A series of redox-responsive ligands that associate the electroactive tetrathiafulvalene core with polyether subunits of various lengths has been synthesized. X-ray structures are provided for each of the free ligands. The requisite structural criteria for reaching switchable ligands are satisfied for the largest macrocycles, that is, planarity of the 1,1',3,3'-tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) pi system and correctly oriented coordinating atoms. The ability of these ligands to recognize various metal cations as a function of the cavity size has been investigated by various techniques (LSIMS, 1H NMR, and UV/Vis spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry). These systems exhibit an unprecedented high coordination ability among TTF crown ethers. Their switchable ligating properties have been confirmed by cyclic voltammetry, and metal-cation complexation has been illustrated by X-ray structures of three of the corresponding metal complexes (Pb2+, Sr2+, and Ba2+). Solid-state structures of these complexes display original packing modes with channel-like arrangements.  相似文献

The three main types of hydroxyl groups on a silica surface are classified as isolated, hydrogen bonded, and inaccessible. The isolated and hydrogen bonded groups are the most important as these readily exchange with D(2)O and thus are exposed to reactant molecules. However, it has generally been accepted that the inaccessible groups do not participate in surface reactions as only a small fraction of these groups exchange with D(2)O. It is shown that the inaccessible hydroxyl groups on nonporous fumed silica and mesoporous MCM-48 silica powders and films fully exchange with D(2)O and are reactive with octadecylydimethylchlorosilane when supercritical CO(2) is used as the solvent. Furthermore, it is found that the CO(2) penetrating the regions containing the inaccessible groups is not removed by simple evacuation but rather slowly diffuses from the silica over periods of months.  相似文献

Polyethylene encased porous poly(chloromethylstyrene-co-divinylbenzene) disks have been prepared by polymerization in a cylindrical glass mold and cut to a disk format. Following attachment of a free radical azo initiator 4,4'-azobis(4-cyanovaleric acid) to available functionalities at the surface of the pores, the polymerization of 2-vinyl-4,4-dimethylazlactone was initiated from the surface. To avoid an undesirable increase in flow resistance and to improve the yield of grafting, divinylbenzene was added to the polymerization mixture in order to form a layer of swellable reactive polymer gel within the pores. The use of these disks as scavenging filters to remove various amines from solutions in flow-through operations was demonstrated by effective removal of amines in a very short period of time from their solutions in a variety of solvents, even including alcohols and water.  相似文献

Changes in the structure of a surfactant adsorbed on oxidized silicon arising from interaction with a polyelectrolyte have been studied using polarized infrared attenuated total reflection spectroscopy. Specifically, the cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) was found to form a highly ordered layer on oxidized silicon at a concentration of 5.5 x 10(-5) M and a pH of 9.6. Addition of a solution of the anionic polyelectrolyte poly(styrenesulfonate) to the ordered CTAB layer resulted in a rapid and dramatic decrease in the surface excess of CTAB. Interestingly however, the interfacial order of the residual surfactant was retained for a time period greater than 1 h, before decreasing. Reintroduction of a surfactant solution prior to destabilization of the residual interfacial CTAB resulted in the readsorption of the surfactant, the recovery of the initial equilibrium coverage, and the maintenance of an ordered CTAB conformation. This desorption/readsorption process may be subsequently repeated without destroying the order of the CTAB on the surface. If however sufficient time is allowed for the residual interfacial surfactant to destabilize prior to readdition of CTAB, the degree of surfactant order remains low, despite the rapid reobtainment of a surface excess equal to or greater than that initially measured. These results are interpreted in terms of polymer/surfactant interfacial complexation and the removal of adsorbed surfactant into solution. The ordering behavior of the residual surfactant suggests that CTAB is left on the surface in isolated patches of highly ordered species that maintain their order until two-dimensional diffusion leads to a more homogeneous surfactant surface distribution and hence the loss of conformational order. The degree of orientation order assumed by surfactant readsorbing on a depleted surface appears to be templated by the order of the residual interfacial surfactant, suggestive of a two-dimensional epitaxial growth mechanism for CTAB readsorption.  相似文献

A thin film infrared technique is used to observe bands due to hydrogen-bonded and chemisorbed methoxymethylsilanes on fumed silica in the low-frequency region below 1300 cm(-1). The low-frequency region contains the characteristic bands due to Si-O-Si, Si-O, Si-C, Si-CH(3), and SiO-C modes. Band assignments are aided by ab initio calculations and comparison to thin film experiments of adsorbed chloromethylsilanes. The spectral interpretation was expected to be more complicated than that of the corresponding chlorosilanes because the strong SiO-C alkoxy bands lie in the same region as the Si-O-Si bands. However, the SiO-C bands are weak in intensity when participating in hydrogen-bonding interactions enabling easy detection of the Si-O-Si bands due to chemisorbed species. By combining the low-frequency data with the spectral information for the hydroxyl region, a clearer picture of the nature of the bonding to the surface is obtained. When adsorbed at room temperature, all methoxy groups participate in hydrogen bonding with the surface hydroxyl groups. When the reaction is performed at 150 degrees C, the silanes are chemisorbed via a Si-O-Si bond and the remaining methoxy groups of the chemisorbed species are hydrogen bonded to the surface hydroxyl groups. At reaction temperature of 400 degrees C there is no evidence of hydrogen bonding but the spectra are complicated by the reaction of methanol with the surface. Copyright 2000 Academic Press.  相似文献

Thioxolone acts as a prodrug in the presence of carbonic anhydrase II (CA II), whereby the molecule is cleaved by thioester hydrolysis to the carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, 4-mercaptobenzene-1,3-diol (TH0). Thioxolone was soaked into the proton transfer mutant H64A of CA II in an effort to capture a reaction intermediate via X-ray crystallography. Structure determination of the 1.2 ? resolution data revealed the TH0 had been modified to a 4,4'-disulfanediyldibenzene-1,3-diol, a product of crystallization conditions, and a zinc ligated 2,4-dihydroxybenzenesulfenic acid, most likely induced by radiation damage. Neither ligand was likely a result of an enzymatic mechanism.  相似文献
