Bottom-quark production in &pmacr;p collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV is studied with 5 pb(-1) of data collected in 1995 by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The differential production cross section for b jets in the central rapidity region ( | y(b)|<1) as a function of jet transverse energy is extracted from a muon-tagged jet sample. Within experimental and theoretical uncertainties, D0 results are found to be higher than, but compatible with, next-to-leading-order QCD predictions.  相似文献

The D0 collaboration has performed a study of spin correlation in t&tmacr; production for the process t&tmacr;-->bW(+)&bmacr;W-, where the W bosons decay to enu or &mgr;nu. A sample of six events was collected during an exposure of the D0 detector to an integrated luminosity of approximately 125 pb(-1) of sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV p&pmacr; collisions. The standard model (SM) predicts that the short lifetime of the top quark ensures the transmission of any spin information at production to the t&tmacr; decay products. The degree of spin correlation is characterized by a correlation coefficient kappa. We find that kappa>-0.25 at the 68% confidence level, in agreement with the SM prediction of kappa = 0.88.  相似文献

The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has developed an extensive quality assurance program to provide high quality data and assessments in support of the Marshall Islands Dose Assessment and Radioecology Program. Our quality assurance objectives begin with the premise of providing integrated and cost-effective program support (to meet wide-ranging programmatic needs, scientific peer review, and build public confidence) and continue through from design and implementation of large-scale field programs, sampling and sample preparation, radiometric and chemical analyses, documentation of quality assurance/quality control practices, exposure assessments, and dose/risk assessments until publication. The basic structure of our radioassay quality assurance/quality control program can be divided into four essential elements: (1) sample and data integrity control, (2) instrument validation and calibration, (3) method performance testing, validation, development and documentation, and (4) periodic peer review and on-site assessments. While our quality assurance objectives are tailored towards a single research program and the evaluation of major exposure pathways/critical radionuclides pertinent to the Marshall Islands, we have attempted to develop quality assurance practices that are consistent with proposed criteria designed for laboratory accreditation.  相似文献

An integral equation formulation for buoyancy-driven convection problems is developed and illustrated. Buoyancy-driven convection in a bounded cylindrical geometry with a free surface is studied for a range of aspect ratios and Nusselt numbers. The critical Rayleigh number, the nature of the cellular motion, and the heat transfer enhancement are computed using linear theory. Green's functions are used to convert the linear problem into linear Fredholm integral equations. Theorems are proved which establish the properties of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the linear integral operator which appears in these equations.  相似文献

We search for hadronic decays of a light Higgs boson (A(0)) produced in radiative decays of an Υ(2S) or Υ(3S) meson, Υ→γA(0). The data have been recorded by the BABAR experiment at the Υ(3S) and Υ(2S) center-of-mass energies and include (121.3±1.2)×10(6) Υ(3S) and (98.3±0.9)×10(6) Υ(2S) mesons. No significant signal is observed. We set 90% confidence level upper limits on the product branching fractions B(Υ(nS)→γA(0))B(A(0)→hadrons) (n=2 or 3) that range from 1×10(-6) for an A(0) mass of 0.3 GeV/c(2) to 8×10(-5) at 7 GeV/c(2).  相似文献

We present a search for f(J)(2220) production in radiative J/ψ→γf(J)(2220) decays using 460 fb?1 of data collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e(+)e? collider. The f(J)(2220) is searched for in the decays to K(+)K? and K(S)?K(S)?. No evidence of this resonance is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the product of the branching fractions for J/ψ→γf(J)(2220) and f(J)(2220)→K(+)K?(K(S)?K(S)?) as a function of spin and helicity are set at the level of 10??, below the central values reported by the Mark III experiment.  相似文献
