An Unusual Ring‐Contraction/Rearrangement Sequence for Making Functionalized Di‐ and Triquinanes

A novel ring contraction/rearrangement sequence leading to functionalized 2,8‐oxymethano‐bridged di‐ and triquinane compounds is observed in the reaction of various substituted 1‐methyl‐4‐isopropenyl‐6‐oxabicylo[3.2.1]octan‐8‐ones with Lewis acids. The reaction is novel and is unprecedented for the synthesis of di‐ and triquinane frameworks.     

Influence of catalyst binder on the acidity and activity/selectivity of Ga/H-ZSM-5 zeolite in propane aromatization

The acidity and initial and time-on-stream activity in propane aromatization (at 550°C, space velocity of 3100 cm³g⁻¹ _(zeolite)h⁻¹) of Ga-impregnated H-ZSM-5 zeolite without or with binders (50 wt%), such as silica, alumina and kaolin, have been investigated. Both the acidity and catalytic activity of the zeolite are influenced by the presence of binder in the catalyst, depending upon the binder. The influence is found to be lowest for alumina and highest for kaolin. Among the binders, alumina is the most preferred binder for the zeolite catalyst.     

Weyl group multiple Dirichlet series constructed from quadratic characters

We construct multiple Dirichlet series in several complex variables whose coefficients involve quadratic residue symbols. The series are shown to have an analytic continuation and satisfy a certain group of functional equations. These are the first examples of an infinite collection of unstable Weyl group multiple Dirichlet series in greater than two variables having the properties predicted in [2].     

The first example of direct oxidation of sulfides to sulfones by an osmate molecular oxygen system

Osmate-exchanged Mg-Al layered double hydroxides catalysed the delivery of two oxygen atoms simultaneously via a 3 + 1 cycloaddition to sulfide to form sulfone directly for the first time, reminiscent of 3 + 2 cycloaddition in asymmetric dihydroxylation reactions.     

Unitary periods,Hermitian forms and points on flag varieties

Calix[4]arene-based 1,3-diconjugate of salicylyl imine having dibenzyl amine moiety (L): synthesis, characterization, receptor properties toward Fe2+, Cu2+, and Zn2+, crystal structures of its Zn2+ and Cu2+ complexes, and selective phosphate sensing by the [ZnL

A calix[4]arene conjugate bearing salicylyl imine having dibenzyl moiety (L) has been synthesized and characterized, and its ability to recognize three most important essential elements of human system, viz., iron, copper, and zinc, has been addressed by colorimetry and fluorescence techniques. L acts as a sensor for Cu(2+) and Fe(2+) by exhibiting visual color change and for Zn(2+) based on fluorescence spectroscopy. L shows a minimum detection limit of 3.96 ± 0.42 and 4.51 ± 0.53 ppm and 45 ± 4 ppb, respectively, toward Fe(2+), Cu(2+), and Zn(2+). The in situ prepared [ZnL] exhibits phosphate sensing among 14 anions studied with a detection limit of 247 ± 25 ppb. The complexes of Zn(2+), Cu(2+), and Fe(2+) of L have been synthesized and characterized by different techniques. The crystalline nature of the zinc and copper complexes and the noncrystalline nature of simple L and its iron complex have been demonstrated by powder XRD. The structures of Cu(2+) and Zn(2+) complexes have been established by single crystal XRD wherein these were found to be 1:1 monomeric and 2:2 dimeric, respectively, using N(2)O(2) as binding core. The geometries exhibited by the Zn(2+) and the Cu(2+) complexes were found to be distorted tetrahedral and distorted square planar, respectively. The iron complex of L exists in 1:1 stoichiometry as evident from the mass spectrometry and elemental analysis.
