On the Donor Ability of the Phosphaneiminato Substituent and Cube Formation with Transition Metal Fragments

The particular role of the phosphaneiminato ligand as a donor is investigated for a) nitrenes (phosphinidenes) and carbenes and b) cubane formation with transition metals. Accordingly, and as shown for the case a) the ligand is a stronger π‐donor than an amino group and can be considered as a special case of imine‐type substituents. The latter are very effective in π‐donation. In the case b), i.e. the cubane formation with transition metals, one has to consider transition metals with a partially or completely filled d‐shell (with electrons). Hence depending on the transition metal, cubanes are build with weak ferromagnetic coupled or closed shell systems. For the cubanes with closed shell character the matter of insertion of halide anions is discussed. In the last chapter of the review the bond stretching in the dithionitrosyl complexes with rhenium is characterized.

A new quantum statistical evaluation method for time correlation functions

Considering a system ofN identical interacting particles, which obey Fermi-Dirac or Bose-Einstein statistics, we derive new formulas for correlation functions of the type (whereB _j is diagonal in the free-particle states) in the thermodynamic limit. Thereby we apply and extend a superoperator formalism, recently developed for the derivation of long-time tails in semiclassical systems. As an illustrative application, the Boltzmann equation value of the time-integrated correlation functionC(t) is derived in a straightforward manner. Due to exchange effects, the obtained t-matrix and the resulting scattering cross section, which occurs in the Boltzmann collision operator, are now functionals of the Fermi-Dirac or Bose-Einstein distribution.

Cyclic and linear analogues of N2O. Theoretical evaluation of bonding properties

Various ABC (A, B=N, P; C=O, S) structures with 16 valence clectrons in a linear and cyclic geometry, together with the corresponding transition states for interconversion, are evaluated by means of quantum chemical calculations at an ab initio double-ζ level and with inclusion of electron correlation treatment. The stability of cyclic structures comes to the fore with increasing substitution of the ABC systems by third row elements. Hence in contrast to N₂O its higher element congener P₂S is more stable in a cyclic structure rather than a linear arrangement of atoms. In the linear ABC systems where either A or B is constituted from the third row of the periodic table of elements, the heavier element is always terminal rather than than central. This effect and the preference for cyclic rather than linear structures is the consequence oforbital nonhybridization as outlined in a previous publication.     

Encapsulated guest molecules in the dimer of octahydroxypyridine[4]arene

Recently a new type of calix[4]arenes has been synthesized via condensation of 2,6-dihydroxypyridine and a number of aldehydes. This type of pyridine[4]arenes forms capsules consisting of two single pyridine[4]arenes. These capsules can incorporate different guest molecules, like carboxylic acids and amides in this case. We proved that the guest acids really are incorporated inside the cavity of the capsules by electrospray mass spectrometry, NMR spectroscopy, and theoretical calculations.
