal Type Three-Dimensional Structures

Interference of effects of different levels and magnitudes in producing a net magnetooptical response was considered for the first time in structures similar to magnetophotonic crystals at different wavelengths of the incident irradiation in regions far from plasmon resonances. Contributions of interference and diffraction phenomena in maxima of different orders in three-dimensional systems of the magnetophotonic crystal type were studied. Use of the integral response in the analysis of the magnetooptical effects was shown to lead to disappearing of the interference phenomena. The zero-order diffraction maximum reflects adequately the magnetic component of the magnetooptical response. Numerical estimates of the observed diffraction and interference effects are reported.     

Study of the charge distribution of galactic cosmic rays and search for superheavy nuclei traces in olivine crystals from meteorites

The search for and identification of energetic nuclei of superheavy elements of cosmic rays in olivine crystals frommeteorites, currently performedwithin the Olympia project [1], are based on measurements of dynamic and geometrical parameters of tracks, i.e., chemically etchable regions of the traces of slowing down of these nuclei before their stop, using the fully automated PAVIKOM measuring system [2].     

Kinetics of chromium(VI) adsorption from model solutions on iron oxide

Adsorption of Cr(VI) on Fe₂O₃ from model solutions with various Cr(VI) concentrations was studied. The adsorption capacity was determined, the constants of chromium(VI) adsorption on iron(III) oxide for the pseudo-second-order model were calculated, and the diffusion coefficients for the process were evaluated.     

Comparison of finite-dimensional reductions in smooth variational problems with symmetries
